Photoshop :: Alt+print Screen
Oct 12, 2005
I'm using CS2, and i wanna get a print screen of one of the pallets (one of the little windows on the right). when i click ALT+PrintScreen on the keyboard, it copies the entire screen.
I tried on someone else's computer using PS 5.5 and pressing ALT+Printscreen does only the required pallet.

I'm running CS6 on a Win7, 64bit machine.
I've used PS off and on for a few years. Everytime I upgraded; no problem output quality is the same. But since CS6 I have a problem between my PC and print and display on other PCs. The images on my PC look excellent, vibrant with good colour balance. But if I open them on my laptop or look at them on someone else's machine the contrast is very dark, with a reddish tone. It's the same results with printing. Consequently I'm working in the dark trying to second guess what final images will look like.
I'm not sure why and it's confined just to PS as everything seems calibrated correctly becuase any of my Illustrator, Premier or After Effects projects look as they should on my monitor as well within the tolarences expected on my laptop or anyone else's PC.

In general the performance of CS3 is suffient for everything except when I go to print. It takes over 2 minutes for the "Print" Window to come up. I've done some online research and have made some recommended settings chnages that are suppose to improve performance, but nothing is working for this particular issue.

Got specs for converting a print ad to jpg for ATM: 800wx600h; 72dpi; 256 colors. As far as I know, the only way to get 256 colors is to convert to index. When I do, the halftones get slightly grainy.
Also, I can only save the file as .psd, not .jpg as required. How to convert my file to 72 dpi jpg with 256 colors.

I am working in PhotoShop CS in CMYK. I am satisfied with my colors in PhotoShop, but when I import the graphics into InDesign, the colors dull considerably. I take this to mean they will print similarly.
I have had issues with getting my CMYK files to print like they look on screen. Does anyone have any tips on how I could get what I see on the screen to match more closely what will come out of the printer?

All of a sudden I have a strange problem. I am unable to paste into adobe photoshop once I press the print screen button. I am however able to print into the likes of paint or other applications, but it seems to tbe photoshop that is affected.
If I copy a image from a website or so and paste in photoshop it works.
I would guess that it may be something to do with the internal clipboard of the application, but has anyone any ideas. I still use Photoshop 7 for what it is worth on XP.

When I run a video in Windows Media Player then freeze it and take a print screen and paste the print screen into Photoshop, I can't save out the picture because the picture 'moves' around it's canvas in the picture. And when I unfreeze the video so it carries on playing in Windows Media Player, it plays in the pasted Photoshop window too!
How do I simply save out a picture from a video still?

When I view an image at full screen a slight ripple effect appears, I thought it was just an issue with my GPU rendering settings and the ripple goes away when I zoom in on the image.
The problem is this ripple effect is showing up on the printed image.

even though graphics look absolute sharp on the screen, the print out rather pixelated which I dont understand why. When I print the same graphics work out using different software such as Microsoft Word believe it or not, it comes out extremely sharp but the same graphics in Photoshop come out pixelated. The initial graphic work was designed in Flash and has been exported in many file formats.
I know some of you would say "Why dont you just print everything out from Microsoft Word", well the answer is, this design work is for a new Mouse Mat where the printing company has specified Photoshop EPS file format.

It's already a horrible situation that PSCS3X, the king daddy of Photo Editors doesn't support multiple screen capture, but now were 1 step into no-man's land here.
Pressing PRINT SCREEN and then focusing PS and pressing CTRL + N to create a new document usually will create a new document with the captured area's dimensions prefilled (1680x1050), but instead it says 64x64, and pasting doesn't paste any content into the canvas.
Anyone know what I might be overlooking?
Persists after program restarts as well.

If I do a print screen and paste, for instance, a website into Photoshop, the colors are off by a MILE. Everything appears all washed out, it's really awful.
I have PS CS at work, and am not having this problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop, and so far, none of the changes I've made in edit > color settings

When I am designing a picture in Photoshop Elements 10, what I design on the screen doesn't print out the same way. The printed version is slightly cutting off around all edges. I have only started encountering this problem a couple of months ago. It's very frustrating. I know it's not a driver issue and I am formatting the same way and using the same printing methods as I always have.

