Lightroom :: Using (P Or X) To Sort Images In Version 5
Jun 23, 2013I have just downloaded a batch of images into LRM 5 - with earlier versions in 'Library' I have been able to go quickly through all the images using P or X.
I have just found that in 5 when P or X are used, the image either shoots to the start or the end of the group. So to move on to the next image you have to sort back to where you were previously - this is a real PAIN and makes a mockery of Quick Sorting'
i am using a PC with Windows 7 - upgraded from LRM 4 - at the moment everything else seem to be working OK!
Lightroom :: Sort Images In A Collection Set
Nov 5, 2011I'm using nested Collection Sets and Collections in LR 3.4 to manage image selections for a large book project. I'd like to create web galleries from groups of images (a Collection Set) to share with others working on the project.
Is there a way to have LR sort the images in a Collection Set (all lower level sets and collections) by the collection and/or set name? When I display the top level Collection Set all the images show up sorted by file name. I can change that to any of the sort options under View | Sort but none of those are at all useful.
Here's the tree structure of part of the Collection Set (these are all Latin plant names):
Rosaceae [collection set]

I'd like to sort all the Rubus images together, in named sequence by Collection, and then within each Collection sorted by file name. Then all the Sorbus, etc.
Am I missing something in how Collections work? Is there a way to sort within a Collection Set as I need to?

May 13, 2013I can select a rating and a color label for my images, but I can not sort by rating and color label. when I click on the filter drop down, color label is not one of the options. how do I get both ratings and color lables as an option to sort with.

Jul 16, 2013I am using multiple objects to make larger more complex objects. As part of this I need a way to select a large group of objects and adjust their Z Order. For example, say I have a grid of 100 squares, 10 columns of 10 squares. I want to arrange them so the squares (rows) toward the bottom of the grid are in front (bring to front/bring forward) the squares that are higher up in the grid. Basically, every row should be further back in the Z order than the row below it.
Now you might say well for a grid this is simple just select every object/square in the row and move them forward or back as needed. But in my case they are not actually arranged in a neat grid, they are pretty randomly thrown together. But the requirement is still the same, I want to take all of the objects and arrange them so the objects that are closer to the bottom of the art board are further forward in the Z order than the objects above them. Basically think of the bottom of the artboard as being the front most row of the Z order and the top of the art board as the furthest back in the Z order. I use this type of configuration to give the perception of depth and form.
Below you can see an example of a cloud like graphic created using this technique by manually adjusting each individual object which takes forever on larger objects. I pick a point toward the bottom, and then I manually start adjusting Z order on each item until I get the effect I want. Having some way to pick a point on the art board and then arrange the objects above and below it on the Y axis by moving them forward or back in the Z order as needed would save me a ton of time. As you can see below, from about the 3rd or fourth row of squares from the bottom, I have brought those to the front, and each row above or below it has had it's Z order adjusted to give the impression of depth. Each consecutive row after the foreground row is progressively further back in the Z order. Any way to automate this so that I can atleast have a base to start with before I start doing my manual adjustments?

Lightroom :: Series Of Images - Reset Zoom Position?
Sep 27, 2010I have a series of images taken with different settings and I want to quickly compare them at 1:1 in different areas of the image, center and corners. I have discovered that if I select the series I want to examine and then go to the first image and zoom that image to the position that I wish to when I use the arrow keys to move to each subsequent image will be shown zoomed into the same position
If I don't ever go to any of the other images and zoom anywhere this works just fine. The zoom location is remembered just for the first image. However, if i accidentally or deliberately zoom on one of the other images it will remember that zoom location forever which breaks the technique described above.
how to remove the remembered zoom location from an image like it is when you first import it into LR?
Lightroom :: Limited Function When Exporting Images?
Dec 9, 2012I'm using Windows Vista and my client is using a new Mac. We are both using Lr 4 along with Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop Elements 11.
When we export images to CS and PSE copies are created in the Lr filmstrip as expected and CS6 and PSE open as they should. Unfortunately, the images do not open in these programs as they should. We have to manually retreave them from the folder. What would be preventing the images from opening. It happens when we choose Export and Edit In...., but does not happen on my daughters computer which is operating with Windows 7.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Parts List Macro - Position Based On Style
Oct 19, 2011I have a macro that I acquired somewhere (possibly these boards, can't remember now) for placing a parts list. I have modified it somewhat to change the location on the sheet where the list gets placed, as well as a sub that starts the autoballoon command afterward.
The macro is set up to place the parts list in the upper left corner, by adding the parts list width to the Mini Point of the border. This works perfectly well, except that we have two parts list styles, and they are differently sized.
What I would like to do is have the macro detect the parts list style, and change the offset value depending on which style it finds. I am an extreme novice with the API, who basically knows just enough to tweak sample code a bit, and have not been able to find anything close enough to use as an example.
How I should go about this, or even post some samples of something similar? Current code is shown below.

