so I got the 'scratch disks are full' message when I tried opening new projects. After googling, I read to just change the location to another hard drive instead of the main one, so I went into preferences, unchecked the C drive & checked the E drive. Now photoshop won't let me open it. I get this message:
"Could not open a scratch file because the fil eis locked, you do not have nexassary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the 'properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file." how do I do this, exactly?
If I have 4 Scratch disks does photoshop use all scratch simultaneously or does it wait for the first scratch to fill up before it starts to use the next one ?
I have a problem with Scratch disks in Photoshop CS. I am trying to work with PSB format. Every time I do an operation on a large file (even as small as 1 GB PSB)I get the Scratch Disk dialogue Error- Scratch Disks full. Code:
I have Photoshop CS3 (and Windows Vista) and just recently every time I attempt to crop, it gives me the error message that my scratch disks is full. I went into my Preferences and put my C: drive as my first choice (which is only about 10 percent full) and my D: drive as my second. I have a new HP with the D: drive being the recovery portion of the hard drive. I have gone in and cleaned it out. I have restarted both Photoshop and my computer. I read online that you can clean out all of the temp files but it did not say where to locate them. I have searched for "#pst" files. I also can't find my "Local Settings" (because Vista still confuses me) to find temp folders. The only temp folders, I can find has nothing to do with Photoshop.
I just installed Photoshop 7.0 on my Windows 7 system. When the program first booted I got the message that I should put the scratch disk on a seperate volume. I was not allowed time to do this even if I new how. Now the program will not load. I get the message Scratch Disks Full.
Every time I click,File ->New, it says, "Can not create a new document because the scratch disks are full." What is a scratch disk and how do I make it empty so that I can create a new document?
I have tons of space and ram available on my machine. This error msg occurs when I try to crop. I have gone as far as to reinstall PS [but kept my preferences]. Scratch is set to my c: drive and the default 50%. Any suggestions on what else I might try?
I've been using ps6 program has halted on me and come up with an error telling me my scratch disks are full.
I've got the photshop bible and the adobe book on ps6 but neither explain it very well or give me any clue as to how I should make my scratch disks bigger?
I can not complete any action while in photoshop because the scratch disks are full. I have already run into the Performance Preferences and allowed the program to use the 7.09 GB I have of free space. I am about to throw out the laptop through the windows....
I am trying to crop a JPG slightly to get a specific size. I have set the size in the toolbar of the crop tool and draw the crop mask, but when I try to complete the crop it says "Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full". I have two disks on this machine, one with 26GB free and the other with 77GB free and this is only a 250x970px image. I did several prior crops on the same image among other operations, but wanted to use the exact size on this one since it needs to fit in a rotating banner for a website. I can crop it if I leave out the exact size, but then, of course, I am only guessing at the size.
I had a really big file open and suddenly my computer crashes. And now when I select the Startup as scratch disk it always sais the scratch disks are full. Even when I restart PS or my comp, the message stays. So I have to select a different drive.
I am creating an extremely large file to be printed @ over 20 feet long. I've been in touch with the printer who told me that my original file, at 1/4 scale and 100 DPI was not high enough resolution, 1/4 would have to be 400 PPI, which is where I am now.
I'm working with a fairly large CMYK document, 300dpi 160inches x 38inches. On disk it registers as just under 3.69gigs as a .PSB file, and as 1.53g/18.0g in Photoshop's Document Sizes info panel. I'm using CS6 extended.
I'm at the point where I can barely work with this thing any longer, as nearly any time I attempt to run a filter or make basic transformations, I get the "scratch disks full" error and PS is unable to complete the task. I'm also receiving the same error when attempting to save changes to the file to disk.
The thing is, in my performance preferences I have an external HDD with 330gigs of available space set as the primary hard drive, and am still getting this error. If I switch the primary scratch to a second internal 7200rpm HDD with 60gigs available, I don't have that issue for the first couple of operations, until the PS temporary file baloons to 40+gigs and I start getting the error again, necessitating a restart of Photoshop which of course loses my unsaved changes. I've also tried allocating my two internal SSD drives (Windows 7 and applications) as the 3rd and 4th scratch disks, which doesn't seem to work at all. They both have only around 5gigs free each.
