I am trying to crop a JPG slightly to get a specific size. I have set the size in the toolbar of the crop tool and draw the crop mask, but when I try to complete the crop it says "Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full". I have two disks on this machine, one with 26GB free and the other with 77GB free and this is only a 250x970px image. I did several prior crops on the same image among other operations, but wanted to use the exact size on this one since it needs to fit in a rotating banner for a website. I can crop it if I leave out the exact size, but then, of course, I am only guessing at the size.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a fairly large CMYK document, 300dpi 160inches x 38inches. On disk it registers as just under 3.69gigs as a .PSB file, and as 1.53g/18.0g in Photoshop's Document Sizes info panel. I'm using CS6 extended.
I'm at the point where I can barely work with this thing any longer, as nearly any time I attempt to run a filter or make basic transformations, I get the "scratch disks full" error and PS is unable to complete the task. I'm also receiving the same error when attempting to save changes to the file to disk.
The thing is, in my performance preferences I have an external HDD with 330gigs of available space set as the primary hard drive, and am still getting this error. If I switch the primary scratch to a second internal 7200rpm HDD with 60gigs available, I don't have that issue for the first couple of operations, until the PS temporary file baloons to 40+gigs and I start getting the error again, necessitating a restart of Photoshop which of course loses my unsaved changes. I've also tried allocating my two internal SSD drives (Windows 7 and applications) as the 3rd and 4th scratch disks, which doesn't seem to work at all. They both have only around 5gigs free each.
I have 180 GB of free space on my scratch disk and I try to open 558 MB file, but I still get the "Could not complete your request because the scratch disks are full." -message. I have 8 GB of RAM and no other major programs on. What to do?

Now PS will not start and I get the error message "could not initialize photoshop because of a problem using the adobe color engine."Computer has 2 NVIDIA Quadro4 NVS 420 graphics boards with 8 Samsung SyncMaster 1920x1080 monitors. If I disable 4 of the monitors CS5 starts normally. I do not have to remove the added graphics card. When I extend the desktop again to all 8 monitors I get the error above.

I went into my Preferences and put my C: drive as my first choice (which is only about 10 percent full) and my D: drive as my second. I have a new HP with the D: drive being the recovery portion of the hard drive. I have gone in and cleaned it out. I have restarted both Photoshop and my computer. I read online that you can clean out all of the temp files but it did not say where to locate them. I have searched for "#pst" files. I also can't find my "Local Settings" (because Vista still confuses me) to find temp folders. The only temp folders, I can find has nothing to do with Photoshop.

so I got the 'scratch disks are full' message when I tried opening new projects. After googling, I read to just change the location to another hard drive instead of the main one, so I went into preferences, unchecked the C drive & checked the E drive. Now photoshop won't let me open it. I get this message:

When I first installed Adobe Photoshop CS6 I was unable to run Photoshop or Bridge CS6. Photoshop would give me an error about "could not open a scratch file because the file is locked. If I ran either of these programs as an administrator they would run without issue, this led me to believe that there was a permission issue somewhere. After some digging I found out the both Bridge and Photoshop try to create a temp file (similiar to Photoshop Temp2777223910092) on the c: drive of the computer. In my case the user that I was logged in with did not have access to write to the root of the C: drive. Note that you run the program as the administrator and change the scratch disk location as that changes the preference for the administrator user and not the user that you are currently logged in as.
I first had to give the user that I was logged on with write permissions to the root of the C: drive. Next try and run Photoshop, you will get an error another error about the scratch disk and about and invalid or missing setting file. To correct this you need to have run Photoshop as an administrator, next you can go to Users AdminAppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings and copy Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs and/or Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs to Users<your logged in username>AppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6.Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings.
