Photoshop :: CS3 Extended Freezes On Startup - Windows 7
May 4, 2012
Recently Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes when I launch it on my Windows 7 (64 bit) computer. The splash screen appears but then it just stops working (usually on initializing Tools).
I have read several things so far. To fix it I tried:
- disabling the TWAIN plugin
- resetting all tools
- deleting the Photoshop preferences file.
- deleting my printer from the control panel (some others said printer drivers could cause it)
I have about 35000 pictures with avg size of 7Mb and use a single catalog to manage these. I created chronological albums by filtering on 6 month time periods, i have about 16 of these. When I created this initial setup, the organizer was working fine. not since then. e.g.:
-When I'm trying to download new pictures from my camera, I can open the Photo downloader program, it detects the camera and the pictures on it, I can set to location to download to, but none of the other settings, like 'Rename Files' and the Get Media button doesn't respond, even though it looks active.
-When I try to browse through my albums, I can select one, but then the application becomes unresponsive and I cannot get it to do anything anymore.
I'm also observing continuous harddisk activity and the Windows Task Manager is showing that is caused by the PSE Organizer.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit, have 8Gb memory, and 2 Xeon quadcore 2.33 mhz processors
I ahve a users who is having an issue wher Illustrator CS6 will freeze up on startup. It displays a message that it can not laod a 39 font. However when I login to this workstation with a different userid, Illustrator opens without any issue.
It crashes before it even finished loading. I haven't even gotten the program to work once. Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled. I have no printer, and I'm using Vista 64.
This is what it says.

experiencing urecoverable crashes (Windows freezes, have to restart the pc) when performing various actions. It seems to be happening only when something is going on in/with the document window, or when any modifications are made to the opened image. Using menus and other interface elements doesnt seem to cause any problems. The crashes usually happen a few minutes after the software has loaded.
While using Explorer 9, it is empty. Anyway, I've switched to compatability mode.
I have this issue with 2 installations of Civil3D 2011-64 bit. I have 2 monitors. When first starting up, while Civil3D is loading, if I move to the other monitor and do any activity with the mouse, once civil3D is loaded, it is frozen. I can't do anything with it and need to use Task Manager to close it. If I just leave the mouse alone until Civil3D completely loads, then I'm fine. Just a minor annoyance, but have never experienced it with earlier versions.
I'm having an issue with Photoshop CS5 Extended. Everything works fine upon start, but when I go into layer style to add effects there seems to be an issue. After making the changes, I'll press "Ok" and the layer style won't take. It stays on that screen. When I go to press "OK" again I get a windows sound as if the okay or any place in the screen can not be clicked (the sound that happens when there is an open window ontop of another window).I am using Windows 7.
Accessing metadata in Photoshop CS6 extended (file info) for any file, raw or .psd., causes application to freeze. I must force quit the application to continue. Application is running on OSX Lion.
CS4 Extended. Early 2008 iMac 24", 4 GB RAM, updated to Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.3 in Dec 2012.CS4 (11.0.2) was working fine with no issues until 2 weeks ago. The startup splash screen loads and displays messages about various tools being loaded....
However, it does not go beyond: "Reading Color Settings...." and I get the spinning color ball if the cursor is over the splash screen and a blue spinning ball when the cursor is outside the splash screen.Have to use "Force Quit" to get out of the program.Adobe Acrobat Reader also does not work. Upgraded from Adobe LightRoom LR2 to LR4 and that works fine!
Here is what I have tried:
Uninstalled Acrobat Reader and CS4 Rebooted the computer Re-installed CS4 (legit copy and have serial #) Re-installed Reader Checked for updates on Adobe site and updated CS4 to 11.0.2 Rebooted the computer Started CS4..... Got to the same step "Reading Color Settings..." and the programs hangsThought that some crucial file(s) in the System may have been damaged/corrupted, so...Re-installed Mountain Lion to potentially remove/overwrite damaged filesRebooted the computer Launced CS4 and got the same results as in step 7 above
I'm attempting to use CS3 on a Dell laptop- 64 bit- Windows 7.
