Photoshop :: Dark Grey Background Instead Of Transparency
May 7, 2012
Windows, PS CS4. I'm trying to erase part of an image such that there is nothing there. However, when I erase the part of the background layer (I have no layers below it, and none above occupying the same space), I do not see the chequered transparency pattern, but dark grey. This grey also remains part of the image as if it were a colour rather than being transparent. To be specific, it is the white between the borders of a comic I am trying to erase..

as a user of pse 6 I 'm used to work with darkgrey background in the organizer.
This works perfectly for quickly assessing brightness and contrast of pictures.
In pse 10 however I could not find any button to change the preset lightgrey background colour to darkgrey.

My friend has taken some engagement photographs and unfortunately the couple have dark hair and the background is also dark - I think you can see her problem with the photos. Somehow the background needs to be lightened and neither of us know how (we both have Photoshop 7)

All of my navigation menus are completely blacked out with dark grey text on top. Certain menus are completely blacked out and show absolutely nothing. When I mouseover the text becomes a readable grey but it makes actions much more difficult as I have to mouse over every single option.
Are there any solutions to this bug?I have uninstalled/reinstalled, updated ATI drivers, contacted support, etc and have found no solution.I am using purchased Photoshop CS3 & I am running Win 7 x64 w /i5-3570k w/ ATI Sapphire 7950 Here are some screenshots of what happens:

I am trying to make business cards in Adobe Illustrator using the Pantone Color System. In my logo, the middle circle is a dark grey: C20 Y20 M20 K80. I can't find a suitable Pantone grey that is this dark. Pantone 425U is too light. Also, which Pantone Black is the darkest?

I am trying to edit some pictures that a customer of mine has taken. They are of silver utensils wrapped with beads and the way she has taken them, there is a huge shine reflection on them. There are 25 current pictures all using the same dark background.
I have fiddled with the adjustment brightness and highlights, but they come out looking gray and fake, so I removed those adjustments.
I tried using burn the bright spots and then dodge the coloured stones to bring back some luster. No matter what i am doing, it no longer is a silver utensil, it is a picture that has been poorly edited, and that simply isn't okay.
Here are some examples of the raw picture I am working with [URL] ...........
I need to reduce the glare/reflection and the stones need to be vibrant.

Implement the option to change the transparency grid colors, even if it's only a simple toggle between dark/light grids. It would work when drawing light objects.

I have this stupid problem, I want to make a header for my new site... In this header I use a cool font and do some bevel and emboss on it. The background of the header is transparent because my site has a background with a motive. But when I save the header and place it into my page, there is a white border around the font, how can I solve this? I already tried with brushing some black around the font, this helps, but you can still see it has been done the wrong way.

I have just installed Photoshop CS4. When I try to use the spot healing box on a dark background, the target area is invisible as the target circle is black, as is the background. It's like trying to find a black cat in a coal mine.
What can I do to see the brush target circle.

I just installed CS4 and I now find that I canonly see a single image at a time, as there always seems otbe a big gey background surrounding the current image. A right click allows me to chnage the useless background color, but not get rid of it. I can't drag from the corner to reduce the size. How do I make it so I can work with and see more than one image at a time?

Why bother providing an "Antialias Guides and Paths" setting if it's going to look this bad when projected on a dark background? Yes, this is with that setting ENABLED:
It's not quite as unacceptably nasty when the path is dark on a light background, but it's still a good ways off perfection! If Photoshop should not be held accountable for being pixel-perfect, what application should be? This is not even close enough for government work!
Here's the PSD file with which you can generate the above if you'd like to reproduce the appearance shown...
[URL]
Edit: Just to show that it can be done well, consider these two images, which I did by stroking the path in linear space.

Hi, I just started working with Photoshop, so I might be making some stupid rookie mistake...but I can't figure out what the hell could be wrong.
When I draw something on a dark background it just vanishes as soon as I fill the area with the paint bucket!
If I have a dark grey background, and draw something in black using the brush, when I try to fill the drawing, for instance green, with the paint bucket, the entire picture becomes green!
It was as if the drawing was never there.
At first I thought I had some wierd setting on my brush, but the wierd thing is that this only happens when I use dark.

My default background/work area has been transparent--displayed as a light gray and white checkerboard--forever.
Today it changed to dark gray. It's still transparent, but it shows up on the screen as dark gray. I want it back the way it was. I've read all the solutions on the Adobe forums (using the magic wand, or the background eraser, etc.) and none of them work.
I can't help but think I inadvertently changed some setting,

So when you're zoomed out, you can see a grey background around your canvas. But when you're zoomed close enough, so that your canvas is bigger that your screen, you can't see that grey background, since the canvas become the borderline of your working space.
But is there a way to make that grey background visible even if i'm zoomed in?
Example: I'm drawing grass and I would like that my brush strokes begins outside of the box, while being zoomed in.

I've been taking 2000 head shots on a white background. While I was shooting I saw a grey area in the upper left corner showing up. At the moment of the shooting I didn't have the occasion to change lighting.
Removing this one by one works perfectly using the dodge tool and removing just the highlights. Is there a way to do this in a batch? (since the heads are all very centered in the frame and the grey area is always in the upper left corner).

Still trying to learn my D7000
Yesterday, I took a number of experimental shots (a red phone cord lying on a white background). The white background (an artists white canvas lying on the floor) was well lit from above using 5600K lights.
The shots were all taken using auto focus, auto exposure, etc and in the view finder everything appeared to be correct, but on later viewing the photos, the white background appears to be grey.
I have attached a sample image to show the grey colour.
especially when using the auto mode when taking the photos.
I am not concerned about the picture quality only the grey background and I did not undertake a WB as I thought that this was part of the auto mode when taking the photo. the shot was taken by half pressing the shutter release butto to ensure that everything was OK then continuing to fully press the button.

when I bought PSE 8 for Mac some years ago I found a function/preference to remove the grey background of PSE, so I always can see the desktop behind my opened images.
Now I bought PSE 10 and can´t remember the name and place of this preference. I don´t want the grey background and want to switch between PSE and the desktop just by clicking anywhere on the desktop.

How I extract a reasonably dark image from its background? Below are two identical images with white background.
But the preset color of my vistaprint business card is light blue. So I just want to paste the image from the links below onto a light blue business card if that is possible.
[URL]........
[URL]........
This is almost 100% what I want: [URL].......
but for some reason the resolution from this home made job comes out terrible at Vista Print so I have to do the card writing on their site and give them a better resolution image which the one in the first two links is.

I have an Imac with Mountain Lion, CS5 and have just replaced my Epson R2400 with an R3000. Now the white background round the image is covered in small cyan and light grey dots. If the image fills the paper, then the margin is affected. But when trying to proof colours I am going through loads of paper as I cannot now print a smaller image on a larger piece of paper, then re-feed the same sheet through with another small image as the paper is now pale blue.
The R2400 was fine for proofing, as the image alone would print and then the printer fed through the remainder of the sheet without printing, leaving the rest of the paper white. I understood from that , that it was most likely a Photoshop issue and some sort of conflict with the Paper profiles. But, I have checked the profiles on my Mac and they are all version 2 profiles. I note that the few profiles that do work without the blue colour do have 'bkpt' in their profiling and that the ones for the paper I actually do use and in fact the majority of the profiles, do not contain 'bkpt'.
