Photoshop :: Centering A Pattern In Layer Effects CS5
Jun 4, 2012
is there a way to center a pattern sample in Photoshop in layer effects? If I scale the pattern it doesn't seem to allow me to center it, it just grows it left to write and as a top to bottom expansion.
Same issue with making a selection and filling it with a pattern. The only way to get a single copy of the pattern is to use EDIT/FILL, then crop it via selection. But I want to get a single sample of the pattern block via a layer effect fill.
I am centering a layer with a smaller photo, with a larger background color layer - no biggie, done it many times with no problem...however for some reason when I center horizontally now, it is off by about 3/16th's to the right. I have set up vertical guides, sized the photo layer so both sides are on the side vertical side guides to make sure, selected both layers then do the horizontal centering....still off.
I have found that when I use the Layer Styles on one layer and then make a new layer or select a shape that creates a new layer that when I go to add Styles to the new layer/new shape the previous layer is affected by how I set the Bevel & Emboss, Direction, Altitude, Drop Shadow etc etc.
For instance, let's say I have a ...
BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.
How I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?
I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.
I have a Dell Laptop/Windows 7 Home Premium that's a 64 bit
I'm working with Photoshop CS6 Extended and in the last two days have started to have problems with some files. One of the main layers gets a strange pattern over the top of it and at closer inspection relised that the pattern was infact transparent, allowing you to see through to the background layer.
I have a simple clothing pattern I want to make a 3d Texture from which I can do however what I would like to do is make a layer out of the white background around the template with the marked pattern areas as transparent so after I paint the main template clothing ares, I can place the white background with transparent areas back in as a layer to cover where I paint or fill over the marked template area. Is this possible, if so, how?
I've created a pattern fill layer and assigned a vector mask to it. How do I move the pattern around without affecting the mask? I realize if I want to rotate the pattern I'd need to convert it to a smart object, but if I only need to adjust the pattern location there must be some way to do that without moving the vector mask along with it. A traditional layer shows the vector and raster mask layer with a lock icon, but fill pattern layers are different for some reason.
I guess my question is as follows: If I were to open a tiff file in photoshop, and add layers and effects on that tiff. file, am I loosing any quality or is there no real difference between working with raw files and tiff files?
How would you "rasterize" the layer effects? So that instead of it being the object with the effects on it its just the individual pixels with no effects on them ... does that make sense?
I have two layers.. One is a simple shape with a raised bevel.. The other layer is text centered over the shape with a bevel of its own that makes the text look engraved.. The problem is when I go to merge the layers, I lose the text layer effect.. I have to merge the layers so how can I stop the text bevelled effect from disappearing?
When designing for the web, I often like to give text boxes a thin, 1-pixel stroke of a slightly darker color than the box itself. I've noticed that when using the Stroke layer style options, setting the position attribute to "Inside" and the blend mode to "Multiply" has the undesirable effect of multiplying the border color with the background, instead of multiplying the border color with the box color (see figure 1). This seems like a bug to me. The only way I have found to achieve the result I'm looking for is to create a duplicate shape above my box layer, set the fill to 0%, and then apply the stroke effect to that layer (see figure 2). Any way to accomplish this all in one layer? I know I could just set the blend mode to "Normal" and choose my darker color explicitly, but I want the layer style to be portable, so I can use it on boxes of any color and have the resulting stroke a darker shade of that color.I am currently using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac.
In some earlier Photoshop version, you could edit the contours (looking like curves) that shaped layer effects like Drop Shadow or Bevels. To do this, you opened the contours drop-down library within a style dialogue like Drop Shadow; then you double-clicked onto a contour icon and you got the "Contour Editor", a dialogue looking like a small Curves dialogue.
But in CS6 i find no way to edit the contours provided. I can create new ones, which doubles the last contour activated, and i can add more contours provided by Adobe. But double-clicking on a contour icon only applies this contour and there is no way, it seems, to get to an "Contour Editor".
I'm on Windows 7/64 bit with ample RAM, with PS CS6 Extended.
When frames from the timeline are saved using export video, some layer effects display differently from how the frame looks in the timeline. It seems as if some layer effects are based on the layer effect settings for a different frame (for that layer effect setting) 1 rather than the actual frame visible in the timeline.
With the new features added to the Crop tool I've noticed when you clip and image the remaining pixels "hidden" by the crop still are affected by layer effects. I've cropped an image, clipped it, removed the background and when I apply a drop shadow to the remaining pixels, the edge of my photo has a shadow. Other than clipping first, then cropping away, Is the best solution to set the crop tool to delete cropped pixels?
I have a texture layer in my bevel emboss layer effects applied to a layer. Im trying to flatten the file to get it ready to go to printer and each time I go to flatten, the effect changes and darkens the entire image. I've tried merging the layers, flattening, adding a blank layer and merging down, etc.