Everything is calibrated. That is not an issue.
When I work the photo (JPG, TIFF or PSD) to where it is what I want, the preview is darker in the print preview. Probably one f/stop in photo terms. And, THIS is how it actually prints.
What is causing that? And, is there a fix?
None of the "show paper color," etc. are checked, so that is not causing the difference.

I switched from Photoshop Elements 7 to Photoshop Elements 10. I cannot get a print of a photo that matches the screen. Photos are dark and red. I cannot edit the photos because I do not know what will print out. I have switched back to Photoshop 7 and my photos print fine, just as they have been edited.

I have a client who is requesting that their "image" be saved as a PNG at "715px X 915px at 72 dpi", and have it print with the text crisp and clear. I have tried to convince them to use a PDF instead to ensure that the print quality would be where they want it to be however they reject that idea.
1. They are requesting 72 dpi not ppi. There is a difference, one is screen one is print. You cant have both in my opinion. I have been using ppi, since that is the setting that illustrator and photoshop allows.
2. You also should not save anything for print at 72 ppi. That will not produce the best quality image regardless.
3. I have attempted several different ways to save this.
- I have saved it in illustrator as a png and mulitple resolutions.
- I have used my illustrator png and put in Photoshop and re saved it, after re sizing it. The dimensions in illustrator never seem to stay accurate.
- i have attempted to save it as a PDF and convert to PNG is acrobat.
None of these work. There is no issue getting it to look nice on screen, its the printing part that I am having an issue with. When I save it at anything higher then 72 it increases the dimensions. If I create it at anything higher then 72, the dimensions increase as well. I have not been able to keep it at 715px x 915 px and have it print clearly. They come back and tell me i need to decrease the size, or the text is too blurry.
How do I get this PNG to be 715px by 915px at a 72 ppi (or dpi) resolution look good on screen, and print with clear crisp text?

We are in the process of upgrading from AutoCAD 2010 to 2013. The print screen key on the keyboard will not work in the 2013 version (using Snagit to capture the screen image). Changing the hot key (in Snagit) works but I'm trying to keep the same workflow for my 300 plus Users.

I have an important question about how to set up my files for print. In school I was taught to work in CMYK or at least convert whatever RGB file I'm working on to CMYK. I'm at work now and the files I am printing are coming out dull (in CMYK). I converted a file to RGB and assigned the RGB 1998 colour space and re printed it. The first CMYK print looked grey and was not vibrant. The new RGB print printed very vibrant and matched the screen colours better than the CMYK. My boss wants me to do the rest of the prints in RGB seeing as it prints with better vibrancy. Also, I am working in Illustrator.
So my question is: Can I convert all my CMYK files to RGB, send them to the printing company and expect the prints to be vibrant? Or will converting my CMYK files to RGB mess up the printing companies standards?
RGB prints better, but I was taught to always print in CMYK mode.
Actually I'm going to leave the files in CMYK since turning them into RGB may cause colour loss during the final large prints. I will print the presentation files in RGB though.

I've been struggling with the color management in CorelDraw X5 for awhile. I usually just design blind and check the print out or exported images after the fact to see if they're how I initially intended. The image above is exactly how the design looks in Draw.
This next image is how it looks when I print it out or when I export it to a JPG or PSD or other bitmap.
I've been researching for awhile on the color management and have tried many many varieties. I'm still not sure what the deal is. If it was my monitor or drivers I don't think I would be getting the result I want after I export the image, although I haven't tried updating the driver yet.
Below is my current configuration.

I am desperate and cannot think what else to try? I used Lr 3.6 to create custom (4 identical) photos to print on Kodak 210x297 mm (A4) glossy paper, using an HP 309a Photo-smart Premium inkjet printer. The size on the computer screen looks correct, in that the 4 pictures take up the whole A4 sheet. However, when I print, only one quarter of the photo paper is used, -ie., the 4 prints are all in one corner, and each print is like a tiny thumbnail. I have tried to vary the way I set this up by using different templates but nothing I do works at all, and I'm just wasting more and more paper.

I make an image 15.8 x 29.8 and when it prints out on my canon 8300 it is only 15.5 x 29.5 actual size measured on the canvas. the image is designed to wrap over the edge of stretchers 15 x29. the pics are 3 tenths inch short!
another pic is 15.5 x 29.25 instead of 15.5 x 29.5 so it is 1/4 inch short the long direction.don't recall having this problem before so why are the images not the same size in print that they are on the screen?
