I've just moved from CS3 to CS6. Previously, when working on a layer mask I could make the image active by Command – ~ . This doesn't work now - is there another keyboard shortcut for this? I use a Mac, OS 10.7.4.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
So I am adding a leaf to the waterfall image. The leaf is on it's own layer with a layer mask, and was moved into position without a problem. A drop shadow was added with Layer Styles, but when trying to move the layer again, the mask moved, but the layer stayed behind.

I checked for Auto select, which was off. I unlinked the mask, tested, relinked the mask, and tested again. Same problem. Eventually it started working OK after I tried moving with first the layer active, and then the mask active, and swapping this state about three times. I could not get it to misbehave again after this.

Nothing was locked. Auto select was off. Other layers all moved OK. I can find no explanation, and think of no user error (touch wood).
is it possible to move a layer (with a mask) without affecting its mask position and without precomposing the layer? Much like in Photoshop, where you can achieve this by using vector masks. Let`s say I have a video-layer that has a square mask added to it. The mask is already perfectly positioned in the comp. I don`t want to move or adjust it any further. But I`m not pleased with the framing of the source material. If I`m moving the frame then, the masks moves along with it. Is there a way to get rid of this cohesion of mask and layer?

I'd like to make the layer itself fully opaque, and move the contents of its alpha channel into a layer mask.
(If possible, merging the alpha channel with what I have already placed into the layer mask.)
Is there a way to move a layer mask from one adjustment layer to another adjustment layer (within the same file), without removing the mask from its original layer?Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedLong time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.
Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?
I am trying to figure out how to use an image as a background in some text.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen making a selection, I like to use the magnetic lasso tool. I usually zoom in on the image. I just hate it when you get to the edge of the image and you have to "manually" push the lasso tool against the edge of the image to give you get access to the rest of the image to select it. I always mess up and selection is ruined by the quick movement when more is opened....
is there any way to scroll the image up or down when you get to the edge of it and you still have to select outside of the window...
Maybe there's a key stroke that will allow me to scroll up or down or right or left without losing the amount that I've already selected.
I've been doing a lot of clipping paths lately and I'm considering purchasing Perfect Mask 5 from on One Software to make that process a little easier. It looks like Perfect Mask creates image masks. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

I am having NO PROBLEM creating a masked image by the use of the:
Eliptical tool >Quick Mask >Filter >Blur > Gaussion Blur then tweak up color and settigs as to the proper steps in the course.
When I get my image just the way I want it I CAN NOT "save" to any format that can be read by other picture viewers and still retain the mask.

photoshop opens ok, but when I open a image, only appears a gray window. and when i move the image box, the image appears, but when I stop moving it, it desapears again.. I know I can edit the image, because I can add a brush into it, and when I move the box the image is brushed.. And when I enter the filter gallery the image appears normaly..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have not created a document yet and would like some thought on how to do this: I want to use a continuous tone black and white image which is somewhat close to what would be a 'knockout' but with soft edges - so it gradates appropriately over the background image I want to use, making the black part of the image used as the mask become much of the effect of a gradient mask: the background image shows through whereever there is the 'black' and 'tone' of the image.

my first thought is to create a layer mask and then paste the black and white image onto that, but I'm not sure if that will work to accept the 'soft tones' of the image and work appropriately. What steps I should take to make this effect work?
I've just started using PS Elements 10 again after not having used it for some time, and I've forgotten a few things. When I paste an image which I've selected from another image (image A) into a layer mask for image B, the image A selection appears in black and white. I opened a .dng image in LR and then opened it in the Develop module. I clicked on Crop Overlay and then on the ‘As Shot’ drop down menu (the lock is closed) and cropped to 11 x 17 and clicked ‘Done’-.
I click Cntl-E and the image opens in CC. There I click on Image > Image Size and the Image Size is 13.288 inches by 20.533 inches.

Why does the image size change?
I believe there is a menu to control the size of the image and I've looked everywhere I can think of in LR and CC, I googled various descriptions and I checked two of Scott Kelby's books, but I just can't figure out how to keep the image a consistent size when moving between LR and CC.
I run Photoshop Cs6 and this has just recently began, after it has been working fine. After placing the image I would go to select my tool to edit the picture and it crashes.
I can place the photo just fine its always afterwards when I try to do something to it dose it crash, its like the smart object is protect it from editing as the moment I click on any thing even to merge visible it instantly crashes.
I am still able to open the pictures and edit them this way with no problems, its just after they are moved onto a different canvas dose the problem emerge. I run Windows 7 Home Premium

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a document that i had made a long time ago, i have updated it and changed the scale and moved different images and deleted layers and so on, this is all fine in photoshop, see below image:
But when i move the file across into image ready, somehow image ready remembers the previous state of the image and brings in the old rollovers and old layers that correspond with those rollovers, see below image:
My question is, without having to spend ages in image ready tidying up the position of layers and deleting images, and basically doing all of the things i originally did qwith the image, how do i get image ready to open my photoshop document as i have it in photoshop, bear in mind i have deleted all of the slices in the document.
when I select, copy and paste the image it still has the content that I removed using the layer mask.
