Paint Shop Pro :: Effects Can Be Applied To Masks?
Dec 30, 2012This really doesn't qualify as a tutorial, rather it's a reminder that various effects (including distortions) can be applied to masks to achieve interesting results.
Take this somewhat boring publicity photo, for example:

1. Make an elliptical selection, re-position it as necessary, and feather it by 20px.
2. Create a mask from that selection:

3. Apply Effects...Texture Effects...Polished Stone to the mask with these settings:

4. Apply Effects...Distortion Effects...Ripple to the mask with these settings:

The combination of the polished stone and ripple effects works nicely here, since the final effect is similar to the loose strands of her hair style.
I used the KPT Collection's KPT Noize effect to create a nebulous background and added a yellow-to-blue gradient layer above it (set to "Multiply" mode); and a bevel layer style to the text, reducing the kerning after the capital J's to -50. I also applied the Smart Photo Fix to the original photo, reducing the brightness slightly.

Illustrator :: How To Use Pathfinder On Objects That Have Effects Applied
Aug 15, 2013I outlined a bit of text, and then applied Effect > Warp > Arch. What I'd like to do is cut apart parts of the now outlined letters. I tried to use the pathfinder palette, but it applies the pathfinder to old, non-arched shape.

Oct 21, 2013I consistently get this crash 3-5 times a day, if not more. Happens when dragging over images from Windows Explorer and dropping into a PSD. Or if I select color picker. And random other misc. tasks that seem to trigger a crash. It's to the point where I sometimes might have 3-5 recovered PSD files.

Sep 23, 2013I consistently receive this error at least once a week, if not daily when working in photoshop CC. Using W7-64. It is so bad that I have had to change save settings to store every 5 minutes and lose quite a bit of work.

Jan 23, 2008The color of the table is almost pitch black. I have tried for the past 3 weeks to get the table lighted with incandescent, fluorescent, even LED, with 1 source of light or multiple sources, but the lighting is not consistent. I'm thinking to use 1 source of light, say top left corner, take a picture and then I need some kind of tool to read the light intensity on all points of the table and build some kind of mask. Then I can apply the mask on any of my tables and get very consistent lighting. Is this possible in Photoshop?

Mar 15, 2012I want to use screenshots of websites in a web based portfolio. The images should be about 200px * 300px, or so. I'm having a hard time producing consistent results when cropping. I can do a screen shot of the entire screen for all of the sites and change the image size. The issue with this is that the shots are so small that the detail of screenshot is lost. This creates a very low quality image.
I tried to solve this by cropping the screen shot to a only feature a portion of it which would produce a more "artsy" looking image that would show the details more clearly. It was difficult to produce images that were sized consistently. There was no way to know what the exact size of the cropped image was.
Can I define a size for a mask and then apply it, or reverse it, to have a clearly defined size?
Photoshop :: Why 10pt Font Not Of Consistent Size Between Files
Nov 5, 2012I have noticed an inconsistancy in Photoshop with the font size. Today I created three new files, all three were 800 x 600 at 300dpi. I did my work on the images and then added titles to all three. My titles were 10pt font, Times New Roman, all with the same wording. Nothing special at all. In two of the files the font looks the same, in the third one the font is smaller even though it says it is 10pt. I saved them out as pngs and the font is noticably smaller on the one than it is on the other two. I have noticed this issue several times before but did not take the time to research. I have found nothing on this issues. I know it is not a system issues because I have seen this on different machines that I use and my coworkers have seen the same issue. It is not a version issue as it happens in CS6, CS4, and even earllier versions. It is also not limited to 10pt font, that is just what I was using in this instance. It has happened with many other sizes. I am currently using CS6 off the cloud, but I also have CS4 and the same thing happens there. The issue also appears in the CS version (yes we still have stuff that old).

Sep 15, 2013I have an image here, a product on grey seamless, and the rgb values across the seamless vary. In the top left the rgb values are around 200 - 208, in the bottom right the values are around 160 - 180. I need to make the values of the background close to consistent all around, however without just painting in a solid grey. There needs to remain some texture of the actual seamless. The result should be like the second image. Is there a way to achieve this fairly quickly and easily?