Out of options and frustrated. Can someone please tell me how to flatten without losing the texture effect and destroying the integrity of the art?
I have an image made out of a stack of layers of vector shapes, grouped together. All layers have same (10 px stroke) effect. Is there a way to change it all at once, without clicking and editing every layer effects?
Is there a way to commit layer effects? Every time I try and save a jpeg, png, tiff (without layers), etc. the effects disappear. What causes this and is there a way to fix this?
I've used photoshop 7 for a while, I have not found a way to find the center of an image. Is there a way to do that? Such as if I were going to put my sig at the bottem but centered on the image. Without it looking... lopsided.
Any way to create an action that will go through an entire document and deactivate ALL "Use Global" light angles, and set them to 90º? How to automate this process.
As you can see from this screenshot I am trying to use the brush tool to complete the shadow of my planet however if I select the planet the brush tool I'm using does not cover up the atmospheric glow. I am not sure how to select the glow effect independantly of the planet. If I do not have the planet selected then the shadow is applied to all the layers including the starfield layer even though it is completely locked which is very annoying in of itself. So I guess my question is how do I get the shadow to be applied to the planet and its atmosphere but not the background stars. I am using a 3600px brush with 0 hardness for the shadow. System: CS6 on Mac OS 10.8.4
Ok first of all explanation this Is a photo I took of a friend his favourite movie is the matrix (I know dated now) he has an online tag of Gadg3t man all though you will not see it in this pic it is only 10% of the size all of his body is actually like a circuit board which I spent way to much time on luckily I managed to save a jpeg but not the psd file before our bilding power went out I want to add a white inner glow to every little character in the matrix letters not the Gadg3tman part but all those tiny little letters without doing the whole picture again and without doing it all manually with a paint brush I have tried to do a preset pattern and it just looks worse of a way to achieve this bearing in mind I dont have the layers and I cant really add another layer with glow effects it needs to be subtle and constrained within the tiny characters or am I going to have to redo the whole pic again
Let's start with a blank canvas. I draw a straight line down one side of my image using the pen tool (not freeform). It creates the line. I Ctrl/Click away from it to complete the path.
Now I want to add some layer effects to this pen line and nothing happens ................ Can anyone shed any light on why this might be happening?
I have 2 layers, a background image and a round button with a shadow effect.
How can I only export the button, including his shadow, to png ?
I used Photo Impact, and in Photo Impact, I clicked on the layer, I selected "Export object" and the layer (object) was saved to a desired filename (in my case, I want png or tga, with transparency) .
Also, if I have a background layer, a button layer and a text over the button. If I select the button and the text, how can I export them to png (merge them and export them) directly ? Exactly like the case above, but with multiple players.
I recently created a script that reads the layer names of an Illustrator file, and uses the name to identify a swatch to use to pattern all elements on that specified layer. The script works well, and is a real time saver for our mapping staff, but it requires duplicate swatches to exist, where the only difference is their colour.
To improve the script I want to duplicate a swatch and modify its' colour before applying it to a specific layer. I think the only way this can be done is via the "placedItems" command. So the code I'm trying to write looks likke this:
for(var s=0; s<slib.length; s++){ // search swatch library var pat=slib[s].name; // get swatch name
[Code]...
However I'm struggling to find the correct syntax to make this work.
Whenever I've got an image and Im placing text on it, I try to drag it to the middle of my 100X30 Pixel blank image, but photoshop will either allow me to move it side to side, or the top of my text hugs the top of my image, or the bottom of my text has to hug the bottom of the image. I can't just put my text in the center of my 100X30 .
Is there some preset I need to turn off in order to move this text around freely and place wherever. I want to be able to have my text in the center and not have any of it touching any of the sides.
1) I'd like to center certain compotents of my image into sections of the frame. I'm trying to go about this by creating my sections with the slice tool. Then, for any objects within that slice, I select it, but then I'm at a loss. How do I center the objects within my selection, and for that matter, how to I tell it that I want it to be centered in the sliced section only?
2) I'm trying to draw simple lines with the Line Tool, but I get this huge arrow instead of a line. I don't want an arrow, and I only want it to be 1 pixel thick. How can I do this?
Im a total noob to photoshop, but Ive decided to make it my new hobby and am trying to learn everythin about it I can, but the going is a little slow.. Ive been doing good so far, but I have had a proble with centering within selections or images.. is ther a shortcut key to place my selection tool in the exact center of an image? another problem i am having is creating my own patterns.. is ee the pattern maker.. but I make a pattern and cant save it it.. and cant apply it using the pattern stamp.. how dop i make my own patterns?
