Maya :: Grid Disappearing Half Way Up The Screen
May 6, 2012I change the working units from centimeter to meters, and the grid disappears half way up the screen along with any model that's on it. is there a solution for this?

Sep 27, 2013I am making an image to be screen printed. In the background theres a moon in a very dark sky. The moon is going to be white, with a greenish gradient glow (circle shaped) around it, fading into darkness in the rest of the sky. I have the gradient ready but I can't figure out what to do about making it a half tone so I can screen print it.
I suppose the specifics of my image aren't crucial. What I need to know is how to make a coloured half tone where it's essentially two colours on two separate layers that blend into each other. Should it be two half tone layers? Or is it better to have ONE of the two colours a half tone, while the other sits below and together they create the illusion of blending?

Mar 28, 2013I have a black bar on the top half of my screen when i render on the timeline after leaving CFX. when I enter CFX everything looks good, but once I am on the timeline I can't se the top half of my footage. This happened when I applied aliasing to the shot, but remained once I removed it. Also when i applied 4xHWAA My entire screen gets blacked out. This also crashes the smoke when rendering.

Apr 6, 2011Every so often some Tabs will disappear from my Shelf. I only notice the Polygon and Surfaces Tabs missing, as they are the ones I use most often. When I restart Maya, my Polygon and Surfaces tabs return. But after setting up my Project and re-opening my scene, the Tabs disappear again, and my custom Tab is also empty too. I have read that deleting preference files will return my shelves. But honestly, this is always happening too me, why are my shelves disappearing seemingly randomly, in various projects.
Is there a way to just add the Polygon and Surfaces shelves again?

Oct 1, 2011i'm currently learning maya 2011..my problem is that sometimes when i use the split polygon tool or the edge insert tool and some others A PART OF MY MODEL goes into wire frame mode not the whole model and even if i undo it still doesn't work..in the perspective viewport under shading i have selected 'smooth shade all'.

Apr 17, 2012We've had to re-image machines, so it's been a few days of trouble shooting new issues with re-install of Maya2012.
Installed SP2 for Vista yesterday in hopes some of the modeling issues would be fixed. But still having two issues.
The worst is each time I try to cut faces my faces in sections of model disappear. The face is there and it's closed. If I re-launch Maya then the display is correct.
The last but less of a nuisance at this time is a white display during view port changes. Didn't have this issue before. But all of our machines here on the team are doing the same thing.

Jun 10, 2011Marking menu that cuts off the bottom of the screen yet? This is very anoying that on some PC's if clicking somewhere closer to the bottom of the screen a portion of your context meny cuts off. If you click even lower then it jumps to the top but there is an area where it does not work.

When the modify dimensions box is open, the 'roundoff' menu gives me 1/16", 1/8" etc, even when DECIMAL is selected as the unit format.
This wasn't happening earlier, not sure what's going on. [in fact in a solved problem from earlier, a colleague found a drawing that had units set to millimeters, had its insertion scale set to inches! Different computer, so not related].
Photoshop :: Half My Tools Work/Half Don't
May 1, 2008I am trying to edit a JPEG. It is one layer. My mode is Normal with 100% opacity, 100% fill. The layer is not locked.
I can use several tools including move, magic wand, paint bucket, crop. However, I cannot use the eraser, paintbrush, healing tool, clone stamp (which is the one I desperately need to use) or many others.

Illustrator :: Coordinates / Pixel Grid Or Retina Screen Error?
Oct 20, 2013There's a box, I've set it to 0,0 coords, but it will not stick to the top of the artboard. I've tried align to pixel grid on and off (It would not move off 0.318px when I had align pixel grid on, which confused me too!). When I turn align to pixel grid off the box stays closer to the top, BUT when I export for web it sticks a white line in at the very top of the artwork.
I'm on a macbook pro, retina.

