Photoshop Elements :: IPTC Keywords - Batch Editing
Oct 16, 2011The IPTC keywords contain tags in many of my photos that have long since been deleted or changed. Is there any way to batch edit this field?

View 1 RepliesI already had a thread about PSP X6 crashing (URL....), but what I finally found now deserves a new thread, because it has nothing to do with MSVCR90.DLL, but with PSP handling the keywords, as it seems now after tests.
PSP was crashing when opened in a certain folder, so I renamed the folder, created a new one, and copied the images from the old renamed one 2-4 pieces at a time. I then opened PSP on the new folder after each copy, and all went well until the last 2 copied images. I then deleted them, copied again each of the 2 images separately, and found the culprit. It was the only image in that folder being tagged with hierarchical IPTC keywords. Moved the image from the folder, copied others into, and all went well again.
Navigated to another folder with older pictures, all tagged hierarchical, and PSP crashed again.Even after deleting the hierarchical keywords from that image, and renaming it didn't work. As soon as PSP founds that image it crashes.
Taking a look into the database: Indeed there is no structure for hierarchical keywords. And this is for me almost a real catastrophe! Both Lightroom 4 and Xnview can handle hierarchical keywords, which are very useful. Because I'm working with these software as much as with PSP, I started to tag my pictures accordingly, about 1200 of them until now, which took hours and hours. Xnview can even nicely create nested categories from the keywords, so it's one click to find all pictures with a given word.
Just starting to use Lightroom (4.4).Testing import to a catalog of images with IPTC metadata. Using PhotoME to display metadata. PhotoME shows list of content in IPTC SubjectCode field, and in Keyword field. These look as intended when I added the metadata to the images in CyPics.
But in Lightroom the Keyword Tags display correctly shows the SubjectCode entries, but does not show any of the IPTC Keyword data.
I've been using v3.6 with Win Vista for a long time and also use Geosetter to Geotag my RAW images with location data. Geosetter creates an XMP file which includes the location data. I then update the metadata of the image in LR. In the process LR has always created keywords using the location fields e.g Country, State/Province etc.
I've now moved over to Win 8.1 and re-installed LR 3.6 but still use the same catalog. Now when I go throught the same process as above the keywords are not created. Geosetter is the same version although the Exiftool version has been updated.
I have a batch of 5000 pictures (jpg). I need to add the information that I have in an .xls file (Excel), from a column with the description of each picture. Each description is different from the others, so I would have to assign the code number of the file jpg (first colum of the excel) to the correspondance info that exists in the column of the description/caption into the IPTC field.
I have tried several ways, applications that I have found through Google, but I have no way to do it. It seems that the origin of the problem is the xls file or the txt file that I have had to created to try to do the importation. In any case messages of errors like "the file does not exists", etc etc. I don`t know what to do it. It's very important and urgent for my job.
* I work with MAC OX S 10.7.5, Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
* I have tried applications like: DIY Metadata, VRA Export-Import Metadata and another ones... which names I don't remember now.
Is there any way to use Actions in Batch Editing in Photoshop Elements 10 or any Elements?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the descriptive text for several hundred images in an excel sheet. There are five separate fields (excel columns) - Image filename; Title (Headline); Description (Caption); Keywords; Location how I can import this information into a lightroom catalog and match them up with the relevant images ? I can export the excel informaton into an xml file but would need to know the relevant field names.