Oct 3, 2012I made lots of gifs a year ago, the problem is now I want to edit them, but in order to do so I will have to degrade quality futher as I will have to work directly on these gifs.
I want to prevent this from happening in the future, is there any convenient way to save frames that will compose the gif as well as the text elements in a consistent format that will ensure the quality?
I already tried to save into a PSD file, unfortunately it appaears that the frames are not included into the PSD file, they stay in the original folder.
My method is Open > Image sequence > I do what I have to do > Save as...
Photoshop :: How To Create Consistent Gradient With Soft Edge And Filter
Mar 14, 2011Im using photoshop 6, and Im trying to apply an effect for a banner photo, that will be consistent for other banner photos of the same size.As you can see the gradient (which contains the text) starts with a grey color then transitions to white. The right edge that meets the blue sky isnt a hard edge but rather a soft edge.
Im not sure how to create that soft edge. I used a brush in this case, and as you can see, the line is uneven.Also I believe the Filter used here is Ripple or Ocean Ripple.
What are the correct steps would be to create that effect, so that I can use this consistently for several photos.

Dec 5, 2012I've been doing a lat of conversion lately, and I'm seeing pretty inconsistent results when exportinig AutoCAD geometry through FDO into SQL Server Spatial. I'm using Map 2012 with current sps on Win 7, and SQL Server 2008 R2 - using a local instance on the same machine as AutoDCAD.. I have a large drawing (200k objects), and I have several small OD tables attached to most objects. We are pushing those into SQL Server through FDO (Export to FDO connection) and I get pretty inconsistent results on the number of objects for example, out of 788 polygons, 436 will convert. I delete the objects from SS and try again, and it usually takes at least three times for the export to be complete. It seems to be inconsistent and of course, there's no error notes thrown out anywhere. I find I have to pull counts of all the objects before starting conversion on a drawing so I can keep tabs on it.

A fellow photographer tested the same on Windows 7 and gets expected results.
I saw what appears to be the same issue in a thread from april 2011, but that thread died without a solution.
Is this a bug in the Mac version? Does it have to do with the ppi and is LR4.1 actually doing it right?
Xara :: Consistent Default Page Size
Feb 5, 2011I have just switched to using Xara Photo and Graphic Designer 6 for my graphics design needs. Is there any way to create a default page size so that no matter when the program is opened it will always open up to that particular page size?
I am used to working and creating on a full "blank canvas" or pasteboard, rather than using page sizes that Xara seems to prefer. Every time I open the program I have to return to page options to re-set all of my workspace parameters and it gets frustrating after awhile.
For example, my preferred page settings are as follows: Page Size=A0 (which provides me all white space to work in); Outer Margin=0in [8in is always automatically pre-set by the program]; and I always choose Landscape, but the automatic pre-set is always Portrait.
There should be a way for the user to control how the workspace appears each time the program is opened, but how to make my page settings "once" and then have those settings be the default from there on out. It's just time consuming to go into Options every time I open the program and have to re-set everything all over again.
Maya Modeling :: Units Setting Not Consistent
Aug 27, 2013I'm having trouble with getting my polygons to be the same sizes. My units are set to inches but for some reason when I build a cylinder it is way larger than the scale of a cube, even though the x,y,z inputs are identical.
The cube's measurements are: x 10 y 108 z 10, as are the cylinder. As you can see the cylinder is much larger.

I thought erasing the heavy text and copying over the text that was printing correctly would work but stubbornly it still prints heavy. Mar 29, 2012I've been having the issue with code set style and making the section view to look the way I want. I created a new code set style and it shows perfectly the way I want in the assembly. When I create the section views, I specify the sections to have the same code set style, but for some reason, it shows up in a different color.
I provided an example showing the fence line as an assembly and in section view. For "mysterious" reasons, the color is different in the section view than in the assembly. And I've checked many time in the section view properties and assembly properties to make sure that both are displaying the same code set style.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Stress Analysis Results - Movement Not Consistent
Dec 16, 2011I have a stress analysis result that doesn't make sense to me. I have a flat plate, that is loaded with 100psi equally throughout the surface. I have an array of bolt holes that are 120mm x 109mm spacing. When I do the simulation and look at deflection, I see more movement on the ends. I expected the movement to be consistent eveywhere?
Is this an Inventor issue, or are my expectations in error?
On a side bar, is there a better way to constrain holes than on their edges? I would think that would give errors on the stress levels due to the point (line) contact.

AutoCAD Inventor :: File - Open Dialog / Why Can't We Get Consistent Dialogs
Aug 16, 2012I would like to see consistent behaviour between dialogs. For me, probably the dialog that I use the most is the File >Open dialog. When I do File>Open and browse to a file, then close the file. The next time I do a File>Open, I am taken to the previous path, but the previous file is not highlighted/selected. So, I have to grab the scroll bar and pull it down to get to the file.
Now when I do a File>Open from Vault, it goes to and selects the previously opened file. This is also how Autocad works. Would be nice if Inventor worked the same way.

Feb 14, 2014I installed an action in my PSE 10 It did not work and kept layer styles and photo effects from showing up. I deleted the action--still not showing up so I reset my computer to a time prior to the installation--still no styles or effects.