When first installed it worked fine, then suddenly it was non-functional. It will open, but ANY request at all will cause it to freeze. I have to close it through Task Manager. I get no error messages, and when I went in to view the event viewer there is nothing there under Applications.
I've changed the default printer to a non-network but haven't done much else as I don't have administrative privileges on this (work) computer. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that did nothing.
I have a new (cheap) Lenovo Notebook that came preconfigured with Windows 8.
With some effort, I have configured it to have an administrator account and a normal user account.
Today I downloaded the latest GIMP and installed it on the administrator account. The program starts fine (albeit painfully slowly) and seems to run normally on the administrator account. However, in the normal user account, Gimp gets part way through loading and crashes as shown in this image:
what the error message: "The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an usual way" might mean?
I installed Gimp 2.8 for Windows tonight on an XP SP3 system and it hangs for more than 30min when starting (never completes initializing). Gimp 2.8 takes 50% CPU and 184Mb RAM and sits "Gathering Data" with no further progress. I end up killing the process.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled into a fresh directory with no change. I gave up and tried to reinstall 2.6 and get almost the same issue except RAM usage goes up to 550Mb and it sits at the startup screen.
I finally can get Organizer to run by using the new short cut I created but Editor refuses to display anything other than a small gray box on the upper right side of my desktop and a border that is missing a substantial amount of pieces!
I am thinking of purchasing Adobe Photoshop C6 EXTENDED. However, I have an older computer running Windows XP, with an older graphics card (Nvidia 7600 GS). Will the program run on my machine? Especially its 3-D capability?
My autocad lt 12 crashes when I try to copy or cut to the windows clipboard. It only does this in some older drawings. I have to kill autocad and restart. I use copy and pasting between drawings quite extensively. I am desparate for a fix for this I use Windows 7 64 bit.
Before installing cs3 extended onto my new computer, I was needing to know if it is compatible with Windows 7. I see that cs3 is compatible but what about the extended version? It is a Windows Home Premium 64 bit version.
I have installed Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended trial from Adobe.com (Yeah, I am sure it was the EXTENDED version). In the setup it says that it is installing ”Photoshop CS6 Extended” and I could saw that yellow leaves -or what that is- girl in the image. But every time I open the program, it says only ”Adobe Photoshop CS6”,
I have no 3D options displayed and if I go to About Photoshop, it says that it is only ”Adobe Photoshop CS6 (not EXTENDED-as I could see on some youtube videos)”! So, what is the problem? I have a 32-bit system and Windows 8 Release Preview installed. I read that XP does not support 3D, but about Windows 8... Or, it does not support 32-bit systems, it only support 64-bit systems?
PS: here is the image that I saw when it was installing:
Because the new Building Suite Design programs won't run on windows vista, I've been upgrading some of our older computers to windows 7. Most are working fine but having problems with one computer.
Specs of this computer (it's pretty old I know) Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz Asus P5K SE/EPU NVIDIA Quadro FX 570 8gb ram
So I formatted this computer and installed windows 7 64x pro, installed all the software etc. This computer is also part of a domain. Problem now is opening some AutoCAD files on the server, edit the file then hit the x in the corner to close it, we hit yes to save it then the whole computer just freezes. It doesn't happen with all files, just some and I can't work out what the problem is. ALSO when copying some CAD files from one project folder on the server to another project folder on the server it freezes. No problems copying files to the local computer/desktop, just server-server. The graphics card driver is up to date etc.
My brand spanking new Acad2012 cannot copy anything to the windows clipboard...it freezes as soon as I hit enter after selecting the objects I want to copy. The only solution is to taskmanager and kill it.
I've had to go back to using my old AcadLT 2002 in my WindowsXP VM.
Basically my new Sing$2000 SW is useless unless I can copy blocks form one drawing to another.
CS6 Adobe Photoshop Extended (64 bit) installed on Windows 8 will not update. Adobe Application Manager opens with message as shown below. I use Kaspersky Internet Security which I am not very familiar with as yet. I tried to update after turning firewall off without success.
I Have Photoshop CS6 Extended (on Windows 7 - 64bit).
