Photoshop :: 4 Gigs Of Memory But CS3 Only Uses A Little Less Than 2 Gigs

View 9 RepliesNew computer (XP)with 4 gigs of memory but CS3 only uses a little less than 2 gigs.
View 9 RepliesI just upgraded recently to a Dell computer running Vista 64 and with 8 gigs memory and thought that would be enough for Photoshop. I worked today for about 2 hours opening raw scenery files in Bridge and making heavy use of the adjustment brush in camera and heavy use of other camera raw tools. Each file that was brought into Photoshop was further modified there and then closed.
When I went to open another file, I was told it could not be done because of a lack of memory. Photoshop was using 5.6 gigs of RAM. Bridge was using another 0.5 gig.
Photoshop is set (left default setting established by Photoshop) to use scratch space on drive C which because I just started with this computer a few days ago has about 500 gigs of free contiguous space. But actually I don't to make much use of scratch space because such use would slow computer down.
Does the 64 bit version just keep taking more and more RAM without releasing any after a file is closed? I gave computer several minutes wait to see if Photoshop would release memory--nope.
Everything ran fine until that error, machine did not slow down at all.
Its annoying to have to close Photoshop because it doesn't release memory.
Are other people finding that the program fails to release memory?

[PROBLEM]:
"Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM)" trying to save a LARGE .PSD file with 2 GIGs memory.
[DESCRIPTION]
I have a HUGE 60megs PSD file that consists of over 200 layers, along with tons of Folders and Subfolders inside conveniently organizing a very large project for a Client.
The problem is i've reached my limit apparently.. Opening up the file immediately causes the photoshop.exe to use 1.7 GIGS of ram.
Now it seems that can't go any futher in this project since the memory required is nearly the MAX installed and can't get more as I have the MAX 1 GIG per each of the 2 available slots that comes with the motherboard.
There HAS to be a setting I have wrong.. Adobe recommends least 512MEGS of RAM for Photoshop.. Yet I have the MAX my motherboard can hold which is 2 GIGS..
So I am assuming there must be a set up reason? Why couldn't it just use Virtual RAM DISK?
Is there ANYTHING that can be done to stop the out of memory problems???
In fact I can load the file up, then just SAVE IT (Done nothing to the file) and it sends that Not enough RAM prompt.
[STATS]
Motherboard: Asus AI Series (P5S800-VM) with 2 memory slots at a max limit of 1GIG PER slot.
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 CPU (3.0GHZ)
RAM : 2 GIG's (1 GIG per slot installed)
[Main setup]
C: = 10 GIGs remaining
D: = 19 GIGs remaining
Computer Loads on C:
- Adobe is on C:
- Adobe Settings - Scratch Disk : First = "D:"
: Second = "None"
: Third = "None"
: Fourth = "None"
- Cache Settings (Levels = 6) (I've tried 1 - 6 but not sure what this does)
- Min Memory used my Photoshop : 40% (705MB) (Again, I've tried all the way to 90%)
I am using window 7, 64bit with 8 gigs of ram. What is not understood in same results using the batch command, and manually re touching in CS5, but not the same when done in CS6. The results are different in CS6.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI just started to try to clean up my hard drive and using CCleaner I found that I had 70 GIGS OF FILES IN TEMP! most of this is made up of a 55 gig photoshop temp file and a bunch of 300-750 MB photoshop temp files. I am just wondering why these are in there, why they are so big, and if I can safely delete them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using corel x3 a long time but never, never had this kind of problem. When i work in corel enviorenment after i have finished my work i go to save my work. But then is the problem It Saves the file with Large Memory on it. let's say if the file normally would be 200 K, now it saves with 3 MB. And if i import some other files in my work then the saved file will be even bigger. If i Delete the files that were imported The Saved File will be Again the same SIZE ! Even if a take one part of the file, let's say if i import only one small text and put it in another file and save it like that, the saved file will be 2 MB. I had a lots of problems, i had saved files on this way with 23-24 MB and when i open them it takes like forever. When you look that file in corel it has nohing in it, absolutely nothing that should be 24 MB. But all of my important work is in that files how to make all things back to normal again,
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do have problem with my newly installed CorelDraw X5. Before X5 we used Corel 12 in our company.
I have project file (150 MB) with lots of text, bitmaps, vectors - about 100 pages. File opens but I can't save it. I always get OUT OF MEMORY error. I even tried to divide this file into 2 smaller parts but still doesn't work.
What I noticed - Corel X5 after clean start (without opened project) takes about 80MB of RAM in task manager. When I open project usage changes from 80MB to 1,2GB. While saving it takes 1,6GB of RAM and it crashes.
To compare - Corel 12 and after opening same project file Corel 12 takes much less of memory - about 770MB and it works without problem.Â
Where from comes this memory usage difference?

