Adobe Elements 11 Editor: The MARQUEE for the brush tips aften disappears! The only solution that I have found is to shut the computer down then start up again. Is there a fix for this problem without shutting everything down?

I'm confused by these two brush tips. I have CS2 and in the Edit / Preferences / Display & Cursors there is the Normal Brush Tip and the Full Size Brush Tip. The Normal shows that the cursor corresponds to about 100%of the area it draws; the Full Size shows that it is bigger than the area it draws.
Two questions:-
1. What is the use for this latter cursor?
2. Why does it say in the User Guide and the Help that the Normal "corresponds to approximately 50% of the area that the tool will affect" and the Full Size "corresponds to nearly 100% of the area that the tool will affect"?
Mighty puzzling, although it has already been acknowledged that the User Guides are poor. Is this an example or am I missing something?
I noticed this was a question when CS4 came out; I've just upgraded from CS3 to CS6 so am experiencing the problem decribed in an earlier thread here:

I have an Nvidia Geforce 7900GS card with an old 2006 driver, 8.4.4.0 I tried updating to driver 306.81 from earlier this month and whilst this solved the brush issue, it caused the PC's cooling fans to operate much more frequently (and noisily) than before so I concluded it was not so suitable for my card.
In view of this, should I be trying an older driver, say from 2009 as the earlier post suggests "because that bug was fixed by Nvidia back in the Spring of 2009"
If so, which one?
I'm running XP, SP3 PC has dual core Pentium CPU 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM (3.25 useable with XP) CS6 updated with all available updates.
This happens occasionally-out of nowhere the brush tool stops showing as a circle of specfic diameter and shows as a crosshairs, which does me no good whatever. This goes for all tools using the brush presets-brush, eraser, and stamp. I can't do anything. because I can't see the tool I'm working with. I tried restarting PS, then restarting with trashed prefs. Neither worked. I know that sooner or later it will come back and all wil be well, but meanwhile, the deadlines are creeping closer & closer. The enemy is at the gates.

I'm wondering if I have a defective program because the tool icon disappears when I switch tools and then reach for a new brush size. I have to click on my desktop to have the tool appear on my monitor. Also, is there a way of getting rid of the huge sample idicator that appears when you sample a color?

I've created a new art Brush: New brush>Art Brush> and made my selections and clicked ok. The brush then shows in the brush palette where I have access to use it but then when I close the document and reopen a new one the brush dissapears. Where did it go and how do I get it back??

The panit effects viewport flickers several times per second while sliding the stoke or brush parameters in the attribute editor. It blink once when holding down the Alt button or press the "redraw panit effects view" button in the view port. It seems like it's keeping redrawing for every change related to the parameters, and this problem is just in the panit effects mode.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I purchased Photoshop Elements 12, went through the installation process, and it should be ready to begin editing. However, whenever I attempt to open Photoshop, nothing happens. My OS is Windows 7; I click the icon onmy taskbar, and the cursor shows that it is loading, the icon is highlighted, but then the loading symbol stops and the icon highlight disappears. When I attempt to open a file using PSE, the loading banner appears, but shortly thereafter, I receive an alert saying "Photoshop Elements 12 Editorhas stopped working" and under it, it says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" and the only available option it "Close program." I had this exact issue with PSE 7, and figured that purchasing an updated version might fix this problem. Evidently, I was mistaken. This is a very serious issue, as I am a graphic designer (creating logos, posters, programs, etc) and use Photoshop for this purpose. I have been using Elements for years, but only recently has this problem arisen. This is, of course, infuriating, as I have paid $70 for a program that doesn't even work.

Also when I do a return in text the first letter of the next line is always a capital whether or not I start a new sentence!

It brings up the load bar but then just goes away and I'm still at the same start up. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of, I'm the only user.