The second problem is at other times the proper tool icon and function is not showing up and working. I select for example the pen tool and the hand tool icon show up and the function works as the hand tool not the pen tool?
Maya :: Stuck On Splash Screen Doing Nothing?
Jan 17, 2014about three weeks ago, maya 2014 started being stuck at the splash screen saying "Maya loading" and doing nothing. I also tried running it with admin permissions, repaired it, uninstalled and deleted AppdataLocal-and-RoamingAutodesk, then installed again. I also tried installing Maya 2013, to see if that starts up: it doesn't. EDIT: I also tried restarting that license program The only thing I can call a reason is: It randomly asked me to license and stuff, after i accidently opened it twice. Then I 'clicked through' (I did read it though) and killed the second process. After that it stopped working.

May 3, 2013Whenever I attempt to marquee select (click-hold and drag a box) in Viewport 2.0, the viewport becomes a blank white screen and instead of drawing a box my mouse draws a single thick line. When I release the mouse, the viewport will not return to normal until I move the camera. It actually does perform the selection that I would expect. However, not being able to see what I'm doing is a bit of a pain sometimes.
The irony is that it actually works fine in default and high quality modes, but I'm not able to use those because the transparency sorting is really wonky and doesn't let me see what I'm trying to work on from the angles that I need. Only Viewport 2.0 solves that problem.

Jun 3, 2013I'm here with 2013 SP2 64 bit Build 200 and two screens. Left screen is graphics area, Browser is on the left of right screen. Graphics is ATI Fire Pro V7800 with driver 9.3.3.3000.
In video (zipped MP4) you see a cutout of both screens, think of screens changing at the left of the browser.
Now, in many cases, after doing an operation, the browser is jumping back to the middle of my graphics in the left screen.

Jul 23, 2012I have a user and when he's in sketch mode he trys to draw a line but it keeps on snapping to a grid. Both snap and grid setting are switched off. I can't find any settings he has different from my own set-up so I'm finding it hard to fox this problem. FYI, this user is a bit of a problem and tends to change settings without even realising he's doing it.
He's using Inventor 2012.

Feb 16, 2012Revit has a propensity to locate a lay-in ceiling grid with a grid intersection in the center of the room. You can use the alignment tool to align the grid with a wall. But I see no way to center a tile in a room. This is often a necessity in a narrow room, to keep the lights centered. Also, installers, when not given specific instructions to the contrary, will often locate the ceiling grid to minimize narrow tiles at the wall. We need more control over the position of the grid.

Apr 25, 2013When using the perspective grid tool and type, I have a word on the right side of the grid in perspective, and I want to make a shadow of this word flat on the bottom grid. (Like how a tall building casts a shadow flat on the ground)
I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.

Jan 18, 2012Understanding that composite volumes are typically more accurate, I have a reason to evaluate the volume between two surfaces via a grid volume. Easily created a grid volume surface using a 50' grid (50' is large for this site, but wanted to get a feel for calculation time).
Question: Can you change the grid size without creating a new grid surface? Ultimately I woud like to explore the difference in volumes based on grid sizing without creating a long list of surfaces. One would expect that you could chage the grid spacing in surface properties, but the values are non-editable.

Paint.NET :: Adjust Grid Size And To Snap-to-grid?
Sep 10, 2013I'm looking for an option to adjust the grid size and to snap-to-grid.
For some purposes, you can find a way around this, but it is a pain when working on a project that requires perfect precision.
The topic has been brought up before, but I'm hoping to hear of any news on the possibility of implementing it. I don't assume there has been made any plugins to cater this need since earlier posts on the matter, so I'm hoping to persuade developers to implement the feature in a new version of paint.net instead.
If you need to know more specifically what I'm looking for, then it's basically what you have in Adobe Illustrator or any decent 3D modelling software you will ever come across. It would work pretty much exactly like the grid already in place, except you would not be limited to working only with individual pixels, but rather groups of pixels as you zoom further out. The grid would preferably have thicker lines every 5, 10 or 15 lines, etc. for user to position the various elements.

While editing small (16 x 16) images, I noticed that Paint.NET used a grid with a width of 2 pixels. Selection rectangles snap to this grid, as do paste operations.
How can I specify the grid width or disable this snap to grid effect altogether?