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to 32gigs vs the 16 I had and it's working, tested with system reporting programs, etc. And They all show the 32gigs of memory. Went into PS to preferences to change memory usage by PS and it still only shows 14769 of available memory.

Do I need to reinstall PS or what to get it to see the new memory total?

I have an HP Pavilion 730. I have purchased the upgrade to CS4 and it has been working for a while. Now all of a sudden, when I open the program, the computer goes "boink" and a message comes up that says:
The instruction at "Ox77e78804" referenced memory at "0x0at1a1470". The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate or click cancel to debug program. No matter which one I do, it shuts down CS4 totally?
I have been working on a large group of DNG's and I'm noticing that as I proceed through the edits my computer memory seems to be 'not releasing'. Example: Select photo, process it in RAW, open it in Photoshop CS3, edit, save and CLOSE the image. My computer memory does not seem to be refreshed when I close the image and eventually, after several images, I have to close the application to retrieve the memory. I am running on a PC Vista with 3 gig of memory (max my operating system will work with).
View 21 Replies View RelatedI made a javascript which has to convert and edit 18000 PDF's (pages) to arround 103.000 small images. I use ExtendScript Toolkit 2 to load a small file with all the file locations. Then each file will be opened and edited (one by one). This works fine and there are no real peaks in memory usage.
I let photoshop use arround 1500MB from the 1600 available RAM (Preferences -> Performance). I've never seen the whole system use more then 1200MB (2000MB available).
Despite that there is enough memory, the script stops working with the text "General photoshop error occurred ... this functionality because there is not enough memory (RAM)" in the status bar from ExtendScript.
When I restart the script, it will continue where it stopped and the next file will be converted without a problem.
The PDF file is not the problem and memory usage in general is not a problem.

I've got a Core2Duo Dell with 4GB of RAM running 32 bit XP Pro. My copy of CS3 sees about half of that RAM. I understand there is a "switch" in XP's Boot.ini that allows PS to read more then the 2GB.
I've read the above MS page & I can't figure out what to do.
When I try to save any of my work in photoshop as a jpeg (not large files-even only 5Mb size ones) it comes up with an error message saying not enough Ram to save. IM using windows xp, I have 2.5Gigs of ram, 100Gigs free space on C drive and 100gigs free space on my other drive (J:). I have checked the scratch disk prefernce and allocated 65% of ram to memory. I have also made my J: drive the number one scratch disk and C:drive as number 2. I have defragged my computer, and made sure no other programs ar running at the same time when im using photoshop. i have checked for viruses and spyware...and it still wont save....

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've installed PS CS a week ago and began to use it with stuff from my new
Panasonic FZ20 camera. Tried with .tif and .jpg pictures.
The problem: no matter which kind or size(!) (from 500k to 10M) of pictures
I'm trying to open, it takes it a very long time: opening about 30-40sec,
saving about 2 minutes. At the time the picture is being saved, the PC just
"freezes". I'f I'm waiting, everything returns to normal, but if I'm clicking
Alt-Ctrl-Del, PS stops and I have to open it again.
I'm using a relative powerful machine, P4 3.2, Asus Mobo and Asus 9200 video
card, 1G Mem, 300G HDs (defrgmented...) XP SP2 and so on...
Maybe there is any setup I'm missing at PS ...
At least, I can focus on the REAL Problem :
1. Ctrl-alt-del --> Processes
2. Turning on PS. --> It takes about 40M mem.
3. Opening a new file, about 35 x 25 inches and begining to scribble. -->
the memory it uses begins to "grow" up to 240M and then the proggie stops
responding. CPU at 50%.
4. Leaving it for about 5 min. and returning, it works (still using about
240M memory...) but it freezes every several seconds. The memoy is freed
only by turning the program off.
when I try to render clouds in either PS CS 2 or CS I get this error.
I have reinstalled CS still same message, removed it and put CS 2 on it and still got the same message I have removed all the files and tried to put one of the versions back on here still same message.