2nd question: is there a keyboard shortcut to to open the Catalog-->All Photographs window?
When I use the batch command in Photoshop CS5 the results are the same as if I did the touch up manually. This is not true in CS6. What can I do to rectify this problem.
View 41 Replies View RelatedPhotoshop cs6 64 windows 7 64. I'd like to do a highly repetitive action to a single open file. In this case:
file save as currentname_print.psd
then commit action save as currentname.png
then commit another action and save as currentname_small.png
at the moment batch seems to be great for running the same action for many files, but if I want to run a repetitive action such as this I can't seem to figure it out. but I cant seem to get it working, and searches only seem to turn up questions about doing the same action to multiple files.
ps: it seems strange that within the action menu I cant create sets that have variables aka current file name+afix, if the actions feature had this I'd be golden.
ps+ also seems that this could be handled by bridge quite efficiently.
just wondering if there is a way to do some simple edits such as auto colour adjusments etc on a large batch of photos rather than having to do them one by one?? can then add the more specific edits ontop.
can anyone point me to a tutorial that would give me a step by step run through - or give me a few nudges in the right direction!
I am using window 7, 64bit with 8 gigs of ram. What is not understood in same results using the batch command, and manually re touching in CS5, but not the same when done in CS6. The results are different in CS6.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have an excel list of about 2000 names. I need to add each name text to a image I created and then have it saved as a separate file. Is there any kind of automation/shortcut to do something like this, rather then manaully typing each name?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 30 dirs, each of them with 4 thumbs in it. I want to make one big thumb of every 4 smaller ones, by resizing and fitting them together into square. Like
Thumb1 right next to Thumb2

Thumb3 right next to Thumb4
and then save that image.
Would you give me any direction how to do that? I'm with CS3. I did explore the auto and script options in the File menu, but still unable to get idea how to do that, if possible at all
My computer had to be reformatted with the operating system re-loaded (Vista). I reloaded PE 10 and then moved my saved photos back into the software. the problem is that all of my tags (various family and friends) seem to have disappeared completely from the Organizer as has an album I painstakingly set up. I have all the photos, but a subset of them are not organized into the album I created.
Is there any way to get back my tags (the categories aren't even showing in Organizer and the photos aren't tagged) and to get back my album?
In previous PSE-versions there was a small ticker next to each keyword to multiselect persons into a search.
This is gone, and I see no such functionality in "Peeople". It would be nice to have "People" among the keywords as well to in this way quick-search people and other keywords.
I have just started to embed keywords on the file info on images that I am submitting for sale. I cannot seem to copy and paste and have to type keywords repeatedly on each image.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing with at least 100 pipes in it. Unfortunately there was an error in the spelling of the pipe material in the network parts list and all of these existing pipes have to be edited. The only way that I can find to access the material property is to open the property dialog for each pipe and fix it one at a time.
Any other solution that would allow us to batch edit a series of pipe material properties?
I added Keywords to many jpg files when I should have added them to their scanned source files (tifs). Is there an efficient way to copy them from the jpg versions to their tif “originals?” Except for their suffixes, they are identically named.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just transferred all my photos from an PC (microsoft) to an iMac. At the same time I upgraded from elements 5 to version 11. Before doing the transfer I saved all the tags to the metadata. On the iMac both the tags and the keywords in the metadata are all in place but when I do a search on a particular tag, only a small number of the relevant photos (the most recent) are found.

View 5 Replies View RelatedLightroom has a collection containing all images without keywords.
As soon as I apply a keyword to images they instantly disappear from the collection. This is alright when I only want to apply a single keyword, but how do I stop it happening when I want to apply multiple keywords to the same image(s)?

I have tagged all of my video files (wmv, mp4) with keywords in Adobe Bridge. I am certain that they are written to the files. Unfortunately PE 11 Organizer doesn't seem to see those on import? Any suggestions on how to make that happen? I am looking for ways to search for video clips and import the search results into Premiere Elements. Unfortunately there is no direct way to go from Bridge to Premiere Elements either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like new functionality on handling tags for filtering/searching photos (as a replacement of the `advanced search`)
The goal is, to use the same Tag-structure to tag photos and also to filter them (most likely as you could do that with PSE 9 ) .
I don't want this `advanced search` window, that takes a lot of space - I want to see my photos, not a hug program border..
I have a around 500 cdr(corel draw ) files, and each pages have around 20 images in it.
so what i do. select every single image on the pages then using convert bitmap option to save them on my computer. That consume my whole time in saving them to my computer.
Is there any fast option available to select all images at once and convert to bitmap 20 images and save in a number say 1,2 ...20
I would like to move from using Elements to using Lightroom. Whilst I realise that I can import my catalogue and photos, which should also create all my keywords, I am concerned that the existing keywords/tags parent/child structure would be lost? They would be created as a single contiguous list?
How to go about moving the tags across whilst maintaining the original structure AND remaining associated with the correct photos?
