Just starting to use Lightroom (4.4).Testing import to a catalog of images with IPTC metadata. Using PhotoME to display metadata. PhotoME shows list of content in IPTC SubjectCode field, and in Keyword field. These look as intended when I added the metadata to the images in CyPics.
But in Lightroom the Keyword Tags display correctly shows the SubjectCode entries, but does not show any of the IPTC Keyword data.
I have used multiple versions of Lightroom (2, 3, 4, and now 5). Why can't I add keyword tags to multiple photos? I know that it can be done while importing, but I usually import a whole day's worth of pictures at one time and they don't require all the same keyword tags. The ones that are common I do add during import. I used to be able to highlight the photos I wanted to add tags to, go to the metadata and find find the list of keywords applied to those photos. Tags that were not common to all photos has an * beside them. If I wished to have one of these tags for all the selected photos I just removed the *, otherwise I added the new tag to the list.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using v3.6 with Win Vista for a long time and also use Geosetter to Geotag my RAW images with location data. Geosetter creates an XMP file which includes the location data. I then update the metadata of the image in LR. In the process LR has always created keywords using the location fields e.g Country, State/Province etc.
I've now moved over to Win 8.1 and re-installed LR 3.6 but still use the same catalog. Now when I go throught the same process as above the keywords are not created. Geosetter is the same version although the Exiftool version has been updated.
How do I display previously created subcategories under keyword tags in PSE10. A double click on the icons does not work now.

So my idea is to turn off keyword export for all keywords, then turn it back on for just those few. But I can't see how to toggle export for more than one keyword at once. Since I have hundreds of keywords, it isn't very practical for me to do it one by one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm currently trying to understand keywords & keyword hierarchies. I have successfully created several keywords that include sub-keywords and synonyms, for example, the top keyword "Location" includes the sub-keyword "Europe", and for that I have entered the synonym "Europa" (German translation for "Europe"). Now, I apply the keyword "Europe" to an image, export the image, and add the exported image to my catalog. And now Lightroom automatically adds "Europa" as a separate keyword to my keyword list. This defeats the whole purpose of keyword hierarchies, since my keyword list will soon be cluttered again, and all the help sites I've browsed so far speak of uncluttered keyword lists.
I have checked the option "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy" when exporting - I thought this would mean that my exported image will contain the same keyword hierarchy and thus there shouldn't be any new keywords added to my list when adding that exported file to my catalog. But it doesn't seem to work...
I just exported a large batch of images sized for submission to Alamy. I had the images that were created by the export, imported back into Lightroom.
The problem. All the keyword synonyms that were exported in the images, created new stand alone keywords in the keyword list - bad.
I had all my keywords nicely organized into 12 neat groups. Now I have a couple of hundred top level keywords because of the synonyms.
Can this be prevented?
My department is making an overhaul on our keyword usage and we want to figure out which keyword tags have been used the most and which ones are rare and uncommon. Is there a way to export a spreadsheet and/or view the keyword statistics?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the Keywording panel, the rectangle where you can enter or edit keyword tags shows a white border. Tags cannot be added or changed. The dropdown above the box is set to Enter Keywords.
Not sure to how restore editing ability.
I have been using LR 4 for a couple days now and when I went to the "Keyword List" I could access some of the keywords. When I got to "S's" I could not access them. One other thing I did, was to use the "Filter Keywords" and when I put the "S's" in, then I could. Seems maybe there is a limit to how many keywords can be listed?

