I need to enter text using the Type Tool and include carriage returns (I want to choose where to break the line, as opposed to having the program make that decision). At this point I am entering each line as a separate layer. Is there some way to enter my own carriage returns without creating a separate layer for each line? I am using Photoshop 9 on a PC.

No matter what text type, style or font I use, when I'm done with one line and carriage return to the next, the cursor doesn't go completely below the first line and the second line letters are typing half way into the line above it. What I'm having to do is hit reutrn twice. I'm assuming that this is a setting somewhere that I have accidentally enabled or disabled. I believe it's a setting in CS2 because I've opened a Word document and the return works there (I was thinking it was a setting on my machine, but this only happens with CS2).

the reason I want to do this, is because 'tcount' will increment, by the amount specified, for each line of mtext; I have multiple lines of 2 line mtext, and I want to 'tcount' one number in the first line of each instance of mtext.
Now, I know I can do it manually, and in fact I would have had it done almost an hour ago if had, but this issue crops up every now and again, where if there was a fix or work-around to the 'tcount' issue (such as somehow inserting a carriage return) my efficiency could be increased.. for example I could get through renumbering 30 instances of 2 or 3 line mtext across 15 different drawings..
I am trying to replace multiple instances of a multiline text entity throughout several drawings and can’t seem to find a good way to make this come to fruition. (must use carriage return to differentiate between other instances of the text) ie

I need it to replace the text in the instance that has multiple text lines, and not the name where the text is on it’s own. I have seen mention of using “u+000A” as a carriage return in older versions, but I can’t get it to work.

When using the text tool in CS1, shift+enter would give you a new line within the existing paragraph (I believe it's called a soft return?), so it keeps the leading but doesn't add the "space after paragraph". In CS3 this doesn't work and it's really screwing with my ability to create decent web page mockups.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.
Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
the type tool won't let me insert any type whatsoever in JPG or PSD files. I click the type tool and then click somewhere on the image and all it gives me is a dot but no flashing cursor.As I said, resetting my prefs/settings while starting up Photoshop did not help.Another weird thing it does is that when I go to Canvas Size for a medium sized image, it says that the width is 588 inches and the height is 288 inches.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been working in In-design for my classes and everything is working fine. But recently I needed to do some work in Illustrator but when I opened the program up, some of my tools seems to be slightly bugged or something.
The type tool will not make the anchor where I initially click. It creates the anchor around the center point of the type box. This is really annoying because if you have a specific grid, it will not line up to it. I have never adjusted this I don't think because now I have no clue on how to fix it!
Also, my pen tool seems to be messed up. I first create the starting point, but then when I make the second point and try to drag out the node arms to make a curve, it only has one arm! Thus, the curve never is created, so I can't draw with the pen tool, therefore I fail my classes..
i used the word tool to type.. and then i saved my design in .psd format. Sometimes when i open that .psd file, i couldn't edit the word that i typed. y is that so? anywhere i go wrong?

I edit the text.... and then what??... how do I 'release' the type tool and allow others to be chosen?
there's no palettes to click because I've cleared them all.... All I have is the keyboard to tap on.
Currently I'm 'releasing' the type tool, by hitting 'Escape' ..... but then I lose all the new text I've produced....

Every time I turn on the type tool (horizontal) and try to use it, it won't type any letters, and instead when I strike the letter keys on my keyboard, it activates other tools based on their keyboard shortcut letters (such as L for lasso). I have tried resetting system defaults and still have this problem.
Another weird thing that happens is that when I try to type letters, the canvas turns pink, and the letters turn white (this might be connected to the keyboard shortcut for flood fill)
I am trying to make a watermark:
date and my name on the next line. I manage to do the 1st line ok, but pressing 'return' to do the second line - does nothing - or rather my cursor vanishes and the text box boundary is enormous.
I have CS3 and am on a Mac.
