Lightroom :: How To Reorganize All Images Into Single Location And In Logical Directory Structure

Jan 8, 2012

I have created a hodge podge of directories with images in various locations. I want to re-organize all my images into the single location and organization in a logical directory structure. Now for my question. Would I be better off moving all my files into the new directory structure then create a new master catalog then import into the new catalog? I am wanting to develop and use import templates to better organize and document my images... btw, I am not opposed to upgrading v3 if this will make things easier... just haven't had a need as yet.

Photoshop Elements :: Can't Make A Backup After Changing Directory Structure

Nov 6, 2012

My first objective is to get a directory and its sub-directoried to agree as far as total file count is concerned and I'm not getting there. I have a directory the shows a total of 1082 files. When I totaled the number of files in the sub-directories I had 1080 files. I found two files that did not belong in the directory. I removed the tags from the two files (pictures) and then removed them from the catalog but not from the hard disk. They belong to a different catalog. When I totaled the sub-directories I got 1080 which meant the two files were gone from the sub-directories. But, the directory total was still 1082 and noted that two files were not shown. If they arn't in the sub-directories why are they counted in the main directory?

Lightroom :: Reorganize Catalog And Folders

Dec 17, 2012

I have a large photo repository (40,000+ images).

Prior to 2011 I was using Bridge/Photoshop and organized the files by client.

In 2011 I started using LR and let it import new sessions using the year/yyyy-mm-dd folder structure. I now use LR exclusively 99% of the time, and would like to "re-import" my older images into the year/yyyy-mm-dd structure and do away with my haphazard prior organization for those images. Is there a way to get LR to reorganize the files (i.e. move all the old images into year/yyyy-mm-dd folders) while keeping all other catalog/editing metadata intact?

How does this sound for an approach:

Synchronize to make sure the catalog is up to dateSave Metadata so that all metadata is written to sidecar files or into the image files for formats that support itIn LR "remove" the foldersImport the folders with the "Move" option but disable renaming.

Lightroom :: How To Reorganize Develop Presets

Nov 27, 2013

I am trying to reorganize my develop presets. When I go to the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develo Presets/Lightroom Presets, the folder is empty. I know I have them somewhere, because I can see them in the develop module. My user presets are there, but all the defaults are missing. Are they buried within the Lightroom programme? I would love to find them in order to make things neat and tidy and be able to back up/sync with my other catalogues.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Set Variable Depending On Location Folder (find Directory)

Sep 20, 2012

We have user folders on severall servers, now I want the user menu's to be stored on the network so their home folder depends on what server it's located on. I tried using the vl-file-directory-p command but it doesn't seem to work.

Even worse, as soon as the userfolder is found I want to let the script check for a file called user.cuix in the Acad folder and if it doesn't excists copy it from another location to that folder (if possible).

This is what I got so far:

(setq UserName (getvar "loginname"))
(setq RootZW "\\users\zw\")
(setq RootVL "\\users\vl\")
(setq Company "\\CADConf\ACAD13\")

[Code] ..........

Next to this we have 4 other options as well, but to keep it short I left it at the first 2.

Lightroom :: Reorganize Big Catalog In Folders By Capture Date

Dec 13, 2012

I typically import my photo's from my camera and reorganize the photos by date.

However I just had several thousand old printed photographs scanned.

I have:
1. Imported the photographs into a seperate new catalog2. Labeled all the photographs with keywords
3. Metadata->Edit Capture Time so that the capture time is now the correct date

Now I would like to reorganize the photo's into folders by date the usaual yyyy/yyyy-mm/yyyy-mm-dd by the capture time date.

I have tried to import them into another catalog either by either "Import Photo's and Video" or by "Import from another catalog" either way the new catalog has the folders by date that the photographs were scanned not by the capture time that I changed.

How do I do this change the folders to be by capture date?

Photoshop :: Different Selections From Same Logical Procedure (Mac OS 10.6.8)

Jun 15, 2012

Example:

Create or open a document.

Create a horizontal guide by dragging it from the ruler.

Now use the marquee tool to select the upper half of the picture, with the bottom of the selection snapping to the guide.

