Photoshop :: Dividing A Page Equally Into Halves, Quarters Etc
Jan 31, 2009
dividing a page equally and most importantly accurately in photoshop/illustor/indesign(all CS3) i guess you could think of it as exstablishing a grid.
so to be more specific here are the measurments of my photoshop document:
height: 27.3cm
width: 18.4 cm
so what im trying to do is divde this in to a grid field of 16, ie 4 fields deep and 4 fields high
now what i have tried to do is divide the page in half, so 18.4/2=9.2cm
but the rulers on my page go up in halves so 1,1.5,2,2.5cm so how do i indicate the 9.2 mark accurately. is there a way to make the ruler more accurate?
the same problem goes with the height.
hope u guys can help! ive been wrecking my brains with this one!
also i have some really quickfire questions:
1) should i always work in CMYK and print in CMYK?
2) can someone explain spot color and how to take something to print using it.

Because I will be doing this often in the near future, I need to create an action to precisely divide a LAYER into 4 quarters, in order to easily create seamless patterns. I'm having trouble figuring out how to automate the placing of guides limited to the center points of the selected layer dimensions, as opposed to the entire image's dimensions. My second difficulty is in selecting the quarters; using the marquee tool, etc, the selection tool is NOT snapping to the guides, despite what I have the Snap To preferences set to.
I need to select the pixels right up to the guide line so that I can select the "Make a new layer via cut" and then move the new layers in position to make a seamless tile. Right now, it is selecting a few pixels off. (Annoying!) So until I can figure out how to address these issues, I can't even begin to record an action.
Even if I can't record a general action, due to the problem of different layers having different dimensions, I'd be happy to discover a shortcut to accurately quartering a layer but why I'm having trouble managing the marquee tool. I'm currently trying out the CS6 Beta but usually work in either CS5 or PSE 9.

I have two halves of a rod that I want to join. They're both objects. What's the best way to fill in the gap between the two halves of the rod? It currently looks like this:
Using the LOFT command obviously just creates a surface between them, however, it doesn't become one model.

Let's say I've cut a circle in half, and then placed both halves on either side of the art board. Is there a way I can align them back right next to each other so that they appear as a circle once again?
None of the tools in the "align" window allow me to do that.

I'm making a multiple monitor panorama and need to reverse the halves of the large image - 3840x1200 since my primary monitor is on the right.
So I can precisely select the parts I want since Select Rectangle has a precise mode in the tool options. But move has no precise mode.
Don't we need a precise mode in the Move tool too?
Not sure where to pass this along to the Gimpers, but it's the only thing I've found missing.

I was using PSE6 and just installed PSE12. I work alot with pictures and the option in editor/image to divide multiple photos in one scan does not work. It is pale in print and does not have an arrow like the other choices.
I have a HP PC using Windows 7 and a scanner that worked just fine, Canon LIDE.

I can create a block where you stretch a line and the opposite side stretches equally in an opposite direction but I can't find anything with stretching equally in the same direction.
The block in questions is a door with windows to the side. The door size will remain fixed but as I stretch the window jamb I would like the two mullions to stretch to create an equal stretch.

I have been trying (albeit unsuccessfully) to draw a DB that requires a hole spacing of 16" maximum. The problem with this is that a pair of holes will need to be added or subtracted based on the width while not exceeding this 16" maximum dimension, but maintaining even spacing. I.E., when this block is stretched down, a pair of holes needs to be subtracted and the remaining holes need to be spaced evenly. I have attached the block drawn at it's maximum width and most required holes at this width with stretch parameters for each hole set. The best idea I could think of would be visibility states for each series of holes that would be activated when the block is stretched accordingly but just can't seem to make it work.

I'm trying to create a Dynamic Block of an 3/4" x 3/4" aluminium angle with holes:
Depending on the length the number of holes will vary.
The distance between each holes need to be somewhere between 8" and a maximum of 12".
The holes must be centered and start from 1 1/2" up to 2" from each ends.
Each distance must be not more precise then 1/16" (no rounded off dimensions)
I'd like to simply drag the handle of the linear parameters (No lookup or visibility for 2 hole, 3 holes, 4 holes etc.)

