Paint.NET :: Import / Open ACO Files (PS Palettes)

Nov 27, 2012

I have done several searches (using Google site search, "standard" Google search, and the search here) and haven't found the answer to this, but it seems I wouldn't be the first person to bring this up. Is there a plugin that allows you to convert ACO palettes for use in Paint.NET?

Paint.NET :: Import / Open High-Res PDF Files

May 10, 2011

For production artwork, I need to create a High-Res PDF file.

I know I could use a PDF printer to create the .pdf file. The problem I'm having, is that they provided me with a template, which also is a .PDF file.

I need to import this template into paint.net so I can paint over it. Is there a way to open .PDF files and maintain their dimensions (>300 DPI)

They mentioned: Certified High Resolution PDF files with norm PDF/x-1a:2001

CorelDRAW X5 :: Way To Import / Open SVG Files?

Dec 23, 2010

I've got an SVG file, it was generated by a program which generates such things, its completely valid according to the W3C validator. If I try to open it or import it into Corel X5, X5 crashes. I send off a WER to Corel hopefully (it says it sends it but one never knows for sure.)

My system Win XP (32 bit, SP3), 3.5GB of RAM, 500+GB free hard drive space..Corel X5 - I am pretty sure it has SP2 applied it calls it self 10.2.0.661 in the About menu.

I am attempting to create a BMP with the same color palette as Starcraft sprite images.

The tutorial I've found regarding creating Starcraft bmps mentions saving it as 8-bit, indexed color BMPs with compressed RLE, but it doesn't mention how to extract the palette from a Starcraft image and load it into Photoshop.

Paint.NET :: Import From SVG Files

May 19, 2011

This is not a request for full support to open/edit/save SVG files.

It would be a useful feature if paint.net could import from SVG files. A window will come up so you can adjust the dimensions/size and then it can add the image as a new layer. (Currently, I would use GIMP to convert SVG to PNG then import that into paint.net).

Paint.NET :: Can't Open PDF Files?

Jun 5, 2013

I have downloaded PAINT.NET 3.5.10 which works OK. I then downloaded PSD PAINT.NET, unzipped and pasted Photoshop.dll (version 2.3.0.0) to FILES TYPE  (in the PAINT.NET program folder). The FILES TYPE folder did not have anything else in it at the time.

I then re-started PAINT.NET but when trying to open PDF files previously saved in Photoshop CD6 then it states the file type is not recognised. I wish to be able to edit and print the PDF files in PAINT.NET.
I did try the "open as" feature directly from the files, instructing all files of that type to open with PAINT.NET but had the same errot.

The PDF files will of course open in Adobe Reader but obviously cannot edit there whilst the print quality from Adobe Reader does seem to be quite bad by comparison to Photoshop prints.

Does it mean PAINT.NETcannot open PDF files?

Paint.NET :: How To Open Already Save TPF Files

May 18, 2012

On [URL].... it says that you can convert your DDS files into TPF files, but I want to be able to open already save TPF files do I don't know how. I have also found this [URL]....which is an open source version of this progame which might hold some clues into make the TPF file openable in paint.net.

If it is possible, make a plug-in for Paint.NET to open this file format. I do not know how to code so I can't do anything about it. If not then it doesn't matter as I will try find some other way around it.

Paint.NET :: Cannot Open Files From Camera

Apr 26, 2012

So I just downloaded and installed Paint.Net and am ready to use it. I took a few test shots with my camera, which is a Nikon D90, in NEF (RAW) + JPEG mode.

Now here is my problem(s). First off, I can see the RAW image on my camera, however, when I try to open it in the Paint.Net editor, it does not even appear as being there. It does not recognize the file at all. Then also, if I try to use the JPEG format of the same photo, I get an error message "The image type is not recognized, and cannot be opened"

I have to first save the JPEG file to my computer and then I can open it with Paint.Net. And as of right now, I can not do anything with the RAW file so it sits on my camera's SD card.

I really want to start editing my photos a little more than I currently do and figured it was time to take the RAW dive.

Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 :: Open Compressed AVI Files

Jun 22, 2011

One of the reasons I have always liked PhotoPaint is because one can do some amount of video editing with it which is handy for animations or title frames to use in video editing programs. PhotoPaint has always been my preferred tool for making animated gifs from avi or mov files.

I see that it will open uncompressed avi or mov files but if they are compressed, it won't open them properly; such as showing the frames as solid black.

Is there a way to import additional codecs or filters or whatever for avi and mov into x5?

Paint Shop Pro :: Cannot Open JPEG (read Only Files)

May 20, 2012

My daughter in law who is Vietnamese took some photo's and downloaded the Jpeg files onto my pen drive.

When I transferred these files to my hard in the UK, I found that the photo's would not open. Looking at the properties, it showed every Jpeg photo was in in "Read only format" and contained 0 bytes. The hole folder contained 544 M bytes of photo's. I then deleted the shaded out part of the "Read only" file and pressed OK, but this did not allow the file to be read.

I then tried to open the photo's in Paint Shop X4 and this was a success.

A few days later I tried to re access the Jpeg photo's and again, but I cannot open the Jpeg files with or without X4. (working with Widows Home Premium)

Paint.NET :: Alternative Locations For Plugins / Palettes

Jan 7, 2014

Nowadays you see programs that install in the

C:users[username]AppDataLocal or C:Users[username]AppDataRoaming folder, rather than c:program files.

I have mixed feelings about this, because it confuses me where a particular program is installed. But I do understand the benefits.

Installation in c:program files requires administrator rights, whereas installation in the AppData can be done without (administrator rights).

The same counts for pdn plugins. Currently they need to be placed in c:program filesPaint.Netplugins, which can only be done with administrator rights. In a strictly managed environment I'd need to ask my system administrator to add a few plugins to the pdn install folder structure. (Really, our system administrator can not be bothered with such trivial requests ;-)

But if there was a secondary location where plugins can reside,

e.g. C:users[username]AppDataRoamingPaint.NetPlugins

Then any (low-rights) user could add his own plugins to an existing Paint.Net installation without the involvement of an administrator. Wouldn't that be great?

Maybe such a scheme could be included in the upcoming PDN 4?