Result:Some times it happens that the resulting selection is different than the (logically) same selection made from the lower half of the picture to the guide and then inverted.Effectively this means sometimes when I use a snapping guide as the limit of a selection from one direction it is not border-to-border with one drawn from the other side. Then a line of one pixel height 'behind' the guide is not selected by either one of these procedures.

Expected Result:When the guide (which should have no width or height at all) forms the border of a selection from one side, it should be the inverse of a selection touching the guide from the other side.

Paint.NET :: Batch Single Folder Path Location Save / Save As

Dec 4, 2013

AND/OR a open tab recovery cache or way to extract the images that get lost during a crash of PDN.

Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.

No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.

Lightroom :: 3.6 Can't Export To Directory On READYNAS

Apr 8, 2012

I have Lightroom 3.6. I also have a lot of images. So I got a READYNAS RNDU4000 disk array (RAID) with 4 disks each of 2 TB. My computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. It mounts the RAID array as a network drive just fine. Now suppose I have some new images. I make a new folder on the RAID array, lets say it is called "WildAnimalPark" and copy the images in there. I start up Lightroom, and choose Import Files, and point it at WildAniamalPark, and it imports the images just fine, and lets me make adjustments. (The Lightroom catalog is in my F drive, a hard drive on my computer.) Now I want to export smaller jpegs suitable for web or e-mail. So I go to File->Export. I tell it to export the images to "Same folder as original photo", and check "Put in Subfolder" and name the subfolder "email". Farther down I ask for the images to be scaled to 800 pixels on the long edge and to limit the file size to 125K. (I doubt these details matter.) When I click "export", it appears like it is going to work. You can see the progress bar move across as it makes the files. But then I get an dialog box that says, "Some export operations were not performed. The file could not be written," followed by a list of off the files it should have written. When I look it the original directory, I see that it has created the subfolder "email" (so it really can write to the RAID array), but it is empty.

I should add that it works perfectly if I put the directory on a local hard drive.

Lightroom :: How To Import A Directory From The Harddrive

Mar 13, 2012

I like LR4, the best are the RGB curves :-)

But there are some little things which would make the handling a lot better:

1) Import Dialog

If I want to import a directory from the harddrive and I navigate to it using the dialog it will start scanning the whole drive including subfolders for images. That locks up the application so I can either wait for 15 minutes or use the task manager to close it.

I found no way to enable/disable the setting "include subfolders" from case to case.

2) Import Dialog

The setting "handle JPEG with RAW" is burried in the general property dialog, but it should be part of the import dialog - logically.

3) Import Dialog

I would like to sort by file TYPE - this way I can easily select the RAWs only, and only pick the JPPE I really like.

4) Library View

There are all sorts for X:Y and Y:X zoom setting, but no setting to view the images at a certain output size. How am I supposed to check images if they are ok to be printed ok at 10 x 16 '' for example if my images have a different size?

I dearly miss a possibilty to view at a certain dpi rate, or certain pixel width or inch or cm - the pixel based 1:x zoom rates look a bit dated and not of practical use.

5) Automatic stacks

There is a function to create stacks by time, but not by filename. It would be so practical to stack RAW and JPEG if that would be possible.

6) Print Module

How can I select´the page size in the otherwise very useful print module?

Esspecially when I need to create JPEG - I want to set a desired size.

Lightroom :: Cannot Import From NFS Directory - Tree Not Expandable

Jan 4, 2013

I am using Lightroom 4.3 on Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1).

I am unable to import files from an NFS-mounted directory because the folders lack rocker nodes, so I can't navigate through the tree to my existing Photos directory. It isn't practical or desirable to import the entire NFS filesystem.

I originally had the filesystem mounted with these options:

freenas:/mnt/vol_home/nfs_home on /Volumes/home (nfs, nodev, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse)

And while I can see the root of the filesystem in the left side of the import window, and while the directories have little folder icons next to them, the little triangular rockers next to them are greyed out. If I picked a directory, and checked "include subfolders", then Lightroom would recurse through the tree and show me all of the pictures. But I don't want to import my entire filesystem. I need to navigate down the tree to my photo directory, but the rockers are "greyed out". It's difficult to see them greyed out when the background is grey too, but they are there, faint as they are.

