I am trying to reduce the Opacity of some white text so that it looks faded. However I want the background that this appears on to be black. The problem is that it changes to grey the lower the Opacity.
I understand that this is because of the black background but can not think how to get around the problem.
I'd like to have the border or edge of my picture gradually fade to white. What is he best way to do this. I tried to use a large airbrush with pressure at 50% and white paint. It's works but my hand is not too steady. Is there a more accurate way?

I often use the Selective Color und navigate between the Colors with CRTL+1 till 9. Now Adobe changed the Shortcuts to alt+3 (for RED) till alt+8 (for MAGENTA). Now my Question -how is the Shortcut for WHITE/GREY an BLACK?
I am using Elements 6.0. I want to fade my image to white on the right side of the image. That way I can add text there in the plain white space. I've seen several ways to do this, but none seem to work on 6.0. using 6.0 . I tried a few ways explained on higher versions but I can get it to work.

EDIT: Dunno, but the linking to the picture just seem to make a tiny thumbnail, copy paste the URL to see the bigger one.
As you can see, the overlap from grey to white when I use the gradient tool just suddenly breaks into a clean grey white border. I've never had this problem before. I have tried to see if I might use some wrong settings or color options, but I couldn't find anything.
My homepage is in the design phase and it contains a lot of grey colors, therefore this problem screws up my project!

Yesterday, I took a number of experimental shots (a red phone cord lying on a white background). The white background (an artists white canvas lying on the floor) was well lit from above using 5600K lights.
The shots were all taken using auto focus, auto exposure, etc and in the view finder everything appeared to be correct, but on later viewing the photos, the white background appears to be grey.
I have attached a sample image to show the grey colour.
especially when using the auto mode when taking the photos.
I am not concerned about the picture quality only the grey background and I did not undertake a WB as I thought that this was part of the auto mode when taking the photo. the shot was taken by half pressing the shutter release butto to ensure that everything was OK then continuing to fully press the button.
I see all kinds of effects / transitions for fade to/through black, but not white. (I'm sure there's some quick way to select a color or something, but I can't find it.)

After getting the hang of that, I figured I could try the same thing with a different image. But instead of opening up both images in different colors, both show up as the color of the first image. Both images are png files, the same file format that I used the first set of images for. I have not changed the size nor made anything transparent.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using gimp for awhile now and have had great success using itto retouch about a zillion scans of old family photographs. but other than then few things I need in order to do that (paintbrush, clone tool, rotate tool and crop) I am still largely ignorant of how to use gimp. (There's just so much functionality in there, and I'm sure that I don't even have any use for about 90% of it.)
Anyway, a relative just sent me an old old family photo that some nitwit,perhaps a generation or two ago, did some seriously violence to with a pair of scissors. To salvage this one and to make it look presentable I really need to be able to take the scan I have of it and crop it into a oval shape.(Yes, it is a portrait.)
So anyway, how do I do this? It isn't obviously. I already did manage to figure out how to make a selection of the exact size and shape (and location)of oval that I want, and I _did_ make a selection like that... at least I_thought_ that I did... but then when I did crop-to-selection I ended up with the picture cropped to a rectangular shape, where the rectangle in question is, quite apparently, the rectangle which only and exactly contained the oval that I had selected earlier.
I'm sort-of guessing that what I really want is gonna end up being another one of these things that ends up involving multiple layers... yes? I mean of course, what I _really_ want to end up with is an image that _is_ in fact a rectangle, but everything outside of my selected oval has to end up being painted total white (255).
This is a strictly B&W image, BTW... just like all really old family photographs everywhere. How to fade the edges of the oval slowly to white.

There is some text that has to disappear somewhere into the white, so I figured, I'm just gonna load in a white color source, lay it on top, and put it in front of the text in z space. But nope, the white doesn't match the background white. It looks grey. I tried to apply a CC, but that doesn't change anything.... I already restarted smoke, but that didn't fix it either.
What else can I do?

When I try and move my image out of the little grey and white checker board area I can't see the image and can't see my "flipped" portion of it.
How to I get the flipped image to show without that stupid freaking grey and white cheacker board showing up!!!!!

it is a logo. the logo is in black and the background is white.
When i insert and print it shows up alright but the parts that are supposed to be white print out as a light grey.
I've got some insulation that is colored white and no matter what white I use or alter the views still show grey. 2011 didn't have this problem as white-flat looked white on screen.

What do I need to do to get the final video that I exported to look exactly the same (in terms of color) when it's uploaded on YouTube? Strictly just the color, because I understand quality goes down when uploaded to YouTube.
when I am working on a large drawing and/or pasting as a block, all the grey lines (colour 8) turn to white. When I select a grey line, it flicks back to grey, but de-select, and it's white again.
If I toggle on hardware acceleration, the problem is fixed for a short while, and also if I turn it off, it is fixed for a short while, and also if I save, close and re-open it's good untill I paste a block....

I'm trying to remove the blitz shadow from head and body on a white/grey background, with the Lasso tool. The adjustments with Brightness/Contrast in the chosen area works like a charm, however I always get a nasty pixeled or whitelined boarder going constantly around the edited area; no matter if it boarders to a black area (shoulder) or a gray one (wall behind person).
I've tried to edit the primary/secondary color, with no luck. Any way to make this boarder "blend in" to the new brightness area - or to just remove it? The edited area is somewhat identical to the old background, so there is no natural reason to why it should be a constant boarder.
Or is it a better (and easy!) way to remove blitz shadow from a black and white picture?
can I alter the BACKGROUND COLOUR from the Grey to a lighter grey as in P/Shop Album 2.00 which is just what I want..I hate the darker colour as background..I have just purchased the Elements 11.

This works perfectly for quickly assessing brightness and contrast of pictures.
In pse 10 however I could not find any button to change the preset lightgrey background colour to darkgrey.
I try to use the color grey its always redish grey and never grey.
I tried changing my color settings from photoshop but it still wont work.
can simple fade into slow motion or fade out of the effect ?

Any object set to plot grey (any grey), that is in paper space, is plotting black only in one of my layouts. similar objects in model space and in both spaces on other layouts are all plotting accordingly.

So that when I place the final psd on top of a block of solid colour in Indesign the gradient shows the background colour through where the black fades off.