But it does not open my .psd files, only if I run Photoshop CS6 and go File > Open > "and then open the file", it will open, but If I go to the file it self it does not recognize CS6 as the default program or to open it. It tells me it cannot find a program to open the .psd file with. I have tried several times to set the Default Program but it is not even there and if I click on "browse" to find Photoshop and click "open" it does not open or show Photoshop in the Default Programs.
Now I accidently clicked on coreldraw and I don't want my .psd files opening with coreldraw! because I hardly use coreldraw, I only needed it for my studies. When I had CS5 it worked and opened fine, with CS6 the .psd files just don't find Photoshop.how can I fix this so that my .psd files get recognized?
I created a simple layer shape using the elipse shape tool, and applied a color overlay (blue) layer effect to that shape. The applied color overlay doesn't fill the entire shape (see image) making it look like the shape has a very wide stroke applied to it (it doesn't). If I "copy merged" the pasted copy is a rasterized version of the problematic overlay. If I rasterize the layer, the fill then covers the entire shape.
Jpeg below. Shape is black, color overlay is blue. There is no other effect applied. Blend mode normal, opacity 100%. The image upload won't let me attach the layered PSD file.
I uninstalled Photoshop CS5.1 ME (Middle Eastern) version from my 64bit operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium) and went on to install CS6 EXTENDED after a fresh restart (I also deleted remaining CS5 folders in "Program Files' Adobe directory"). The setup went fine. But, when it finished, it gave an error message saying that Adobe Photoshop CS6 didn't install or didn't install correctly. From there, I copied the error report/log it gave out:
Exit Code: 6 see specific errors and warnings below for troubleshooting. For example, ERROR: DF050, DW063 ... WARNING: DF029 ...
Photoshop started fine and worked fine (only used it a bit) after the "failed" installation but, the Update option in the Help window was grayed out (trial version, just to let you know). Is that a limitation to the trial version? Or is it straight up an error?
My question is, what did the error report mean and what could be wrong with my currently installed version of PS? BTW, I didn't use Mini Bridge yet, although all of its files are present in the Program Files directory for Adobe.
Just installed CS6 on my new workstation and Photoshop; it freezes upon opening.Every other program I have installed has worked flawlessly, including the rest of the CS6 Suite and Lightroom 5.Both Windows and the Adobe Suite have all available updates already installed.Computer is a new HP Z420 Xeon Workstation, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 16GB Ram.
I have been using Photoshop Elements 4 until I just purchased Photoshop CS3 Extended. In Photoshop Elements 4 there is a selection brush, enabling you to make pixel by pixel selection (if desired). There seems to be NO counterpart in CS3 - - which seems impossible for so powerful a program. In that most of my work involves selecting very precise points of 1 or 2 pixels, how can this be done?
I did a search with little success, but I picked up a couple of copies of Windows 7 Release Copy today at a tech expo and was wondering if anyone had had a chance to try it out. One of the IT guys I know has been running the Beta for a while and loves it, but I'm curious about how many people may have tried it with Photoshop and Illustrator. I'm finishing up building a new computer and could load it either on that or on this laptop, but I'd like a little feedback first!
Currently I am running PhotoShop extended CS5, 64bit. in which i have my fovorite plugins (Topaz, Nik and OneOne) running perfectly.
I have upgraded to Adobe Creative Cloud and installed PhotoShop extended CS6 using Adobe Application Manager as recommended. It didn't ask me if I wanted to upgrade or do a new install for PhotoShop. So now I CS6 running with no Plug-ins. I need my plugins! LOL.
I tried pointing to additional plugins in the CS6 preference to the CS5 plugin folder. Upon Launch it gave me a whole slew of error messages saying something cant load or launch C+ runtime error or what not. It does open up, but it only gives access to Nik and Topaz. OnOne doesn't show up under filters or extensions.
So, what are my options?
Just copy the plugins from CS5 to CS6?
I dont't want to reinstall all the plugins to CS6 if I don't have to as I've auto updated them over time to current versions online, so only have installation files for my original purchases.
I'm happy with the NX version, but if I want to upgrade to XT, how do I do it? I looked on the upgrade options for XT and upgrading from NX, is not there.