So, I thought maybe the "nobrowse" option had something to do with the inability to navigate. I used "NFS Utility" to remove the "nobrowse"option, and remounted the filesystem. It is now mounted with these options:

freenas:/mnt/vol_home/nfs_home on /Volumes/home (nfs, nodev, nosuid, noatime)

And while I can see the root of the filesystem in the left side of the import window, and while the directories have little folder icons next to them, [most of] the rockers next to them are still greyed out. Here is a screenshot of the import window, alongside a Finder window, which of course lets me open the rockers and navigate just fine. The fact that Finder works implies to me that it isn't a permissions problem. Of course I can also "cd" using the terminal commandline. The navigation problem appears to be limited to the Lightroom application.

only the "rbrown" folder has a working rocker. The other rockers are greyed out (which is really difficult to see). I need to navigate below "rbrown", but cannot. Finder can open the "family" rocker, and can open the subfolders under "rbrown" just fine.

Why does lightroom refuse to let me open these folders?

Lightroom :: 4.1 Creating Duplicate Directory References

Jul 28, 2012

I keep recreating my directory tree to fix this, but LR keeps recreating a folder with the same name as my import folder. So imagine my overall structure is:

Mac Hard Drive
   LR Photos
      Many folders, including ...
      Imports
---

LR will create a new directory reference at the top of the list of directories, in lowercase. So at the top of the directory list, you'll see, after an import ...

   lr photos (note lowercase)
       Imports

I'm attaching a screenshot ... (with lots of folder names deleted obviously)

It seems like it's related to the import process, but i never manually type or change during imports -- i leave it alone, and yet it makes this new lowercase reference. (it does not actually create new folders on the hard drive.)

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2012 - Pipe Structure Editing - Changing Preset Lists For Structure Sizing

Nov 4, 2011

We use C3D 2012 (metric only) - We are attempting to customize our list of structures for Sanitary Sewers. The structure list shows sizes we do not use and we would like to modify them. However, when we try to select the "Inner Diameter" it displays a list of sizes that we can not seem to modify or add to.

I have looked at some of the XML files to try and modify or add new sizes (example: AeccStructConcentricCylinder_Metric.xml) , but they do not seem to be recognized even after I restart the program.

Here is what the file looks like:

<ColumnConstList desc="Inner Structure Diameter" dataType="float" unit="mm" name="SID" id="CCL1" visible="1" context="StructInnerDiameter" index="0">

1200.0000

1350.0000

1500.0000

1800.0000

2050.0000

2300.0000

2550.0000

I tried modifying the last line replacing 2550 with 3600.

I also tried adding a line
3600.0000

I saved the XML file and restarted the program with nothing changing that I can see.

Looking for correct file(s) to edit so I can modify the LISTS that come up in the piping modules.

Lightroom :: Catalog And Apple Open Directory Users

Aug 26, 2013

We are attempting to run Lightroom in our photo journalism classes and we are unable to setup the application because it will not create the Catalog file.

All of the users in Open Directory have their OSX 10.8 home folder stored on our Apple Server. This enabled them to log into any of the computers in the lab and have access to their data/documents.

Lightroom refuses to create the Catalog file because it treats the home folder as a network folder.

My predecessor found some way around this in the past but he didn't document it and I can't find any evidence of it either.

Surely there are other people out there trying to use Adobe Products who also utilize Apple's "Open Directory" (its like apple's version of Active Directory).

Photoshop Elements :: Get Folders And Images Back To Correct Places In Original Path Structure

Sep 5, 2013

Old PC Windows XP with PSE8. New PC Windows 8 with PSE11.I did a backup and restore operation. After the restore, there was a large list of files that could not be restored. I also noticed that there were a large number of thumbnails with a question mark attached.

I did a reconnect using FindAll missing files. Instead of placing the recovered files in their original path and folder location, they ended up in an entirely different path in the Folders View. I tried to drag the folders back to their original location, but got the message: folder with that name already exists at the requested location, even though it wasn't visible. In addition some of the folders involved were no longer visible in either path structure.

I checked in the My Folders View, and it showed that the folders involved in the reconnect were still intact. I opened one or two and found they contained the original missing images. How can I get the folders and their images back to their correct places in the original path structure?
