Photoshop :: Distribute Around A Center Object
Mar 27, 2008
I am working on a graphic that has a large circle in the center surrounded by 7 smaller circles. How do I evenly distribute the 7 outer circles around the larger center circle. I am using CS2.

I'm sure this is mind-numbingly obvious and I am overlooking it, but when I go to use the rotate tool, the center point of the rotation is defaulting to the center of the artboard, not the selected group of objects. How do I change that to default to rotating on the selection center by default?
PS. This is Illustrator CC (17.0.2) on a Mac running 10.9, if that is relevant.

1. find the attached “Rays on Oval.png” file. (Tried attaching .cdr file but the File Size is 400KB.)
2. I would like to Repeat / Duplicate that Black Color on Outer Path of Oval Shape. (Like shown in the Yellow versus Black. The Yellow is a Circle and the Black is from Star Tool)
3. I think the Best Bet would be to Link the Rays to the Outer Path of Oval Shape.
4. I need the Rays and Oval as 2 Different Objects so that I could Change the Color Scheme.

This is my original drawing in Photoshop CS5 for Windows:My goal is to quickly center two objects while keeping one of them (blue rectangle in my example) in place:
If I follow the standard procedure (select both objects, align vertical and horizontal centers), both objects are moved to the center of the drawing:So the blue square has lost it's original position which is not good.

Inside 3D Studio max, its possible to adjust the pivot center of an object to anywhere in space. So if for example, I've got a sphere in my scene and I want to have a bunch of cones spin around the center of the sphere (to create the basic shape of a sun graphic) I can just change the cone's pivot to be in the exact center of the sphere and then when I rotate and copy the cone, they will all be perfectly centered around the sphere.
Tying to do this in Photoshop however is proving rather difficult. Since the triangle representing the sun's rays is smaller than the circle representing the sun, I can't move the traingle's pivot to match the center of the sun because the bounding box for the transform isnt big enough.
If I duplicate the sun and merge the triangle and the sun together, the merge action re-adjusts the pivot to be in the center of both objects so its no longer in the correct center of the circle. I can however move the pivot point to the approximate location now because the bounding box is larger, but I don't need the approximate location, I need the exact location.
Is there a way to move the pivot to a specific coordinate? Or am I going to have to move everything onto a perfectly square canvas and snap everything to grid lines?

Is it a bug or what? Why can't I centre an object to the page in DP6? It's always off by about 5 pixels. I have to manually adjust it every time.

I have not been able to find a way to spin an object about its center, smearing it out in the process.
I'm trying to make a circle which is white in the center, falling off to black on the edges, following a specific contour. I could use Gradient to make a rectangle and cut a narrow line out of the Gradient which I would then like to spin-about its white endpoint.
It would make a nice effect to take any image and rotate-while-smearing around some point and through some angle.

I'd like to put a circle dead center around an object. How would I do this?
Also (related), I'd like to at times use Corel Draw more like a CAD program and specify the radius when I round corners on a rectangle or give dimensions when I create a new shape (line, rectangle, circle etc). Is this possible?
And in CAD, many times I'll use the divide and break feature to align centers some objects created along a straight line. Is this possible in Corel Draw?

Envelope distort to center of the object only possible?
How to achieve the effect shown in the image? If not with Illustrator what software can do this effect?
It's like an envelope distort but like the object (small circles) is not entirely wrapped into the envelope.
I tried moving the corners of the applied envelope towards the center of the object but it resizes the entire shape along with it...

Im trying to cut out the centre of the letter R below. Normally I break curve apart, select the centre, and trim it from the outer. I can then select the centre piece and remove it. As you can see, this has worked with the letters P & O. When I do it with the R it seems to have worked, to the point where I can even select the centre and remove it, but when I put it back over a coloured background, it is still white.

When I'm changing views (top, left, etc.), most of the time I have to press the shortcut followed by "Z" to show the object I'm working on, this is a pain and doesn't work well when I'm editing something because it will also zoom to whatever is selected, and not the entire object.
So, is there a easy way to change views without having to pan and zoom every time?

I'm trying to create a border similar to what you see here:
But I need it to be oval shaped. I tried using the blend tool, which works great around a circle but on an oval, the objects get scrunched together at the peak of the oval. How do you rotate and evenly space the objects around an oval?

I have an illustrator file with several hundred layers and objects. If I select an object for targeting in the Layers panel, is there a way that I can get the object to be displayed in the center of the workspace. I currently have to zoom in and pan the document to see the object.
Likewise, if I select an object in the document, is there a way to have that object appear in the center of the Layers panel? I currently have to scroll the Layers panel to find the parent layer, and then drill down through the child layers until I find my selected object.

I have CS5.
In InDesign, I can select an object anywhere on the page and when I enlarge the view with Ctrl-+, the object is centered on the computer screen.
Illustrator does not do this. But, is there some kind of setting I can click on to make this happen? It would save me a lot of time to have this feature turned on, if it exists.

I'm trying to extrude multiple faces, and then get them to rotate along the center of the object so that they can all sort of have the same angle radiating from the center. In the picture, the one on the top Left is my starting point. I would like to rotate those faces, for example, so that they will all be flat (picture on Right which I achieved through vert snapping to grid) but the only results I can produce are the 2 small pictures on the bottom. =(
Is this possible?

Is there a possibility to distribute a batch task between several computers? For example rendering raw files into jpgs and applying actions.
On bigger events it would greatly reduce the waiting time for the processed files. Instead of one computer working for two hours, maybe two machines could do it in an hour?
Of course I can split the files and start two separate batch tasks on separate computers but a task server would make the workflow easier. 3D and video software have a lot of options for distributed rendering..
