Lightroom :: Sending Pictures To Online Printing Company
Aug 5, 2013
I want to send my pictures to an online printing company to get my prints. Do I use the "Print" module to set up how I want them printed or is that set up on the printing company website. In other words, is the Print module just used if you have a printer?

I have poster-sized file (32'' x 70'') that I need to send to my printing company. It will be printed at 200%. Will a PDF not be clear enough? There is one image. Do you need to "package" like in Indesign so they have the high res images and fonts?
Whats the best way to send a file for a high quality print?

I have hundreds of pictures from a recent trip that I want to print to a 4x6 print. The problem is that the pictures were taken in the incorrect ratio for this print size. I want the entire picture - with a white border around it if necessary. I can get Elements 9 to do this for me for home printing from the print screen and selecting the print size that I want. However, I want to upload these photos to an online printing service (snap fish, shutter fly, etc). I have tried using their digital print size option on Snap fish, but it still crops my pictures.
So,
1. How can I get elements to save the file for me in a compatible 4x6 ratio without cropping, that I can use to upload to a printing service?
2. How can I do this in a batch process as there are over 1000 pictures that have this issue?
3. If elements can't do this, what software can

I am trying to send a file to a newspaper for print. Only thing is Illustrator makes the files massive.
A normal newspaper ad ends up to be 58MB when converted to PDF. When i make something in Indesign it only exports to about 8MB for PDF.

how to get these two to work together? The support specifically mentions CS3 working with it and even mentions that CS3 will use ACR 4.6. When I tell LR4 to open a RAW file produced by my Canon XSi in Photoshop, I get a message that "this version of LR may require camera raw 7.0 for full compatibility". Then I can choose "render using lightroom", "open anyway", or "cancel". If I choose "open anyway" it opens up Photoshop but nothing else happens.
Eventually after a few minutes LR4 starts telling me it couldn't open Photoshop (even though it "magically" opened it a few minutes earlier) and when I click off that error, it comes up again, then a new error saying it couldn't send the file to Photoshop. After clicking away that message it then proceeds to make a copy of the file as a .psd (which I did set up in the LR4 preferences for external editor) and it opens up.
In the Library module or Develop module, select the photo you want to edit. Then, choose Photo > Edit In Adobe Photoshop. If you’re opening a camera raw or DNG file in Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) or later, it opens directly.

I can be online with a browser (Lenovo Thinkpad, lots of RAM, HD space) and have quick online response browsing to any Inet site. My six students with PCs and Macs using LR 5.3 in the Map module all get online by WiFi (Guest in the school building) in the same room. We're all on that same Guest network. At my home office with that computer, the Map module works perfectly on my WiFi LAN.
But in class, my laptop won't show the map that they are seeing. My map screen in the Map module is just black, and LR reports that the Map module is offline. The rest of the screen in that module looks normal. I test for computer being online at the moment = yes, and with wideband response. The connection is very good and responsive. The screen used to show the gray world map when it was offline, and recently the screen map area is just black. I disconnected the projector VGA cable, no change.
This happens consistently, every week - in the Map module they see the map, I have a black screen. Hard to teach when you can't illustrate.
What is going on in just that computer with identical software to students' and just when on that network when everything else works fine on my computer and theirs on that network.
It doesn't look like a hardware failure. There has to be a setting --- ? --- but there's nothing in the Prefs or Cat settings.

I have LR 5.3, Windows 7, 64 Bit, and Outlook 2013 64 bit, as my email client - FF 26.0 browser. When I send an email (no matter what size) from LR, I get an immediate error message "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Has Stopped Working". Then, "Windows Will close the program and notify you if it finds a solution to the problem" (which it never does).

when I send photos from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop (CS6), make changes and return to Lightroom, I will see a new frame with the changes I have just made. However, I notice that I lose my original enhancement settings from Lightroom. In other words, the enhancements on the photo are still there, but the sliders from the right hand tool bar have all been reset. Basically all the changes have been 'baked in' to the photo, so I can no longer make modify/delete the enhancements I originally made. This is particularly important when working with brushes.
Is there anything I can do to preserve these modifiers as I go back and forth between Lightroom and Photoshop?