The macro does not have to set the parts list style - that is controlled by the drawing Standard. It just needs to detect what it is, and place the list accordingly.
GIMP :: Threshold Function Parameters That Vary By Position?

My attempt to do this is by running the threshold function over theentire image. This appears to give the desired result, but onlylocally. It appears that the optimum parameters of the thresholdfunction vary by position (i.e., according to some scalar field), withone extreme in the center of the glare and then radiating outward. Sojust running the threshold function over the entire image withconstant parameters always gives sub-optimum contrast for 75% of theimage. Will I have to find a way to run the threshold function withnon-constant parameters, or is there some other tool to do the job?

Jan 17, 2014I was hoping to create a JS script to move objects away from common center based upon their current position. I was thinking to use a single selected path item as the center based on its position x/y and width/height. Using this reference point the script would then move away all other path items from this center point based on a desired amount and with uniform increments given their current location from this center. I was thinking cos and sin would be my friend in this case, however they seem to have become my foe instead. ;-)
Does this sound doable? What am I missing, doing wrong, misinterpreting? Below is a non-working attempt, I can't seem to sort things out, perhaps I was close and missed it or maybe I am super way off and its more complex than I thought. However at this point I am confused across my various failed attempts this only being one of them.

For example, when I want to draw a line in Y direction it moves in the X axis, and opposite if I draw in the X direction.

Apr 23, 2011I was just wondering, would it be possible to make 6 images of an environment I made in 3Ds max that would represent front, back, top, bottom, left and right sides of where my camera is positioned?
I would need the lens angle to be 90 degrees so that every image would connect with each other.
I'm pretty sure I could do this, but I never really adjusted the lens angle and I can't access my own computer at the moment. So I'm asking here!
The whole purpose for it is to make an area I can look around in, as my dad is doing this with photo's, using a little program to convert 6 images to one spherical environment. We were discussing it and came to the idea of making something similar to what he does with photo's, but instead of using photo's using a scene made in 3Ds max.

GIMP :: Tile Based Images - Pasting Transparent Pixels
Mar 5, 2013I have been using Gimp for a lot of "tile based" images, which feature layers composed of several "tiles" pasted into those layers. However, I just recently started creating transparent tiles, and pasting them.
One of the strangest things I have run into here is that I don't seem to be able to move my selection ( Floating Layer? ) if the opacity on the source pixels is 0.25 or less. Specifically, I do not get the usual "drag box" when I hover over the transparent pixels. Instead, I get the "anchor box" ( which seems to crop the pasted area before anchoring ). I tried this on a composite image with some more transparent pixels ( 0.25 ) and some more opaque pixels ( 0.26 ), and the "drag box" appears only over the more opaque pixels.
Why this might be happening? It could be that this is just context-sensitive cursor behavior which varies on transparency, and if so, is there another way to move the pasted selection?
GIMP :: How To Get Images To Print Out Based On Real Life Inches
Oct 14, 2013I am completely new to gimp I have an image that is 8in x 6in. It was previously edited in Photoshop on another computer thats how I know the actual size. When I load it into gimp, the image size is in real life the same, I can take a ruler to the screen and it measures 8in x 6in at 100% zoom. However, according to gimps rulers, the image is over 11in x 7in. So I measured what is one inch on gimps ruler and it is actually 3/8in in real life. When I create a grid to overlay the image, through Filters-Render-Patterns-Grid and I make the settings to be 1in x 1in, it too shows up based on gimps ruler measurements. I have the ruler set up in inches but a gimp inch is not a real life inch, and this shows up when I scale the image to 8in x 6in it actually makes the image 5 1/2in x 3 3/4in in real life when printed out. How can I get gimp to display a real life inch and how can I get my images to print out based on real life inches.

Nov 24, 2013In LR5 I wish to sort by file name. However my camera names files as ABC123, ABC124, ABC125 etc etc. Lightroom sorts such names as ABC3, ABC2, ABC5 etc because the numeral part of the name is looked as as an ascii not a numeral. I think!!
However whatever the reason, sorting such file names doesn't work. As each import may consist of several hundred files, renaming manually to avoid numerals isn't an option.
Is there a naming system that can be automated that would result in this type of sorting resulting in what a human would expect?
Filenames such as Garden(1), Garden(2) etc are no better by the way.
