Photoshop Elements :: How To Move Photos From Computer File Into Organizer
Dec 10, 2012
Photoshop Elements 10. After loading pictures into "my pictures" in windows I cannot move them into the Organizer. The raw files will not transfer despite adding the plug-in and now the jpg files from my latest batch will not move to the Organizer.
This should be an easy task and I am familiar with editing a photo taken from the organizer and then returning it to an album or folder. My problem is with a photo sent to me as an attachment to an email in another program (often Picasa). This photo can be opened in Elements Editor and worked with in the usual fashion but I am stumped on how to then move it in my Organizer and appropriate folder or album.
I have 2 hard disks in my computer. The c drive is getting crowded and I want to move my photo folder to the other disc (D:). How do I "tell" Organizer to point to the d drive instead of the C drive.
I have built an album of photos in Organizer and can follow the Share path to a photo book using the Shutterfly option as these photos appear in the photo bin and can be dropped in the book's pages. My question is - I would like to use Shutterfly's more extensive selections for this book (found on their website) and the first activity required is to "get" the photos. They are not easily found even though I look in my "My Pictures" library. and Shutterfly's website does not show Elements Organizer as a source for getting photos to add. (even though they appear as an option under the "Share" portion of Organizer.
I have switched my "mouse" over to the number keypad like it says to do for the touchpad computer. I go to tranform image size and the outline surrounding the photo only moves up/down or side-to-side. How do I get the outline to move at the corners so I can easily manipulate the size? Either way - FN, CTRL, Win or other buttons do nothing to enlarge photo to where I want to set it. How can I accomplish this - any experts on touchpad conversion to number keypads out there? This is Win8 with PSE11. I just want this computer to get up to par to do some photo editing.
I have a large image collection, in excess of 40,000. I'm running on a PC with Windows 7 and all updates installed. I just purchased PSE 11 to replace PSE 10. After installing PSE 11 I converted my catalog. That seemed to go OK. At that point I discovered that my C: drive was almost full so I decided to move my image collection from its C: drive location to an external hard drive that had sufficient capacity. In order to ensure the integrity of the catalog I decided that I should use the PSE 11 Organizer to move the files. This would allow the Organizer to update the location information for the files as it moved them, although it was clear that this would take many hours to complete. So, using Organizer I did a "drag and drop" of my image collection's root file from the C: location to the external drive which happened to be the J: drive. Organizer appeared to be running properly so I left it to continue overnight. The next morning I discovered that only about 2/3 of the files had been moved. There was a very cryptic message that said the opertion could not be completed because of "possibly unsupported files types, files with read only attributes.." etc. I did not write down the actual message and it did not tell me where in the transfer the failure occurred. After doing some detective work I discovered that many folders and files had been copied to the J: drive that were not appearing in the Organizer catalog and consequently were not being displayed. Some folders had only a portion of their files copied. Fortunately, the files were still visible and cataloged on the C: drive. I did look at my files on the C: drive and there were some that for what ever reason had read only attributes.
The selected file, files, or folders should be copied to the specified destination. At that point they should be added to the catalog, then the files should be deleted from their original location and the catalog updated accordingly. If an original file is read only then it can't be deleted but the attempt to delete it should be reported as an inability to delete with no consequences imposed on the files that have been placed in their new location. The "problem" should not be promoted to the status of a serious or fatal error that causes only partial completion of the overall operation.
I am upgrading from Photoshop Elements 9 to version 12 and loading it onto a new computer running Windows 8.2. To move the Organizer Catalog I have tried several time to create a backup on an external hard drive from version 9 so i can restore it on the new computer with the upgraded software. Each time i run the backup the process stops and displays an error message "Error encountered while writing files". This occurs when the process is approximately 75% complete. There are 12,326 items in the catalog, the estimated "media size" needed it 142,891.30 MB, i have 339 GB of free space on the external hard drive.
When opening my jpeg photos in Photoshop elements 9, once saved elements seems put the image in a format that my Apple Mac isn't compatible with. So when I then try and upload the images to Facebook or other software in a bulk upload the images are highlighted and I therefore can't select them and upload.
i was trying to make a photobook on shutterfly. the pictures were preparing and the computer froze. i had to shot it down. now my dorganizer doesnt open.
I've created a BIG catalogue with photos from various drives. And each time I've used "export" to copy the photos to an internal drive on a brand new computer with a huge drive.
I'd like the main catalogue to ALL refer to the files on the new huge drive?
