Oct 17, 2007I am trying to figure out how to use an image as a background in some text.
For example, I have the word "zebra" using a standard text tool, and want zebra stripes to fill the interior of the letters.

Jul 21, 2004I am having NO PROBLEM creating a masked image by the use of the:
Eliptical tool >Quick Mask >Filter >Blur > Gaussion Blur then tweak up color and settigs as to the proper steps in the course.
When I get my image just the way I want it I CAN NOT "save" to any format that can be read by other picture viewers and still retain the mask.

Nov 19, 2013I have not created a document yet and would like some thought on how to do this: I want to use a continuous tone black and white image which is somewhat close to what would be a 'knockout' but with soft edges - so it gradates appropriately over the background image I want to use, making the black part of the image used as the mask become much of the effect of a gradient mask: the background image shows through whereever there is the 'black' and 'tone' of the image.
my first thought is to create a layer mask and then paste the black and white image onto that, but I'm not sure if that will work to accept the 'soft tones' of the image and work appropriately. What steps I should take to make this effect work?

Mar 12, 2013When I enter into "quick mask mode" and paint in an area on my image that I want my selection to be, then enter out of "quick mask mode". The entire image is selected. It's like a did a "Command A".
Also how do you change the color of the "quick mask mode"?

Feb 20, 2012I created a e-mail newsletter for my company and I would like to downsize it and save it for Web (already sliced anything).The problem is, when I got to image -> Imagesize and resize it from 2480x3508 (300dpi) to 760x1075.
But when I do so many shapes I use as a clipping mask looks very "ugly" around the edges.Some icons look pixelated too. How can I save it with the smaller size without losing it's sharpness?

Oct 3, 2007I've been using Photoshop intensely this year for school assignments, and I'm learning to get around very well. The issue I'm currently having is that it want to make a layer mask that fades from the mask to the image behind, from color to transparent to create a smooth transition.
I've attached a sample image of what I'm trying to do. Just note, I used a very round-about method to get this image, but I want to achieve the same effect with a vector mask.

Jul 1, 2012JPEG's are opening in CS6 (32 and 64) with a partial gray/white mask in place. Resizing usually makes them disappear but they shouldn't be there to begin with. OS is Win7. The files display fine in Bridge and other applications.

Paint Shop Pro :: Save Mask As Image?
Jun 13, 2013I have an image, whose outline is well defined, which I am preparing for laser cutting/engraving. I am trying to find a quick and easy way of creating a cutting path around the edges of the image. Tracing in Corel Draw is not good enough. PhotoPaint will convert the mask to a path but it is not well defined. I can easily create an accurate mask with Paint Shop Pro, and even fill it with black colour, but that is as far as I can get. I have tried pasting as a new image but there is an undeleteable and unmoveable layer created which stops the image being visible. Instead of crisp black image I just get a blank white square.

However, my workplace requires us to use Paint, which doesn't support drawing actions like this (moving and resizing objects). Is there some other way to accomplish this task with the tools Paint does have?

Nov 29, 2010I have a photo and I would like to blur the bottom of the image while leaving the top of the image sharp, similar to limiting the depth of field by using a large f-stop. I created a gradient mask and then used Filters > Blur but it is not working. If I choose the layer that I created the mask on and choose blur, nothing happens. If I choose the layer (background) under the mask then the whole image blurs.

Dec 31, 2012I've had gimp for quite awhile now and ive never come across this problem before. im trying to use the layer mask with greyscale and inverted image just as i always have. but when i go to edit my color i get grey! ive always been able to change colors this way! i know that the mode is set to rgb. im on the correct layer. ive closed it. ive restarted my laptop.
If i click on the transparency part i get a big blob of color as i should. but on the mask it does what its supposed to but in shades of grey. i dont understand whats wrong! it always worked perfectly. . .

Dec 16, 2013I have a rectangle over a larger imported image, and I would like to get rid of the area that the ractangle covers. Clipping mask does the opposite, getting rid of the area outside, and pathfinder only works for paths, not imported images.

Jul 23, 2013I opened a 1024x1024 image in GIMP, and manually broke it up into fully black and fully white sections. I'd like to output a file which is just a simple binary array of 8 bit numbers, such that every black pixel in the image has the value 0, and every white pixel has the value 1. This way, I can open it in my C program and then load the array into memory using the fread function.
I haven't been able to work out how to do this. I need to avoid using any files with metadata in them...And unfortunately, even the ppm format has a handful of characters at the beginning. Is there a way to do this?
