View 3 RepliesI would like to use a vector object made in AI as a custom shape to be used as a cookie cutter in elements.. I imported the AI file in photoshop but the "define custom shape" entry under "edit" was grayed out.

I have installed the fonts but the amount of color editing and customization I can do is very, very small. For example I want to take a letter have it colored purple (so far so good) and then give a border to the letter like thin line of yellow (no option that allows me to do this).
we are talking about pretty big letters here but I cant seem to be able to do this. I am trying to edit this pre existing image and trying to enter dialogue bubbles with thin colored borders.
As for the dialogue/though bubbles themselves I can seem to find any "insert shape" inside gimp, you sometimes characters are yelling or crying or just speaking normally has to be shown by the dialogue bubble but I cant seem to be able to do it.
I have used photoshop before but it is very complex and I feel like I can work with GIMP much more easier and faster but none of these basic options seem to be available. Are there addons to install so I can work easier with than making every single dialogue bubble from scratch? *shudder*
Edit: I am using both the new version and the 2.6 version... I find the new version absolutely terrible, especially when it comes to saving your work as an image file but if necessary I will work with both versions.
Does Photoshop Elements 11 have the "shapes" tool?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIsn't it possible to (simply) cut out a random piece of the canvas, leaving an image that isn't square or rectangle?
For example, I had the image below posted online to sell these pants. I sold the bottom left pair, and tried for an hour to figure out how I could just cut out that corner, but was unsuccessful.I didn't want to erase or fill the spot, I wanted to cut it out completely, leaving a backward "L" shaped canvas.I can't believe this isn't possible, seems like it would be a very useful tool. I thought I could lasso any shape and cut it out, but the canvas remains a rectangular.I ended up filling the spot, but it's ugly - color sample was taken from carpet, but it filled with grey.
For some reason, all of a sudden when I go to make a shape and choose a color, it does not fill. I noticed that the Style box to the right of the color box on the top bar had a white box with a red line through it. I then chose Simple Outer from the drop down box and it still will not fill. I am using Elements 10.

View 4 Replies View RelatedStarting with a blank document i want to create a poster. I go to add lines and shapes etc.. after drawing the first line or shape they disappear as soon as I go to draw another line or shape..
I use to design posters in a different program and what ever i drew stayed one the page it didn't disapear unless i place another object on top.
I am looking for a list of brushes & custom shapes that were added or removed in the last four versions of Photoshop Elements. (v8-v11) I have already tried a Google search, which resulted in nothing. Before I spend hours making my own list, maybe Adobe has a list they can share or perhaps someone else has already taken the time to compile their own list.I am needing the information to cross reference as part of our teaching program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've used Photoshop 5 for 14+ years now and was forced to switch to Photoshop Elements 11 when we installed new computers at work recently. It seems to be missing an important tool (for me) that I can't seem to find. I don't know the official name but I called it a "vector" tool. You could draw custom curved and straight lines between set points to create a unique shape. Does it exist or is there a newer way to do the same task?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn all previous versions of Elements, if you set your editing in iPhoto preferences to Elements it would send the file to Elements and open in the Editor.. with this version when I do the same, it only opens the editor but no picture to edit..
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Elements 11 it was announced that selecting difficult shapes like hair for cutting out people etc was a new feature.I actually now know how to do it now because I have a tutorial from Digital Photo Magazine, It didnt feature in the new guided edits or "How To" videos (Why not?)
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I select a color for text and shapes, the software defaults to shades of gray, although black and white are available. I use the eyedropper to select red on the pallette, for example, and the red box is framed. But the color sample on both the menu bar and the tool bar sets to gray. Is there a swicth somewhere that inhibits red, green, blue, etc.?
I even reinstalled the program, thinking I had a glitch--no change. The color selection had always worked in the past.
I picked up a new laptop in November,at first I had no trouble with Elements 5,in January when I tried to edit I got a message (not Responding)I downloaded the patch, reloaded, rebooted and still nothing.

I'm working with PSE8 and OS X 10.9.1
I have a picture that I added people to from other pictures. Now I want to put this picture with the additions into a folder because I make calendars every year and wanted this picture in for the calendar. When I go into the picture and right click to try and make a copy the brushes and come up and tell me to pick a size and it looks like I am in the cloning and I cannot get out. I cannot see where I can click to say that I am finished with the editing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm just testing out the new CS6 extended version and am on the trial period using a mac.
My problem is in editing the 3d objects I have imported. These were imported in 3ds format and contain numerous different elements (over 50) within the same file. All are neatly to scale and positioned correctly in relation to one another.
I need to be able to edit these individual elements within photoshop and assign different materials. I can't seem to separate these individual objects onto different layers in order to work with them further. In addition, although I can scale or move the elements, I cannot delete them without deleting the whole layer.
I have tried looking at merge 3D layers but as I only have one layer it doesn't work. How can I assign these objects to different layers without importing each element separately into photoshop (and therefore losing their scale and position)?
I've just finished scanning thousands of photos, and I've placed them in about a dozen different folders. Now I'm looking to edit them one at a time. So I call up the Organizer and open up the Editor area to work on the first photo.
Is there some kind of "Next" command ... some quick way to move on to the second photo in the same folder, after I've finished editing the first?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was a user of Elements3 for a long time mainly because I liked that the catalog's "edit with" feature worked with Photoshop CS2. I recently got a new PC with Windows 7 so I could not install PSE 3. I downloaded PSE9 trial version to see if all worked well and it was worth the purchase. The problem I am having is that I cannot seem to get my Photoshop (CS2) as a supplementary editing option. When I try it tells me this
But if I don't add it like it says, there is not a Photoshop option when I go to the "edit with" list.
I don't know if this is right, but from the little bit of research I did it thinks I am trying to add Elements again because the Elements program exe file starts with "Photoshop" so when it reads the Photoshop.exe file it thinks it is a duplicate. I tried creating a copy and renaming the Photoshop.exe file which almost worked. Elements allowed me to select it as a supplementary editor and afterwards Photoshop was an edit option. I tried to edit a photo with it and while the program opened, it then got an error message and ended up closing before the photo came up for editing.
use Photoshop as my editor. I really liked how I could edit in PS and keep a neat catalog of edited versions with the Elements versioning capability. If I can't do it I probably won't end up purchasing the PSE9 program.