My photos are OK in the Organizer, but the portrait photos are cut off at the top or bottom when used in a slide show. I have checked the "Crop to Fit" portrait selection but it makes no difference. I have Version 9 of Elements.
How do I move a slide show to a new or different computer? I prepared a slide show on a computer that apparently does not have the capacity to output it to a video. I don't want to have to completely reproduce it from scratch on a more powerful computer.
When I open a picture on my computer with PSE9 it appears in the Editor. After I make changes in the picture I would like to be able to add it to the Organizer without having to open the Organier,Find the file on my computer and then see it in the Organizer.
I have a fairly large catalog with about 20 album categories, each with between 5 and 15 albums, totalling about 20,000 photos, all currently residing on my laptop. I need to move everything to a networked drive but can't find how in the Elements help system.
This morning (10/25/12) after booted my system I had a notification that there was a set of updates to my Photoshop CS6 product set. I went ahead a did the updates which installed successfully. A few minutes later I started up Photoshop Elements 10. The start-up of PSE 10 appeared normal at first, but there was a lot of hard disk activity and the Organizer window would not respond when I tried to move the sliders. I started up Task Manager and could see that PSE 10 was continuing to use processor time. I killed PSE 10 and restarted it. I decided to let it run and so far it's been doing something for over 30 minutes. From time to time the window will flash and occasionally I get an hourglass icon to display over the window. I'm not able to move the window or shrink it. I guess I'll just let it run to see if it will ever become operational. My catalog has entries for about 40,000 images so I'm wondering if the Adobe update affected something in the catalog, although the update did not seem to include anything for PSE. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit edition with all the latest Microsoft updates.
Computer 1's hard drive crash and all programs and data were recovered professionally and sent to me on an External Hard Drive. Computer 1 was on Windows 7. I can fun the program off of the External Hard drive fine, when connected to my my new Computer. I click on the .exe file and it pulls up the catalogue as it should. All off of the recovery drive.
The new Computer, is on Windows 8.1. How do I get the Adobe Catalogues moved/copied to the new Computer?
I redownload Adobe 10 onto my new 8.1 Computer from the Adobe website. Using the new download, I was able to open the Catalogue on the External Drive (F). Cannot find a way to "relocate" the Catalogue to the new computer. The pictures have already been copied to the new computer.
I am new to PSE and have version 10. My photos are organized by year and within a year by dates and events. I cannot seem to bring those pictures into the Organizer.
I have succeeded in bringing a single photo into Organizer but would really like to bring in entire folders at a time.
I have installed Elements 12 and successfully indexed my media files and performed facial recognition, however now in the organiser, not all files are displaying. Some are and others come up with an image like a broken link (See image). All the photos are fine (not corrupted) and can be viewed by other media viewers.
First, all of the photos in my albums and folders disappeared from Organizer leaving empty album and folder categories. The next day, the album and folder titles disappeared, leaving one big blank space. how I can retrieve all of my photos and why this would have occurred in the first place?
I have Elements 10 Core Version 10.0 Language Version 10.0 fully updated (or so Elements reports on asking to check updates) running in Windows 7 64 bit.
I have over 20,000 photos on C drive in jpeg or fine jpeg format mainly shot with a Nikon D70 over several years. I took photos last Friday/Saturday with a new Nikon D7000 (jpeg) and uploaded to Elements 10 (C drive) via SD card reader. They uploaded OK, were saved to Elements Organiser and I deleted some, edited others and emailed several. Today these photos are missing and possibly other shots taken after 10th Feb 2013 too some of which might have been taken with the D70.
Both Elements Reconnet and Find Photos and Videos fail to find any photos not already in the Organiser. I tried Recuva to search the PC's hard drives for deleted photos. It didn't find any as such - only eBay etc jpegs.
I have 120kb copies of the emailed photos attached to the emails in the Outlook Sent box. I noted the reference number of a photo and searched Windows 7 for it. Windows doesn't find it.
Before I looked at Elements today Windows was installing update KB2656351 concerning NET framework 4 and we had a power cut part way through. I have no idea if this is relevant but I menton it in case it is.
There are no photos in the Organiser after 10th Feb 2013 and there should be several hundred. I can take the loss as they probably weren't vital photos but I am very keen to know where they went to do my level best to ensure it doesn't happen again with more valuable photos.
I have phoned Abobe but they only support Elements 11 now, they said. I have searched without success both their FAQ's and the FAQ's on this forum.