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently had my motherboard replaced under warranty and had to reinstall all programs. Had previously synched all my image files (and LR catalog files) to a separate hard drive using MemeoSync.
When I reinstalled and opened LR4.4 I found that the only folder showing was the synched drive (I:) whereas it should have been the C: drive. All synched images on the I: drive were correctly tagged but the original images on the C: drive had no keywords. I understand I can move all the files from the I: drive to the C: drive but there is another mystery I cannot solve.
I take all photos as RAW & jpeg. The files on the I: drive show the RAW files and the separate (but related) jpeg files. On the C: drive they are shown as <filename>.CR2+JPEG and I can't seem to separate them. I have tried ticking the box 'Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate files" without success.
So my question is, if I move all 49,000 files from one drive to the other, will the moved files retain the keyword tags AND the separated RAW/JPEG files? Also, must I delete all files from the C: drive before I move the replicated files from the I: drive? If this is successful I will then want to remove the I: folder in LR and just have the C: folder showing.
I'm using Organizer 11. First time evething was ok, persons/faces were detected correctly, then after a few month Organizer doesn't detected new faces and said every time that all faces were detected already also when I imported new fotos from my camera...
(I use the german version, so I can not tell you the exact error message in english, hope you unserstand what I mean.)
As I found no solution, I created a new catalog and imported all photos including their tags newly to this empty catalog. But allready tagged persons are not persons anymore - their tags are now in the "imported keyword tags" (German: "Importierte Stichwort-Tags") and not in the "person/face tags".
How can I tell the organizer that the imported Tags are persons/faces to having no douplicates in the person-tags and normal keyword-tags?
Here some Background Information about my system:
PSE 11, Windows 8, 64 Bit 8GB, Intel i7.
3 catalogs with each 8000-10000 photos.
I have just upgraded my Swedish PSE7 to an English PSE11. Of course the people keyword tags did not get converted into people tags because People is called Folk in Swedish. I was not aware of this mechanism prior to upgrading. How can I convert those keyword tags now?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 7 64 bit. LR 4 worked fine. LR5 has the following (main) issues/bugs: Crashes when help - about system is clicked.
Freezes on keyword changes and will not refresh or change keywords with newly selected image. Sometimes fixes with waiting a long time, sometimes only with restart of the program or optimization of database.Does not allow files to be rotated in full view, only in grid view.
With the upgrade to 5.2 I hoped the above would be corrected. They have not, and now, as an added 'feature' I also have:During the same session, a previously exported image is re-exported with a new export in place of one or more of the newer exports. This happens despite the filmstrip or grid view being in sync on choices and when I am certain that previously exported image is not selected in the current export.
Further, the program does seem quite sluggish at times, though I have the program and database on seperate drives. I am thinking or will change over to working in previews to resolve that issue, meanwhile, the other issues are still in play.
Why are the tags I added to images in PSE not assocated with the images when I import them into LR. Some of them are on the keyword list, but not all. And none of them are associated with an image. I am trying out LR but its difficult if I have to go and retag things again?

Whilst I realise that I can import my catalogue and photos, which should also create all my keywords, I am concerned that the existing keywords/tags parent/child structure would be lost? They would be created as a single contiguous list?
How to go about moving the tags across whilst maintaining the original structure AND remaining associated with the correct photos?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI already had a thread about PSP X6 crashing (URL....), but what I finally found now deserves a new thread, because it has nothing to do with MSVCR90.DLL, but with PSP handling the keywords, as it seems now after tests.
PSP was crashing when opened in a certain folder, so I renamed the folder, created a new one, and copied the images from the old renamed one 2-4 pieces at a time. I then opened PSP on the new folder after each copy, and all went well until the last 2 copied images. I then deleted them, copied again each of the 2 images separately, and found the culprit. It was the only image in that folder being tagged with hierarchical IPTC keywords. Moved the image from the folder, copied others into, and all went well again.
Navigated to another folder with older pictures, all tagged hierarchical, and PSP crashed again.Even after deleting the hierarchical keywords from that image, and renaming it didn't work. As soon as PSP founds that image it crashes.
Taking a look into the database: Indeed there is no structure for hierarchical keywords. And this is for me almost a real catastrophe! Both Lightroom 4 and Xnview can handle hierarchical keywords, which are very useful. Because I'm working with these software as much as with PSP, I started to tag my pictures accordingly, about 1200 of them until now, which took hours and hours. Xnview can even nicely create nested categories from the keywords, so it's one click to find all pictures with a given word.
The IPTC keywords contain tags in many of my photos that have long since been deleted or changed. Is there any way to batch edit this field?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn LR5, when two images are selected in Library view, the results in the Keyword Tags panel are incomplete. In my instance, two images were selected. They have some common keywords and those are properly displayed. However, the keywords assigned to only one image appeared with an asterisk in previous versions of LR, a behavior I would like to see continue.
In my instance, one keyword for, we'll say, Image A only, appears but with no asterisk, it should display an asterisk. And, one keyword unique to Image B does not appear at all when both images have been selected, it too should appear with an asterisk.
I'm on a Mac running 10.8.4 and LR CC.
Where the keyword tags are actually stored in the metadata of a CDR file? I've got a lot of tagged CDR's, and I'm converting them to JPG's to use in a photogallery. I'd like to transfer the tags to the jpgs so they are still searchable, but I can't figure out where the tags are stored. I've tried looking in FileTagSlueth and ExifTool, but neither of them are apparently look in the right place.
If I can find the location, I'm hoping I can find a way to transfer them with EXIFtool. Barring that, another option might be to modify the FileConvertor macro to retain keywords, but that's beyond my scope.
As an aside, I can't seem to save keywords to CMX files (tried entering them through Document Properties), only to CDR's. Is this correct?

I have just installed PS El:11 and convered the catalogue from PS El:10 however whilst all the photo's are showing none appear under the tags created in PS El:10 However all the tags have transferred to 11 but no photos appear to be linked - what have I done wrong and how do I get them linked without going through 4k + of photo's to re-tag them!