I have an existing mesh based on quads.(Similar to how 'garment maker' generates a flat mesh, but wrapped around my existing mesh while keeping (close to) the same shape.
Is there a way to do that? Most remeshers will generate quads but I really need equally-spaced triangles to reform the mesh.

I am really struggling to get this dynamic block working - It's a plan view on the flight of steps and I would like to space the risers equally between the bottom and top nosing. I was trying to use array but the value (tread going) stays the same... So I need something thath would work just like divide command.
Eventually I need a block with different tread numbers which will be just a matter of creating a few visibility states

In AutoCAD Architecture the project can be divided into divisions [URL] ...... Is there anything similar in Revit? Or is there a parameter, that enables dividing the project into divisions during IFC export? The aim is to have an IFC model with divisions, that are visible in a model tree view (for example in Solibri Model Viewer).

Is there a way to make a dynamic block where I will insert the total length of this “ panel”. Say 3720mm, and that it will divide the “panel” into equal segments with a maximum segment width of 1240mm. ( so with 3720mm that would make 3x 1240mm segments)
Say it would be a “panel” of 5500mm it would be 5 segments of 1100mm, and a “panel” of lets say 3750mm would make 4 segments of 937,5mm.
I made a drawing to illustrate what I mean, A dynamic block for this will save a lot of time!
(here is the example)

Now i am trying to use the hour glass to cut the 3 circles below. It ends up looking like a spider web. In these photos the antennae is 2 shapes and on top of the layers that hold what i have described.

I have the following image above where I'm trying to add color to different aspects of the drawing. For instance, I'd like to be able to add color to the hair (ie the eyebrows and hair on top of his head) and I'm using live paint to do this. The problem is, some of the live paint areas spill into each other, ie the hair spills into the outline of the head, etc. So I'm wondering, what is the best way to go about dividing these areas so live paint recognizes them as two different entities? What I've been doing currently is drawing a line segment, and then using divide below, however this gives me unpredictable results sometimes and I have a hunch there is a better way.

I'm using Inventor 2009.
Imagine a flat, rectangular plate with origin plains located symmetrically down the middle of the plate. Place a component, say a small cube, and constrain it to the face of the plate and the origin planes so that it too is symmetrically located. I now wish to pattern this cube about the midplane and create a total of five instances. I select "Pattern Component" in assembly mode and select the cube. For direction 1, I put in two instances and select an edge of the plate so that the pattern is taken to the left of the midplane. For direction 2, I again select two instances but pick an edge so that the pattern is taken to the right of the midplane. I now should have a total of 5 cubes but I don't. I have 6.
The second pattern is actually a repeating pattern of the first which, in the end, creates too many cubes. Visually, it looks correct because the cubes are placed excatly on top of each other. Numercially, like in BOMS, it is not correct.
Is there a way to avoid these duplications?

The project is to determine to upper 300 acres and 25 square miles of watersheds to determine a point in a stream to comply with a forestry law. The law is explained in the brochure [URL]......... Page two has a simple map explanation. The points to find are the 300 acres & 25 square miles thresh holds in watersheds.
I am working with Map3D 2014. This could be done with drawing polygons, shp, or sdf. The output would be the points in the streams. A stream is from its origin downstream to its mouth at another stream, wetland, lake, pond or ocean. Watersheds smaller than 300 acres get included into the next stream watershed downstream.

I recently downloaded a Trial Version of PSP X5, and one of Adobe PSE11. For my purposes, I find PSP easier to use and therefore preferable. However, in PSE11, a scan of several photos contained in a single file can be "auto" split or divided into individual files, and as such can be edited individually. Try as I have, I have found nothing similar in PSP X5. This could be a deal breaker, as I have numerous old photos to scan and edit, and I find that doing 3 to 5 at a time is a big time saver. Does PSP 5 has this feature?
