I have 90K items in my PSE11 organizer catalog. I'm running Win8 and I'm getting nervious that catalog size will become an issue. Backing up the catalog is cumbersome since it is 337G. If I need to break it up into smaller pieces, what is the best way to do this? Is there a bridge or link between catalogs?
View 1 RepliesI realize that there is no preset limit in the number of images that can be saved in a single (Lightroom 4) catalog but I need to know that given a well equpped PC (system with 2 sockets/8 cores, 8+GB of memory and plenty of fast hard drive), how many images can be _reliably_, and with acceptable performance, kept in a single catalog ?
So far I have been maintaining 1 catalog per year for my images but creating collections or galories that span over several years has become a pain so I am considering consolidating all the catalogs into one, which would then contain well over 500k photos.
I am a software type and am aware that the LR implementation does not impose internal hard limits on the individual dimensions it deals with but I would like to know:
- What are the sizes of the catalogs that the software is being stress-tested with before it is released (rough numbers would do)
- Is it possible that an internal _incoonsistency_ could be introduced in a part of the catalog that would go undetected (by the global consistency checking) and would only surface when you try to access that area which may not have been touched for many years (in other words is it possible for the catalog to become _partially_ corrupted and yet pass the (checksom-like ?) verification that takes place when the catalog is being backed up ?)
- and, in case it matters, there are mostly raw images, ranging form 10 to 50 mega pixels each (not that these should impact the size of the catalog.)
There is a hack of the registry at URL....Does it still apply to PSE 11?Might it also apply to PSE 12? What is the effective limit on the size of an image? I have, for example, a panorama of more than 300 MB.
Win 7 Pro 32 (4 GB RAM) and a second machine WIN 7 Pro 64 (8 GB RAM)
I'm working on a large image and while the Organizer is fine with it, neither the Editor nor the Full Screen view of the Organizer will work with it.
Currently I have MaxImageSize at 200M, but can't find a similar setting for the Editor, and clearly it doesn't work for the full screen view either, so if there is a setting that enables these functions, that would be useful information.
I have been getting an error message import failed in my organizer. I am now getting a message that the organizer catalog is corrupt.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to restore a catalog in pse organizer. I get an error message saying that I should contact the disc drive manufacturer for the latest firmware before trying again. There is nothing wrong with the disc drive - it works perfectly with every other application. I open the disc drive in the control panel and can see the files I need are there. I have tried copying the files to my hard drive, removed the cd, and tried to restore via the hard drive option and still get the same error message.

Told it to convert catalog, but every time it opens, it starts doing the face recognition process, and promptly crashes. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am upgrading from Photoshop Elements 9 to version 12 and loading it onto a new computer running Windows 8.2. To move the Organizer Catalog I have tried several time to create a backup on an external hard drive from version 9 so i can restore it on the new computer with the upgraded software. Each time i run the backup the process stops and displays an error message "Error encountered while writing files". This occurs when the process is approximately 75% complete. There are 12,326 items in the catalog, the estimated "media size" needed it 142,891.30 MB, i have 339 GB of free space on the external hard drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to convert an Elements Organizer version 11 catalog to version 12 running on OS-X Lion. It has been running for two days stuck at 37% and appears to be cycling through files with the name breeze-xxx.XML files in the BreezeData folder. It appears to be running since the breeze file names change about every 30-60 seconds. Is this normal or should I cancel and try a different approach? I checked the BreezeData folder and there are approximately 57K breeze-xxx.XML files and my catalog has approximately 56K images.

The Organizer just makes things very difficult. How can I turn it off and have a simple directory tree straight out of Windows to locate my images for processing. Paintshop Pro does this very well. I DO NOT need all the fancy bells and whistles found in Organizer.

Adobe Elements 12 Organizer reminds me to backup my catalog about every third time I open it.
So, I did a backup to my Drobo5N.
Every single time, no matter how long I let the backup run, it stops at 96% and OS X 10.9.2 shows the program as 'not responding' so I have to force close it.
My Elements 8 has suddenly stopped generating thumbnails in the Catelog Organiser when more than 4 photos are viewed - how do I cure this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 17,900 photos and videos in a directory structure organized by date (folders for year, with sub folders for month, day etc). Recently, Organizer refuses to display newly added folders in the folder tree. That is, I create the new folder, and rename with a date, at which point it vanishes from the display. It still appears in Microsoft Explorer. It looks like there is some limit on the number of folders you can have in Organizer, but surely that is absurd?
I have a new Windows 7 PC, running on a home network (total 3 PCs). All have (legal) copies of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements. Files are stored on a NAS in a shared directory.

I can manually draw the shape as big as I like, which is annoying and I need to know why it's doing this, plus it would really speed up drawing accurate shapes.
The photos appear to have retained their keyword tag info but all the sorting into sub-categories and categories has gone as have all the album and smart album data.After all - no self respecting huge software company removes user data and functionality - they must just have omitted to mention what I needed to do in their (less than impressive) help files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy co-worker had a dialog box show up that said something about Size Limits for Legacy Drawings. It had two options. The top one said something about when zoomed out you won't see details but once zoomed in you will see them. The bottom option was someting about showing full detail at all zoom levels.
She chose the top one, but now she wants to choose the other. I can't seem to find a variable or even a mention of this dialog box anywhere. How I can switch from one to the other? Or how I can get the dialog box to pop up again?
I don't have the exactly language, so that is way I have been so vague.

1/ On a non-English keyboard, some shortcut keys like [, ] and ~ can only be reached through the AltGR tab, and are therefore useless. Is it possible in CS to make one's own shortcuts for brush size etc?
2/ Does the histogram tool live-update when one uses tools like Levels or Curves?
3/ Are we still met by that backwards compatibility popup when we save?
4/ Do the precise pointers for brushes still hide on greyish works, forcing one to press the spacebar to see where the cursor is?
5/ How well is 16 bits really implemented? Case: Can I, in 16 bits in CS, duplicate an RGB image, switch the copy to LAB, copy the lightness channel to the clipboard and paste this in the original in an alpha or a layer mask or on a new layer?
6/ Do all filters work in 16 bits mode, and if third party ones don't, do they still work in PS? Filters like KPT3 (remember the problems with 7), Xaostools, ..
