Photoshop Elements :: Error - Could Not Initialize Because File Is Locked?
Jun 5, 2013I have just installed Elements 11 on a current Mac and when i start it i get this error Error: "could not initialize photoshop because the file is locked..." I have trashed the prefs, reinstalled it , restarted nothing works. If i log in as another user on the Mac it opens with no problem.

Sep 18, 2012I am trying to move my catalog from a Windows xp computer to a new Windows 7 computer.In attempting to do so I an trying to make a backup of my catalog.When I attempt to make a full catalog backup I get an error message at the end of the writing of the backup file. The message is: "Error encountered while writing file."
The images are written to the backup file (> 20,000 images) and the Catalog.buc is written as well, but the Backup.tly is missing in the backup folder.I have gone thru my catalog and have found no unconnected files and no file that are in need of repair. Everything seems to be in order with the catalog.
Lightroom :: Locked Out Of Catalog
Mar 27, 2014i am locked out of my catalog. last time, deleting the .lock file worked. this time, when i delete it, it doesn't work and the lock file reappears. what gives? have tried several times, the .lock files are in my recycle bin.

- I have to use Task Manage to shut LR4 down
- LR4 will then not restart
- Computer shutdown also stops working.
I have to pull the plug to restart.I am a current LR2 user and am upgrading to LR4. I use Win7 64bit.I looked over 4.1 RC2 release notes and saw nothing on the subject.

Jan 12, 2008I try to open my Photoshop 7.0 I get two error messages. I don't understand why I am getting these messages, or how to fix them. The error messages appear at startup during the initializing of the Photoshop 7.0, these messages state:
Error Message 1: Can not find workspace folder.
Error Message 2: Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked. Use the Properties command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
There is no Properties command under Windows Explorer, there is one under Photoshop 7.0, but nowhere does it say "unlock file". I have seen a similar problem for the CS2 in the FAQ section, so I tried to use that fix, but it did not work. I have uninstalled & reinstalled, cleared cache, de-fragged, and unhidden the files ...

Oct 14, 2013My latest battle with PSE11 is trying to access my catalog in PSE11 via the Catalog Manager but it doesn't show up in the list.
The catalog is named My Catalog 2 is located at C:ProgramDataAdobeElements OrganizerCatalogsMy Catalog 2. It is the only catalog I use and is the one that opens up when I launch Organizer. But, for the life of me, I can't get it to show up in the Catalog Manager. The only catalog that shows up is the original catalog which is at a different location and was created when I installed PSE11 on my new computer (Thinkpad W530, Windows 8). I've tried the Custom Location option and browsing to the location, but still no dice. This catalog has thousands of pictures and was converted from my previous PSE6 catalog. How do I get the Catalog Manager to find my current active catalog?

Aug 21, 2008Upon starting Photo shop CS, I get the message "Could not initialize Photo shop because the file is locked. Use the 'Properties command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file."
Which file are they referring to "unlock"? And I don't see an option in Windows Explorer that allows you to "unlock" a file.
This problem started after I improperly tried to create a new scratch disk. I can't get back into Photo shop to recreate a proper scratch disk.

I am now changing to an iMac on Mavericks, without a DVD player, so copied the discs to memory sticks. However the "Install" process would not run and I was directed to Adobe Support Adviser, which I downloaded and ran. It "could find no problem" and collected data for a Suppotrt Case.

I am able to make a PDF of the same file, but when packaking the process fails every time. The app does not crash, just gives an error message. What gives?

I have 8 .ico files that i converted to .png to open them. once all are open i try to combine into one file with 8 layers but am unable to do it!?!? Jul 25, 2013I have been using Elements 11 to enhance my photos. Recently I purchased a camera modified for 720nm IR from Kolari Vision. I'd like to process IR photos in Elements or an add on program. Kolari has a Infrared False Color program compatable with Photoshop CS but I am unable to open it in Elements. I emailed Kolari and their reply said the program was compatible with Elements but could not tell me how to apply it. As an alternative is there an add on software I can purchase?
