Photoshop :: Scratch Disks Are Full

Feb 2, 2009

PS CS3

I am trying to crop a JPG slightly to get a specific size. I have set the size in the toolbar of the crop tool and draw the crop mask, but when I try to complete the crop it says "Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full". I have two disks on this machine, one with 26GB free and the other with 77GB free and this is only a 250x970px image. I did several prior crops on the same image among other operations, but wanted to use the exact size on this one since it needs to fit in a rotating banner for a website. I can crop it if I leave out the exact size, but then, of course, I am only guessing at the size.

Photoshop :: Scratch Disks Full On HDD With 300gigs Free?

Oct 18, 2013

I'm working with a fairly large CMYK document, 300dpi 160inches x 38inches. On disk it registers as just under 3.69gigs as a .PSB file, and as 1.53g/18.0g in Photoshop's Document Sizes info panel. I'm using CS6 extended.

I'm at the point where I can barely work with this thing any longer, as nearly any time I attempt to run a filter or make basic transformations, I get the "scratch disks full" error and PS is unable to complete the task. I'm also receiving the same error when attempting to save changes to the file to disk.

The thing is, in my performance preferences I have an external HDD with 330gigs of available space set as the primary hard drive, and am still getting this error. If I switch the primary scratch to a second internal 7200rpm HDD with 60gigs available, I don't have that issue for the first couple of operations, until the PS temporary file baloons to 40+gigs and I start getting the error again, necessitating a restart of Photoshop which of course loses my unsaved changes. I've also tried allocating my two internal SSD drives (Windows 7 and applications) as the 3rd and 4th scratch disks, which doesn't seem to work at all. They both have only around 5gigs free each.

Photoshop :: Scratch Disks?

Jul 10, 2007

I have Photoshop CS3 (and Windows Vista) and just recently every time I attempt to crop, it gives me the error message that my scratch disks is full. I went into my Preferences and put my C: drive as my first choice (which is only about 10 percent full) and my D: drive as my second. I have a new HP with the D: drive being the recovery portion of the hard drive. I have gone in and cleaned it out. I have restarted both Photoshop and my computer. I read online that you can clean out all of the temp files but it did not say where to locate them. I have searched for "#pst" files. I also can't find my "Local Settings" (because Vista still confuses me) to find temp folders. The only temp folders, I can find has nothing to do with Photoshop.

Photoshop :: CS6 Scratch Disks / Won't Open?

Feb 5, 2013

so I got the 'scratch disks are full' message when I tried opening new projects. After googling, I read to just change the location to another hard drive instead of the main one, so I went into preferences, unchecked the C drive & checked the E drive. Now photoshop won't let me open it. I get this message:

"Could not open a scratch file because the fil eis locked, you do not have nexassary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the 'properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file." how do I do this, exactly?

Photoshop :: Scratch Disk Full In PS CS2

Feb 18, 2009

I just put PS CS2 on my laptop today (dell latitude d610 with win xp), and as soon as I started running it I ran into a Scratch Disk Full error... not by cropping or anything big... but just using the pen tool on a 500x500 72ppi file.

I've been using CS4 for the past week or so with no problems, but didn't want to fork out the ridiculous price to keep it past the trial, so decided to go with CS2 as I've used it on another computer of mine and the price was good.

Is it possible I could be getting this error because of old PS files that weren't fully removed? I did the uninstall of CS4 before I downloaded CS2 so ??? I also did install CS2 before but wouldn't allow me to activate it because it was already on another comp.

I also heard it could be because of a lack of memory on the drive I use for the scratch disks, but I have almost 10 gigs free on the drive I'm using as my secondary (c:), not sure about the one I have as primary (startup). I'm using that as primary because it was there as a default, though I'm not sure what it is. And I did try them vice versa as well and still got the error.

Photoshop :: Scratch Full And Updating System

Oct 4, 2012

I'm running into scratch full problems often with my 5 year old system and am not certain I've got it set up properly to know how soon or with what I should update/replace it.

When resizing or sharpening my biggest file for printing, I'll often run into "scratch is full errors", but when I look at the temp file in the scratch disc when this happens, it's only a 4-6gb file. Does this sound right? The drive has 135 gb free space and is a 10,000 rpm 175gb raptor.

I currently use XP64 on a Q9450 on a P35 ASUS mb with  8gb ram (maxed), 256mb ATI graphics , a 75gb raptor for OS/programs, a 150gb raptor for scratch, and data is on two 1TB drives. I have an update to WIN7 pro disc which I will likely do on a 240gb SSD (replacing the 75gb raptor), but am trying to figure if I've got this optimally set up before I start making changes to sort out where to make changes first as I don't have a huge budget currently. I know I'll have to update the whole system very soon, but am trying to decide a route to take.

The file I'm working with (which is my largest so far) is a stitched panorama ~650mb without layers. This regularly sells as a 12x48" print. I'm already looking a making much larger stitched panoramas than this. In fact, I've got the files, just don't have things set up for them yet. (D800 camera needs updated lightroom, capture NX, etc, but want to figure out how to update this system even minorly to keep using for administrative stuff once it's replaced)

I'm looking at putting in some parts that could then be transferred to a new chassis when the time/budget comes. In other words, building it piece by piece.

240gb intel 520 ssd os/programs
480gb intel 520 ssd scratch

Basically with this, I'd just be moving the 480 ssd to a new system and keep the old one going with the 240 SSD (though I wonder if a $99 Crucial V4 (ie sata ii connection) 128gb ssd might be a better investment for something that will stay in this computer/motherboard).This seems overly complicated now that I read it over. Basically it comes down to these two questions:

-Do I not have my current scratch set up properly? Seems weird for it to be full with only a 4gb file.

-would a crucial V4 be a better ssd to speed this system up (and keep going as a second computer later on) then the 240gb with sata iii connections?
