Photoshop :: Curved Spacetime Image
Nov 6, 2008
I'm trying to create a solid black-line-only (clear background), maybe with some grey scale, image of curved spacetime; a good example would be that field around a black hole.
I can just invert that one, and it looks pretty cool.
But, I would really like to take this image and transform it, keeping only the black lines and maybe some grey scale.

I know that this is probably really easy to do but Im just not having much luck with it. I want to crop and image but give the image a curved border and then add a coloured edge to that border.
Ive tried using the rectangular marquee tool and applying a stroke to the end image but I am just not doing things the correct way as it doesnt seem to work out properly.

How to create a flow arrow label for a feature line that parallels the curve?
I've a vague notion that this could be done with a dynamic block and a few fancy expressions. I'm comfortable with expressions, but I've never used dynamic blocks at all, so I wouldn't know where to start.
To be clear, I know curved text is possible, but I'm looking for a curved line (ie an arc) that would look 'parallel' to the arc of the feature line (ie have the same centre point). This would have to be dynamic to allow for different radii and for flipping to the left and right side of the feature line.

Having a time getting ribs to align 2m below top of ridge beam, and connect to curved wall below. I created one, then arrayed, but the radius changes at each 2.5 degree interval. I don't think I should have to calculate the % radius change to get the beams to do this. Some constraint button maybe?
Not sure if editing a wall profile is the best way to model this, but it's working.

I want to extrude a big number of pillars to a rather complicated surface and that works out fine. But each end of the pillars warps around the surface and I want them just to go up to it and stop with a resulting horizontal face.

I have attached the layered image (reducing opacity so you can both template and image). The vendor provided me a flat template, not a path, to do my artwork. As you can see I need to arc the image without distorting to fit a cup template. I am more comfortable in photoshop but I can export to AI if necessary to complete which appears what I need to do via envelope distort from what I keep seeing. However, the template provided is not a path. I tried to trace template shape manually with pen tool and use envelope distort to arc my image to conform but it looked very distorted and no even close to what I was trying to achieve. I tried to do tradition arc warp in photoshop but it still seems to distort proportions.

I do a ton of rendering for my work. We have many curved surfaces within our product line. My problem is that, A lot of times my materials (jpeg's) warp and blur when added to a curve. My guess is it has something to do with the UCS orientation because if i rotate the curve to be parralell with the current UCS, the material shows up how it should, Until i change the UCS back to world.
Same Image material, Surface on left is curved and surface on right is flat. Warp.jpg

I am trying to create a puzzle from an image but I am having some trouble with the edges of each puzzle piece. Basically in short what I am doing is this.
1) I load my image in gimp (image layer).
2) Create new white layer (puzzle layer).
3) Use Filters -> Render -> Pattern -> Jigsaw...
4) From the Jigsaw windows I select; Bevel width; 0, Highlight; 0, Jigsaw style; curved.
5) I then select the white area from the puzzle later, copy this area from the image layer, and paste this on a new layer (piece layer).
6) I duplicate the piece layer (duplicate layer).
7) Paint the piece in white in duplicate layer.
8) In duplicate later I select Filters -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur
9) In piece layer I select Filters -> Map -> Bump Map
10) I select the duplicate layer as layer.
My problem is that the edges look really bad. Is there any way how I can make them look better? That is, not so much crippled?My aim is to have each puzzle piece in a different layer since I have to save them in different files. I checked several tutorials on how to create puzzles but all give me similar results.

I am currently working in a facade that has a stylized gondola on it. The gondola has curved walls for the sides, and I need to have the curved cut to give it the shape. The tools I know are for straight walls, not curved. and the Opening/wall makes a squared opening, not curved.

I am working my way through both Martin Evenings "PSCS for Photographers" and Barbara Obermeiers "PSCS for Dummies" (thats me I think) and I'm really struggling to understand curved paths.Does anyone know of a site that explains them in very basic terms i.e. kids stuff?.
As I understand it when I drag from a straight segment to create a new path for a curve and release the mouse and I should get an anchor point and one direction line and one direction point,but all I seem to get is what appears to be a tiny plus sign at the end of the line.

Is it possible to draw a curved line, preferably with arrows at one or both ends? Lines drawn with the freeform brush are too jaggedy; I'm looking for something with intermediate handles that will make smooth curved leaders for text annotation of features in photos.
I've figured out how to make paths...what I'm trying to do is make a line that follows a path - without having the program "fill in" the path-defined region.

New to this forum but pretty proficient in photoshop for self-taught.
I've figured out everything I've ever needed to do in Photoshop and Illustrator on my own, but this one has me stumped!
I'm familiar with warping and the other free transform tools, but can't piece this one together...
Assuming I have a grid of icons equally sized and spaced, how can I make my image curve in 3d with perspective, like in the attached image?

I am attempting to redo this logo for a client and cannot seem to find a simple way of getting the circles to slightly get bigger each time and then follow an arc round.
I have tried messing with paths and then attempted to just do it manually/freehand but it just doesn't look right. Surely there must be a quicker simple way? Any ideas?