I have 180 GB of free space on my scratch disk and I try to open 558 MB file, but I still get the "Could not complete your request because the scratch disks are full." -message. I have 8 GB of RAM and no other major programs on. What to do?
Just intslled Elements 2.0 on my HP Pavillion running Win 7 (64-bit) and got "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the scratch disks are full". What gives, what this is referring to.
When I try to start the program for the first time - just installed it - I get the error message "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the scratch disks are full". The error is a fatal one - big cross on the left had side - program closes when you press OK
Scratch disks are write protected or unavailable. To open this project,, the scratch disks will be set to your Documents folder. Would you like to continue?
I recently installed Photoshop CS5, however every time I open the application, I am receiving this error message at the loading screen:
"Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders."
Reinstalled Photoshop many times, even the CS6 BETA is giving me the same error.Deleted preference files within /Library/Preferences/Used the cmd+alt shortcut when starting Photoshop to select a different scratch disk location.Used the cmd+alt+shift shortcut to delete the settings file, which I cannot do as the error message mentioned above appears before the window for deleting the settings file does.Tried rebooting several times, even into safemode and I still get the same message.Tried changing the permissions on the Applications folder, Adobe folder, CS5 folder and CS5 application, however they are all set to 'read & write access' for me. I am also set as an administrator.Cleaned my cache of any unnecessary files.I have also repaired my permissions using Disk Utility, but that didn't solve the problem. I have a 2010 Macbook Pro, 4GB RAM running OS X Lion 10.7.3 with 2 partitions on my hard drive (OS X and Windows 7). I have 15GB free on my OS X partition currently, which may not seem like much, however I have run Photoshop CS5 previously as a trial and other versions of Photoshop and the small amount of harddrive space has never affected the software's ability to create a scratch file.
I can use Photoshop CS5 & CS6 on a guest account that I created recently, which means that the problem I am having is permissions based. Logging into a separate account is a good enough solution for now, but it is incredibly tedious to keep changing accounts just to use Photoshop.
I can't open the program. I have a mac pro with four drives who thought I just finished a successful install of legit academic version previously used by myself only. Production Premium CS5.
Running PSD 12.0.4 (Extended) on a Mac Pro, Mac OS 10.7.3. Plenty of ram; plenty of hard disk space.
I just finished installing a new 1TB drive in one of my bays; I now have (3) 1TB drives total. Initialized the new drive (Mac OS Extended/Journaled), partitioned for Lion, then installed the OS and migrated everything from my primary (boot) drive using Migration Assistant.
After finishing, PSD gives the following error on start: "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available". I can command+option on start, select the boot drive as scratch and set the rest to None; that configuration works (and sticks). However, if I try to set scratch volumes to either of my backup volumes, I get the same error. Additionally, Illustrator can't even see the other two volumes in the scratch disk selector (PSD sees them, but won't accept them).
Here's what I've done:
- using simple disk drive names (i.e. WD1, WD2, WD3)
- verified all drives with Disk Utility
- ran drive diagnostics on all drives using SMART Utility (no problems found)
- reset paramter ram (comand+option+p+r on Mac startup)
- repaired permissions (all volumes - no permission errors found)
can't remember anything as having changed (ie. OS or new apps/settings). I get the "could not open scratch file because it is locked or you don't have permission" message and then PS quits.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I've tried deleting the settings file.
I recently changed the Photoshop (CS6) Scratch Disk choice from the default Boot Drive to one of the other internal drives in my MacPro (OS 10.6.8).
When I restart Photoshop (CS6) I get the message:"Could not open scratch file because disc is not available" and Photoshop will not launch.
I then restart Photoshop with "Command - alt - shift" keys held down (as per suggestion at URL.....)and reset the preferences which allows Photoshop to come back.(Resetting preferences returned the Boot Drive to scratch disk status.)
I have another MacPro that - same OS 10.6.8 and Adobe CS6 - and I don't have this scratch disk allocation problem. What is going on with the one MacPro that prevents me from selecting a Photoshop scratch disk other than the boot drive?