I'm the only user on a new PC with Windows 7, with admimistrator privileges, and able to move files by LR 4.3 between these two drives. I use Thunderbird for email, and have validated my outgoing account in LR's Email Account Manager. My OS and apps are in drive D:, a HDD, and the main LR catalog is in drive C:, a SSD. In attempting to send email from LR I get the error message "unable to create temporary files on the volume C:" Attempting to email from a second catalog that resides in D, I get "unable to create temporary files on the volume D.

I can tell them to view two pages but the problem with that is it pushes the pages so they're seeing wrong images next to each other. Is there any software etc to sort this or has adobe already done it & i just need to find it?

I understand how to export files right from lightroom and save them as jpegs....
let's say i do some post processing in lightroom but want to do a couple of things in elements afterwards. i understand how to get the worked on image into elements (photo--edit in), but the file that is now in elements cannot be saved as a jpeg...is there a step i am missing, or do i have to get that image back into lightroom to then export out as a jpeg? if so how do you get the reworked file back into lightroom with the elements changes still intact?

When I hit "Delete" to delete a photo I usually get to choose between deleting original file or remove from Lightroom 5. Just now, am getting message: "The original file can not be deleted because it is missing or on a volume that is offline." I did not delete the original file. How can the file be returned to "online"?

I have created a lightroom 3 publish service that will export each photo as a huge TIFF file over a slow broadband connection to an external server. The external server creates 3 compressed JPEG files from the TIFF file.
I think this is too slow and that it would be much better if the lightroom publish service created those three files and then sent them over the internet. Please note I am using Mac OS X 10.8.5 and Lightroom 3.
My question is, what would be the best way to accomplish this task? Can lightroom compress the photo 3 times, or is it best to create another script on the local machine to accept each file, compress them, and then send them via the internet?

When using an HDMI link (from my Acer laptop) to an A/V receiver, no audio is sent over the HDMI when using Lightroom5 to play video clips, but it works OK when playing the same clips directly from the files). Playing YouTube videos, and tutorials, also work correctly (audio on the HDMI).(The audio is output from the laptop speaker, and the 3.5mm jack.)

I'm new to Lightroom and was attempting to prepare a file to send to a print lab. I want to produce a large format single image with dimensions of 52" x 36". I've prepared this in the 'print' module but when I press 'print to file...' it warns me that the file is 760mb and I may run out of memory! Is this file to large to sent to a printer, how can I reduce the size of the file without reducing the quality of the print? or is this just a standard file size for a large format printed image?

I know Photoshop can handle variables in text format so for example and that you can set a variable to be an image that'll change with alternate images but can Photoshop use a mix of the two to create images with variable fields for text?
Heres some examples:
These have been done in Directsmile (not by me) which after playing with the demo lets you import image sets of all the letters and it then uses those to make up the variable data for each print imported as a CSV file. They're not text with filters applied, they are tiffs with masks:
Now Directsmile obviously does all this, but seeings as Im paying for Photoshop CS6, I wondered if it could handle it?. If not Ill have to focus on Directsmile, even though it is PC only

I've recently received a small batch of calendars from a local commercial printers. The colours are OK, but do not match the originals, especially the blue's. I've had similar problems with greetings cards from a different printer. The problem appears to be that I supply the original files in the RGB color space, but they print using CMYK.
I Raw process using Lightroom 4, with adjustments if necessary being made using Elements 10. To the best of my knowledge neither of these programs have the option of editing or saving in the CMYK color space. For more accurate colours is my only option to purchase the full version of Photoshop (CS6 or CC), then convert and colour correct my images in CMYK mode before sending to the printers ?.
