Paint.NET :: How To Set Canvas To 16:9 / 4:3 Size For Video Work
Mar 18, 2011
I discovered via a tutorial video making a transparent title in PowerDirector 9 Ultra video editor. The demonstrator used Paint.Net to create a 16:9 ratio canvas... but since installing your program I cannot figure out how to create a canvas to match these 2 video sized canvases.
I have this issue in Photoshop CS6 which I don't find in the older version. I only can click from the dropdown menu as the shortcut key function "Alt+Ctrl+C" is not applicable?
I've been using PSP for a long time now (fisrtly PSP7 and now PSP9) and I wanted to buy the new version PSPX4. I downloaded the free-trial version and I saw that it is impossible to generate files bigger than 10'000x10'000 pixels. In the canvas size menu, it's impossible to give a higher number. The problem is that a made bigger files with PSP9 and I'd like to keep on working on it without resizing them.
So my question is : Is it only a limitation of the trial version or is it simply impossible to work with bigger images than 10k x 10k ? I hope there is a simple solution because PSP9 encounters some problems with Win7...
I like Paint.net quite a bit more than Gimp. I do, however, like the Single Window Mode in Gimp, allowing me to tab my windows together, then lock the cluster to the side. It doesn't cover the image, either. Â I was just wondering if there is a plug in that would emulate something similar for Paint.net? I can't stand constantly moving my windows around based on the size of my image. It drives me up a wall. Even something to restrict the size of the canvas, so it can't go under the windows would work.
It use to be that when I would import a picture that was larger than the current canvas size I was dealing with it, it would ask me if I wanted to enlarge the canvas size or not. Now it just automatically is changing the canvas size and it's driving me nuts because I don't want it to do that!
I've recently started using Paint.NET and I've been very impressed with its features. I've run into some problems working with large images though. URL...
It's a 10000 x 11299 pixel PNG image. I want to be able to zoom in quite far in order to look at some of the fine details, and make some notes on the image while I go. Unfortunately, as I read elsewhere on this forum, it seems that Paint.NET currently doesn't support a virtual canvas size greater than 32768 x 32768. On this image, that means I get a maximum zoom of 290% before I can't zoom in anymore, which isn't very much. Right now I'm having to use the "Windows Photo Viewer" to actually view and zoom into the image, while making the notes zoomed further out in Paint.NET, which is a bit cumbersome.
I know this is probably non-trivial to fix, but it would be fantastic if you can remove this barrier on the maximum virtual canvas size.
I'm trying out X4, and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but it seems like the canvas size on X4 at any resolution is much smaller than in X3, e.g., at 200 pixels/inch, X4 allows 50"x50", while X3 allows 164x164". Similarly at 150 pixels/inch, X3 allows 218", while X4 allows approximately 67". Given the fact that X4 is supposed to provide access to more memory, and uses a scratch pad, this does not make sense to me-
I wanted to combine two images one needs to be fit to the scale of the background image. So basically I followed the instructions.
Open up your background layer which was 800x600 landscape photo.
Then I imported my other image which was 600x800 portrait photo too. Layers -Import from file. I resized it then copied into a new layer. That was fine.
The problem is as soon as the new image is imported, the background image changes so that it only takes up half of the canvas. So now I've got a white area for half of the canvas. I can't seem to change this.
I'm trying to design an a4 and a3 poster; and I'm looking for the dimensions to fill in to the canvas sizing tool....  I keep finding the dimensions but I'm confused as to what I am to have the resolution bar/ option set at? I want the posters dpi to be 300 or 400.
I'm working on a flyer on a 8x11 canvas, but I want all of the elements I'm working to be transferred to a NTSC video film format. I understand how to a open a NTSC (Video Film Canvas), but I do not understand how to convert a canvas that I'm working to that.
I just got CS5.1 at my job. This must be a preference, but when I adjust the Canvas size, it will constrain the image, rather than cropping the canvas. The Anchor in the Canvas Size menu appears outlined (highlighted?) which indicates that this is something in preferences that I can adjust.
Can someone please explain to me about file sizes and image dimensions. I have to put together a collage which is 165mm high by 258mm wide. If I click file new and choose default resolution (72) then the file size is ok, if I type in 300 dpi the image becomes huge.
If i chosse 300 dpi then the images I was going to use seem tiny on such a vast workspace - Im confused why does the canvas become so large when changing resolution?
I have a created a new PSD that is 8 1/2 x 11.The canvas size is the same 8 1/2 x 11.I want to put a border around the picture (say 1/2 of an inch all around), and put the finished picture in a Picture frame. After it is in the frame, you would be able to see the entire picture plus the border. Q. Should I change (reduce image size) of the PSD to (for this example), 8 x 10 1/2.     Then increase the canvas size to 8 1/2 x 11. After I increased the canvas size, do a Paint Bucket fill with white (to create the White border)? then print the changed size PSD on 8 1/2 x 11 paper so that it will fit into a 8 1/2 x 11 picture frame I realize I could have just created the new PSD to be 8 x 10 1/2 in the first place.
In photoshop 7, I create a graphic. But most of the time the default size of the canvas is bigger than the graphic. How can I "snap," the canvas size to the picture size?
I was creating Jpeg images in Photoshop for eBay listings by opening my photo file, cutting out the image and pasting it to a new white canvas in the size I wanted. Now, suddenly when I try to do the cut and paste, all I get is a blank canvas with no image pasted into it.
I was trying to add 5mm around the canvas, when i noticed something strange.
I changed the measurement to cm, then added 1cm to each, Height and Width, then changed the Width measurement to mm (which changed both displays to mm) but only one of the setting changed to mm; the height still had the same value it had when displayed in cm.
This only happens when both Height and Width are changed.
im currently working on a project that requires a very large canvas. currently, photoshop will not create any canvas with pixel dimentions of over 30k x 30k. the only way i can currently fit my entire image is to drastically lower the image DPI, any way to change this limitation photoshop has, or if theres another program I can use to do this?
HAving just installed 2.8 after using 2.6, I find all scanned images and existing jpeg files I created in 2.6 are displayed at ridiculously large dimensions. In 2.6, all scanned images were loaded on screen at their actual A4 size, regardless of scan resolution. In 2.8 they are loading up on screen at around 5 times the actual size - it seems I have to scale the image back down to A4 before I can start editing it? I tested this on A4 jpeg files I created on 2.6, and they also load on screen at massively enlarged sizes. how to get these images to display at their actual sizes?
I am trying to open a new document to make a design that will be printed.Since it will be printed, I set my resolution to 300 ppi.I need my canvas size to be 6.5" by 3.625", but the canvas size automatically sets itself to 6.5" by 3.627", and I can't change it. Â I don't have this problem at lower resolutions
I have designed a billboard and used various photos. Due to changes in the positions of the layers, I ended up with a canvas bigger than the photo. So I need to remove the extra canvas. How do I remove the extra canvas? Â I can use the marque tool to copy/cut and paste the photo unto a new file, and hence get rid of the extra canvas. If this is the way forward, is there a precise way to get the marquee tool to the edges of the photo? Is there a function to snap the marquee to the edge of the photo?
I want to change the canvas size, though why is it that when I press the down arrow it adds to the canvas on top, and when I press the up arrow it adds to the canvas on the bottom? It just seems like it should be the other way around.
