Photoshop :: Diffuse Glow Filter
Nov 7, 2004
I'm try to add a Diffuse Glow filter to an image and it's not working as expected. When I increase the Glow Amount slider, the high lights in the image turn BLACK, shouldn't they get brighter? This happens with all images JEPG's, TIFF's and PSD's with layers or not. I'm running PS7 on a PC. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for your help!

I cannot seem to find the Diffuse Glow filter in CC. I have been using PS for years and have always seen it under the filter, distort, diffuse glow.

trying to apply a diffuse glow, but the resulting effect comes out all grey/blue. I've tried the effect on multiple different image types (jpg, nef, etc.) and the results are always the same. I know what diffuse glow is supposed to look like.. and this ain't it!
I was editing on a different windows machine and I applied the diffuse glow. It worked fine. 10 minutes later, I tried to apply the filter again to the same image (started over), and again it gave me the ugly gray/blue look.

It seems my 'diffuse glow' filter option has somehow inverted itself and now read everything as black. I have tried to eveything, even re-installing the program to reverse the mistake, but to no avail.

When I open the Diffuse Glow filter, it appears as if inverted, or negative. What I expect to be a light halo effect shows up as a dark glow. How can I reset this filter to show the normal 'light' halo effect?

I am still on PS CS saving up for Creative Suite production Premimium CS3, anyway, When I add a diffused glow to a picture instead of the white glow I get a grey color cast with lots of noise where the glow is supposed to be, this also happens when I try to change a color. When I change say red to blue all the red areas of the picture turn to a grey noisey, ugly color. Any ideas why this is happening. This is happening to all my pictures.

if I apply the Neon Glow filter to a picture with a background, for example: red text on a black background, I get a really neat looking glowing effect around the edge of each letter. But when I try it on the same text on a transparent background, it doesn't work. Is there any way to get the letters to have a slight glow on transparent? My goal was to create glowing text labels to be transparent .gifs for the menu on my website.

I'm created a photo of an alien boy being beamed down to someone's house in a cone of bright white light from a flying saucer, and I tried to use the "layer style" to create the glowing light effect in this cone of bright light - but somehow I'm not getting the "glow" effect that I got before. I'm stumped as to what I'm doing wrong/not doing right to produce the glow effect. In other words, the outer/inner glow effect no longer works. Can anyone please help me?

I've enclosed an original picture and my 3d scene. the problems lies in the shadow on both sides of the lamp which is too hard edged. and normally, there is a grid right beneath the cylinder bulb, but when applying that grid in 3ds max the whole scene becomes speckled. must have something to do with the light being blocked by geometry.
how to achieve a soft shadow as shown in the ref pic?

I'm modeling in mudbox 2012 and extracting my normal maps for 3ds max and my diffuse and bump as a PNG.In 3ds 2012 the normal map seems to be changing to the overal brightness of the diffuse, changing it noticeably darker.
It's been ruled out that its not a bump map that's causing so its definitely the normal map.

Trying to do a normal projection painting and getting darker skins. I tried to turn on and off the gigatel to see if fixes the problem but still gives me darker color. Tried using Ptex to see if this fixes the problem, problem still remains. None of the techniques I tried worked...
When I use the standard mudbox base head, no issues. It paints as it should. When I open my sculpted mesh portrait, same workflow and it gives me much darker image as the video shows.

I tried to use the lens flare filter in Photoshop CS6.While the lighting effect is interesting, it introduces ugly artifacts like blue or orange blobs (which are supposed to be the reflection of the diaphragm, but do not look anywhere close to that, but instead are just cheesy looking blobs of color).
In the "movie prime" setting blue lines are added which have nothing to do with lens flar.On top of it, the preview is about the size of a stamp. Any way to use the filter without getting these artifacts, or is it - what I assume - just a useless toy filter, that has probably been dragged on for years and years because it's always been there? What do you use to create a lens flare effect? Are you just building it from scratch with brush work?

I've deleted my PS preferences and restarted, and I cannot get this filter to do what is was just doing a day earlier. It doesn't matter what the foreground/background colors are, nor does it matter what the resolution of the file is. I've experimented with every variable. The filter effect changes the filled layer to a solid color of the current foreground color. No lines, dots or circles at all.
I'm trying to make lines in a filled layer, or a rasterized text layer.Adjusting the sliders has no effect at this point, but the other Gallery filters DO work, oddly enough.
I've used this filter effect many times over the years, and it just started acting wonky. This is PS CS6, on Mac OSX 10.8.5.It seems to be unpredictable or temperamental. Is there a reasonably-priced plugin that will create lines that are completely adjustable?

I'm interested in how to get that "glow" that I see often in portraits. Is this a type of blur? Here are two examples of what I am speaking of. The second photo is a lingere photo in case you would prefer not to view it. The first is a headshot.

I have Photoshop CS4 running on a 8 gig Vista 64 bit system. When I click on Filters, there is no Extract Filter. I did a search prior to posting and saw some threads talking about not moving files, icons etc from their original folder. I am un sure if anything has been moved. However, when I click on Filters, they all seem to be there (at least not greyed out), EXCEPT for the Extract filter. Any help would be apprecited and if you let me know where the filters should reside I can make sure they are in the correct location.

RE: Photoshop CS3
I am learning to use Photoshop and doing well(ish) I thought, but am totally frustrated with this probably very simple process that I cannot get.
I have one word that I need to give the effect of a neon glow.
So far I have:
1. Filter
2. Artistic
3. Neon Glow
4. Now, when the Neon Glow (100%) window comes up, I cannot get anything to change or do a thing?
Please give me some direction from here.
My word is there, should it be selected? If so whith which tool? etc.

I have a picture I was asked to make for someone and there are 2 images that I would like to have a gold glow coming from, as if there were a light behind it. It'll be on a black background and there's nothing really fancy about it at all, though if I see anything that'd fit in, I might add it ;-)
I'm guessing that I'll need to place sumthing gold behind the image and add some sort of effect to the border, but I'm not really sure what that'd be.

I want to put an outer glow round the policeman. I've been trying but I must be missing one important step. I can get a glow or shadow rounf the whole square frame ...... but I want it just around the figure.
I've tried uploading the image here .... but it keeps tellin me that my photo (which is only 45kb) and is called McFadden.jpg is not a valid file type. The photo is a plain white background with an image cut out of a policeman on it. I want to put the glow around the policeman.

I'm trying to create a triangle with an inner glow. However there's a catch, I want the inside of the triangle to be transparent. The idea is that I want to be able to save this as a png and then place it on top of any background to get a triangle with an inner glow filled with the same color as the background. My problem is that no matter what I do I can't get an inner glow without a background.
