Oct 25, 2011Photoshop (CS3) I can't get the type tool to work like it usually did. I just get a straight line.

View 9 RepliesI have been using PSE9 for a couple of years successfully. I use the horizontal type tool in Edit to put details on my photographs. Today the function has stopped; I have de-installed and re-installed my original programme but the same result - nothing. I can select the horizontal type tool and set the cursor; but nothing appears as I type. A layer does appear and when it is clicked you can see the text that I have typed but it simply doesn't get onto the photograph any more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently requested assistance to find French accent keyboard shortcuts. This I received, but I can't seem to get these shortcuts to work using the Type Tool on a document in CS6. Is there a particular setting that I need? Â
I am working with a PC.  I have even tried using a built in font to ensure the problem was not that the font of choice not having the accents I was looking for.
I am using Illustrator CC under a subscription on windows 8. When I go to use the type tool it does not type. I will click on it, create a box or double click to have the horizontal blinking text line show up. When it shows up this time it is a dot and does not show type on screen. So for example I would be sitting here typing this message, but you would not be able to read it as it does not show up on screen.

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but suddenly my Type Tool can not select type by double clicking or click and drag any more.

I'm using Illustrator CS4 (14.0.0) on a MacPro with OSX 10.6.8.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to create text on a circle path, so drew the circle, went to the "type on a path tool" and clicked on the circle. I keep getting the message "can't create type". I have tried to use the direct selection tool to select the circle first and without the direct selection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.

Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
Â
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
the type tool won't let me insert any type whatsoever in JPG or PSD files. I click the type tool and then click somewhere on the image and all it gives me is a dot but no flashing cursor. As I said, resetting my prefs/settings while starting up Photoshop did not help. Another weird thing it does is that when I go to Canvas Size for a medium sized image, it says that the width is 588 inches and the height is 288 inches.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the Adobe CS6 cloud on September 1, 2012, and my laptop is a Dell-alienware m11x and it has 4 GB of RAM DDR3,it has an Intel i5 processor of 1.07 GHz,and it has a separate Nvidia graphics card.
So I'm pretty sure it should be able to handle Photoshop, but every time I go on Photoshop it makes my entire computer slow and the text key doesn't let me type in Photoshop.
Has any body else noticed that if you create a work path, then create a shape layer (say a rectangle) and type some text on the rectangle (text on a path) that if you commit the type and switch to the Path Selection Tool to edit the path text (position of the starting or end points) photoshop cs6 replaces your previous workpath with a workpath of the shape layer you typed on?
Â
Is photoshop cs6 supposed to work that way?
Â
Windows 8 x64 and photoshop 13.01 new document a create a workpath create a rectangle shape layer and type on the rectangle shape layer path. The orginal workpath has been replaced by the rectangle shape layer path
Once I had completed working on a project in PSE9, I 'saved as' my work.

I then closed the program and went to re-open the file however, the file appears with the extension 'File' and is un-accessible in all of the photo viewing software I have available. The file is however, still a large file - 85MB - which would suggest all of the file information is still in-tact.
Â
I tried opening the file in several different programs, I've tried re-nameing the file, opeing the file properties to change the file type, backing up the file then restarting the computer and program. So far nothing has worked.
I choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.Â
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been working in In-design for my classes and everything is working fine. But recently I needed to do some work in Illustrator but when I opened the program up, some of my tools seems to be slightly bugged or something.
Â
The type tool will not make the anchor where I initially click. It creates the anchor around the center point of the type box. This is really annoying because if you have a specific grid, it will not line up to it. I have never adjusted this I don't think because now I have no clue on how to fix it!
Â
Also, my pen tool seems to be messed up. I first create the starting point, but then when I make the second point and try to drag out the node arms to make a curve, it only has one arm! Thus, the curve never is created, so I can't draw with the pen tool, therefore I fail my classes..
in pse11 when placing the mouse over a tool in the tool box it is supposed to pop up with the name of the tool, mine does not, how can I fix this??

View 7 Replies View RelatedI hit 'F' twice to go 'Fullscreen'... then I hit 'Tab' to clear the palettes. From this point I decide to edit some text and hit the 'T' key to bring up the type tool..... with me so far?
I edit the text.... and then what??... how do I 'release' the type tool and allow others to be chosen?
there's no palettes to click because I've cleared them all.... All I have is the keyboard to tap on.
Currently I'm 'releasing' the type tool, by hitting 'Escape' ..... but then I lose all the new text I've produced....
I'm trying to type text and all I get is underlines with a blinking cursor...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a very weird thing going on in Photoshop CS. Every time I turn on the type tool (horizontal) and try to use it, it won't type any letters, and instead when I strike the letter keys on my keyboard, it activates other tools based on their keyboard shortcut letters (such as L for lasso). I have tried resetting system defaults and still have this problem.
Another weird thing that happens is that when I try to type letters, the canvas turns pink, and the letters turn white (this might be connected to the keyboard shortcut for flood fill)
I am trying to make a watermark:
© date and my name on the next line. I manage to do the 1st line ok, but pressing 'return' to do the second line - does nothing - or rather my cursor vanishes and the text box boundary is enormous.
I have CS3 and am on a Mac.
I cannot use the type tool in Photoshop CC it goes black. Why?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on the "type tool" it won't type because the little square icon at the top will not maintain a color. It keeps turning into a little question mark even after I choose the color type I want. What is the matter with it? The problem is with Photoshop CS5.
