Photoshop :: Fixing Semi-transparency?
Jan 4, 2005
I have a layer in a photoshop file that is semi-transparent, and want to make it opaque.
It hasn't got a layer mask, it isn't just a normal layer with the opacity slider down, I just accidentally used the eraser tool on it with a low opacity and didn't notice until it was too late.

I tried searching things like "semi-transparency" and "clone stamp", but was unable to turn up any search results relevant.
Essentially, the problem is that I have a semi-transparent image, and I need to clone some of that image and graft it onto the same image. Unfortunately, when I use the clone stamp, it doesn't seem to properly copy the transparency.
Here is the image in question: [URL] ...........
(Actually, this isn't the REAL image in question - the real image is actually a .dds file, a texture - an inventory screen in particular - for a game I'm trying to edit. Not sure if that makes a difference.)
As you can see, (most of) the (insides of the) boxes are semi-transparent. What I'm trying to do is somewhat extend the very bottom left box to be exactly 33% wider, and also somewhat extend the very bottom right box, (how much, haven't figured out). Those are where items would normally be located, but unfortunately, they are sometimes not big enough for a particular item or particular amount of items that I'm trying to fit in them and they both need to be a little bit longer. However, I am no artist. What I thought I'd try to do was use the clone stamp on them to simply extend them, (and cover up any obvious duplication). But when I attempt to use the clone stamp, all the transparency goes away and I'm left with solid colors, which is not good. I tried using Photoshop to do this, but Photoshop has no official support for texture files and the available plugin for them does not handle transparency correctly and screws up the entire thing as well, even if it looks correct while editing it. I also tried using GIMP, but GIMP doesn't...do something correctly, (what's wrong, I can't remember - doesn't matter). Paint.net displays exactly what you see in game, but unfortunately I can't figure out how to use the proper tools to actually edit it to my needs.

My mother has a picture of herself with singer Ed Ames that was taken quite a long time ago. The problem is, the lighting was horrible at the airport they were at and the picture turned out pretty bad. I'm no expert in Photoshop, but I do know my way around it pretty well- the problem is I don't know if there is any hope to bring out features in Ed's face.
This picture might be a lost cause, but if any of you think you know how to make the picture better,

I have attached a section of a picture that I am currently working on. I have been trying to get rid of some green and red pixels that are all over the picture. You can better see them in the hair and neck area.
The original file has a decent size and is 300dpi.
I have been trying to use the clone tool, paint over the hair but it just doesn´t look right.

I just scanned a transparency in my EPSON 2450. It came out with some curves like a rainbow, I don't know how it is called. Is there any way to remove that without affecting the texture of the photograph? (these curves show over a piece of fabric and I really wanna keep the texture of the fabric).

I've got are some scans of some drawings I've made and I'd like to get rid of a few blemishes. First of all, a few of them have some really ugly creases where they've been folded. How can I get rid of those? Second, some of them were too big to scan all at once and I had to connect several scans together in one JPEG. The borders between them are obvious and I'd like to know how to smooth them over so it's not so obvious that the whole was put together with several pieces.

I took a new Canon DSLR camera on a family trip to Africa and managed to take some very blurry photographs in the Kruger National Park. I understand that there is an "Unblur" feature available in one of the Adobe products but have been unable to find out if it is in Photoshop or Lightshop and which version.

Is this even fixable? I have been trying to fix my dogs yellow eye look. I can not figure it out because the whole eye turned yellow in the photo not just the pupil. (He always looks so serious...he's a big clown lol.) Sooo... I have included some other pictures of what his actual eye color is.

I have some photos I took at a car show. Unfortunately, the event was held in a garage under horrible lighting. It gave everything a yellow-orange cast. What is the best way to remove or shift the color cast to more natural light. I tried Channel Mixer to some good effect. I have attached a sample image. I realize it may be hard to recover anything, but I'm just interesting in the technique.
Note in the image, there is almost no blue. The Channel mixer allows "converting" some of the other light into blue. I'm I on the right track?

The plans have reference grids that are

Is there an easy way to correct?

I have a photo in RAW format, shot with a flash where the photo is properly exposed except for the face on the subject. It is badly overexposed. Any tips on correcting exposure in just that area? I think I understand the general steps - mask and correct, but would like any tips since this is the first time I'm doing such a thing. Usually, exposure correction for me involved the entire photo.

I recently got married and it was drizzeling the day of the wedding when we took the beach photos. My very favorite photo was one that had water spots on the lense of the camera, so in turn made the water spots on the digital photo.
I know photoshop well, but don't spend a lot of time retouching photos, so this isn't an area that I am super well versed in.
Do i just use the clone tool or the healing brush? I haven't used the healing brush very much or the bandaid tool? Are they similar to the clone tool?

I'm trying to clone out some words on a semi-transparent .png image. To be more specific, the words are 100% opaque white on a semi-transparent grey background. When I use the clone tool(opacity 100, hardness 100)Â and try to clone the semi-transparent background onto the white inscriptions, the cloned background seems to be more opaque and the words are slightly showing through. If I do it a couple times over on a single word (like I did with "BROWSING TIPS") than I manage to cover the word up completely but the grey looks even more opaque.

I need to manually crop thousands of pics and want to semi automate the process. I assumed i
could create an action with a stop (at which point i would do a manual crop, because each
image is different) and then continue with the saving. So i opened an image, started
recording, immediately inserted the stop, resumed recording and saved. But when i run
file>automate>batch the first image opens and the stop dialog appears (with my message) and
the options to continue or stop. At that point (at the stop) it does not allow me to
manually crop. Why not? If i press continue it saves and then opens the next image..... If i
press stop another dialog comes up asking to continue or stop, i still cannot manually crop
and pressing stop at this second box stops the entire batch process. How can i get the
action to stop at each image so i can manually crop and then continue with the save and open
the next one? I thought this is what the stop function was for. A quote from the manual;
"Actions can include stops that let you perform tasks that cannot be recorded (for example,
using a painting tool). Actions can also include modal controls that let you enter values in
a dialog box while playing an action."
Sure, except that as usual from adobe, you either have to be a rocket scientist or a mind
reader to figure out how to make it do what you want to do. Anyone know how to do this?

I've seen it used quite a bit on TV recently, particularly in history documentaries, where they've taken a picture (often an old image such as the bayeaux tapestry or an old painting) and sort of 'disassembled' it and added effects, to give a front-to-back semi-3D look, almost as though the figures and elements in the picture were flats in those old-fashioned toy theatres, or maybe a pop-up book.
I've had some experiments in achieving the look in PS, using things like drop-shadows, and slightly blurring foreground and background elements, but it never quite looks right; often there's some impression of depth but the 'space' isn't quite there.