2008 MacBoo Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB graphics card tried running Photoshop CS6 under Mac OS X 10.7.4?
Â
On my MacBook Pro, PS CS6 launches; however, any action results in an out of memory error. The CS6 versions of After Effects, Premiere Pro and Illustrator all launch and run as expected under 10.7.4.
Â
If I switch to my Mac OS X 10.6.8 startup volume, Photoshop CS6 runs as expected. I have support cases open with Adobe, NVidia and Apple. Adobe thinks I need to update the display drivers. NVidia says display drivers must be provided by Apple. Apple says that the display drivers are current. The Apple support agent said that he can escalate the case if the issue can be reproduced on more than one computer.
Â
I'd love to keep my MacBook Pro running another year or so without having to reboot in 10.6.8 every time I need to use Photoshop. I'd stay with 10.6.8, but of course iCloud requires 10.7.4. I have not tried Mac OS X 10.8 yet, but it's on my troubleshooting list.
Also, PS CS6 runs fine under Mac OS X 10.7.4 on my 2010 iMac.
It was already a problem with CS4 but it's worse with CS5. Under CS4 it was regularly necessary to me to relaunch the appli to empty the memory (even without image, after use, CS4 indicated n Giga in the window of the processes)The same phenomenon with CS5, but moreover, if I have some one about ten images in display, in the course of processings the functions spend in break the time to put in memory (swap) of the data on the hard disk... In the course of this type of processing I exceed hardly 5 Go...For information I work under Vista 64 bits - 24 Go of lively memory (17 available Go for Photoshop), processor Intel I7 930It seems to me that there is no reason that Photoshop keeps(guards) in memory history after closure(lock) of a photo!

I cant work with this I have Core2Quad, 8GB ram, GeForce 250 GTS with Windows 8. Latest driver I also tried beta version and older version. Clean settings, disable opengl, reinstal photoshop, install 32 bit of photoshop I tried everything. All my programs (AE, Premiere, Softimage) works perfect. I dont use any plugins. Also tried compatibility mode. Now it looks that I have to reinstall windows.

Error Massage :-- "Could not use the Mixer Brush tool because there is not enough memory(RAM)"
since I use the newest Photoshop version I´m faced with tons of perfomance issues. Although I love CS6 and CC for the speed and performance, those pop-ups "not enough memory to proceed.."
I´m working on a good machine, so it can´t be the system performance because I´ve never had similar problems with CS5. I don´t want to paste any windows reports again and again, or talking about recently installed plug-ins.
Or even re-installing PS over and over again... Because, again: I´ve never had any issues with CS5!I´m talking about irrational memory warnings when saving for web and devices, or even saving simple, small jpeg files. I´ve more than 4 gb ram free on my system when working with PS, so.. what the h.. is going on?
Just installed CS6 about a month ago and at different points of taxing the program and my system and on various tools or events in Photoshop, I get an error that tells me there is not enough ram to complete the task.
Â
I'm using CS6 Extended 64-bit and my comp specs are:
Â
Windows 7 Pro
16 gigs of DDR3 memory
Intel i-7 second gen chip
ATI Radeon 5500 with 2 gigs onboard memory
Â
And all of my stuff is up to date - including PS. I've allocated 75% of the system memory to PS in the preferences.Â
Trying to open CS, I get...
Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again.
Only some browser windows and picture viewer were open. I close all and try again, get same message.
I have Win XP, Pentium 4 3.0 GHz HT, 3G Ram.
It used to open. My computer starts up slower than it used to. I think something is not working efficiently but I don't know what. I don't have a lot of background things running.
Photoshop CS4 does not seem to release memory until I close the software. As an example I will open a D3x image file and maybe work on 3 layers of the image and at this point Photoshop is using up to 3GB of system memory.
I then take this file flatten it and reduce it down to around 1333px and in Task Manager Photoshop is still using up 3GB of system memory. Only after about 5-10 minutes does it then drop down to 1.5 GB but keep in mind I only have a file that's about 2.4 MB in size open.
Could this be due to the fact that I am running the 32-bit version of CS4 under a 64 bit OS? Any other ideas why Photoshop could be doing this?
I am processing a few hundred raw images with a Photoshop CS3 action. It opens the files using ACR, does some minor adjustments, and then saves the files as JPGs. However, after a hundred or so files, the batch throws up a dialog box witth the following message:
Could not save as "K:Photos...IMG_9044.jpg" because there is not enough memory (RAM). Try saving without optimization or as baseline JPEG.
When I restart Photoshop, and run the batch again, it runs for a while, and stops again. This looks like a memory leak to me.
For what it's worth, I'm using the default RAM allocation on a system with 2GB of RAM, a dual-core AMD 64 X2 3800, and the PS scratch is on a dedicated disk with about 250GB free.
I removed Photoshop from my computer a few weeks ago and now decided I wanted to put it back on. I have Photoshop CS but my CD's no longer work (thanks to my toddler they are totally scratched up). I had made backups a long time ago so I was trying to use those to reinstall photoshop. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, or if the backup copy I made was made wrong, but when I try to start Photoshop CS now it gives me an error "Memory could not be allocated". It tells me to shut down all other programs (of which there are none running) and try again. I've tried several times.
