Lightroom :: New Clarity Slider - Each Frame Introducing Random Variations In Tone?
Apr 11, 2012
I'm working on a time lapse sequence and when I apply the new clarity slider in LR4 to the batch of images the effect seems to apply itself very specifically to each frame introducing random variations in tone and exposure that cause unwanted "flicker" in the sequence. I'm adjusting one image and then syncing it's adjustments to the batch. Is there another way to do this that will apply a fixed value without reinterpreting each and every photo?

Why does the clarity slider seem different to me in LR4 (4.1 RC actually)? IN LR3 I loved that thing. I would ramp it up quite a bit with many photos. It would give it a nice crisp look. Now it seems as if it just makes my shots look like they have too much contrast. Also, when using the clarity brush, many times it seems as if where I paint it on it actually lightens it up. I havce had to look as see if I had the exposure tool on instead.
Also, I swear a "medium contrast" tone curve setting is different now as well. This was the default setting in LR3. Now default is linear. But if I apply a medium curve from the drop down, it looks over cooked? What the heck? Are these things just me? BTW I am working RAW files.

I'm working my way through Scott Kelby's 7-Point book and in lesson 7, I'm directed to adjust the clarity slider in Camera Raw but it's just not there! I see vibrance and saturation but no clarity. Can anyone help me find this baby?

Yes, I'm probably the only person on the planet that wants this, but I liked how the Auto Tone auto adjusted the Exposure slider (ONLY!) and left all the other sliders at zero in the Lightroom 4 beta.
Is there a way to write a preset that returns that behavior?

I'm experiencing some problems with the rendering of some videos on AE CS4. I haven't had this problem before.
When i first installed After Effects a few months ago, i tried to render videos and AE rendered them beautifully, without a single issue. After a while(some months) it started crashing in certain points of the videos, and after a while it couldn't render more than 300 frames(after 300 or less frames it crashed).
I tried all the solutions available in this site and other sites, but none of them worked. I suspected that my computer had became slower over time and assumed that that was the problem, so I decided to reformat(myself) it as soon as possible.
I thought i fixed the problem by formatting my PC. When i tried to render the same video , it couldn't go beyond 200 frames .how is it possible that before, AE could render the same video without crashing even once , and now (even after formatting) it can't go beyond 200 frames.
Detail: when AE renders the video, it begins very fast and just crashes at a random frame ( not at the same frame every time)
My PC specs:
Win7 ultimate SP1
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core E700 2
3.00 GHZ 2.99GHZ
INSTALLED Memory(Ram): 2.00 Gb (1,75 usable)
System type: 32-bit operating system

I recently took some Milky Way photos and was attempting to process them in Lightroom. Many of the effects I am using are hardly doing anything. I'll use clarity for an example.
I typically use the adjustment brush to add effects like clarity soley to the Milky Way. I find a setting of 40-60 is usually sufficient. Sliding the scale from -100 to 100 is DRAMATIC, making the Milky Way overly "pop" in a disgusting, artificial manner.
However, on my most recent batch when I applied a clarity of 50 I could hardly tell. Sliding the slider from -100 to 100 had a very small difference. Other effects are behaving similarly.
When I go back to my older photos the brushes seem to work. However, any of these new photos (which have various exposures settings) all behave similary in that I just can't get the effects to do much. The originals of my older photos and my new photos look comparable.

Fairly new to LR. I notice that whenver I import photos and open them up in the Develop module, the Clarity slider is set to 30 and the Vibrance slider is set to 25. I've repeatedly cleared the slider settings back to their defaults, but when I import another photo and open it up, the same exact thing happens.
Is this the way it's supposed to work? Is LR making auto adjustments based on what it thinks the image needs?

Somehow I managed to "disappear" the thumbnail slider for resizing that's usually shown in the bar just above the Filmstrip. Missing in Library, Develop and Slideshow modules. I don't see a pull-down where I can reselect it. Had difficulty searching for info in PDF. Using Lightroom 4.1, Windows 7.

I have Razer nostromo keypad for lightroom and photoshop. I bought it because of Paddy for lightroom but it's TOO massy and hard to mapping the shortcut. Moving those sliders without the mouse is impossible without the paddy right now... Is there any other program to control those sliders by keypad?

In LR5 when I go to use one of the 5 zone adjustment areas in the Develop module histogram, there is a 2 - 2.5 second delay before I can use them for each image. The individual sliders below, e.g., exposure, contrast, etc, don't exhibit the delay.
This is not the case with LR4.4... and it is a cause of frustration for me due to the slowdown in my wedding workflow. I'm on a Mac Quad Core, 12 GB, SSD, etc, so I'm not sure what the problem is, as I said there's no problem with 4.4. I searched but did not see this problem listed. Also, LR 5.2RC does not fix the problem.

With the attached raw file, and the below settings already in place, why is it that when I move the Highlights slider to the right, the image darkens, and to the left, it lightens? Something rather odd is happening in the lower half of the histogram. The original file has very low contrast. I haven't seen this behavior with other files.I'm Using LR 5.3 in Windows.

In Lightroom 3 when you moved through images these modify keys (+ and -) would always remain at the temperature slider. It seems to now always default to exposure. Is there anyway you can change this?

I'm trying to work out the optimal workflow for doing HDR (using HDR EFEX 2) on a set of images. I can apply LR's Lens Correction (Nikon, 17-55mm F2,8) and chromatic aberation removal on the whole set set (using LR Sync) before I export to HDR - then turn off the Chromatic Aberation fix in HDR - and that gives me one workflow.
However, that makes a lot of changes to the TIF's before I go in - so I am wondering if it would be better to export the RAW files converted to TIF using minimal changes from LR e,g, no CA fix or Lens Profile correction; let the HDR do its thing and then make profile corrections, Upright, etc upon return from HDR. However, when I get back from HDR and go into Develop with the returned file and go to Lens Correction, I cannot chose the 17-55mm F2.8 lens from the drop downs. There are only about 4 or 5 lenses now showing as Nikon possibilities-and the 17-55 is NOT among them.
How come I don't still see the full list of Nikon profiles - shoudln't I be able to apply any profile to a TIF (even an incorrect one) ?
I tried pasting the Develop Settings from a virtual copy where I had set the Lens Profile to 17-55 F2.8 - but that only turns on the Lens Profile 'filter' and does not actually force-on the specific correction.

Why would Lightroom give a sepia tone to anything I am working on? This only happens if I am using my AOC 27" monitor. The menus are still white, only the work gets the sepia added. Now the strainge part, if I switch to a different monitor, the problem goes away. I also use Photoshop and have no problem.

I imported tiff images into Lightroom 4 that were scanned by DigMyPics.com. The color of the images look good on the Windows 7 photo viewer. It looks horrible in Lightroom 4. My monitor is callibrated, the import develop setting is set to "none" , the box is unchecked "apply auto tone adjustments".I think that the windows viewer is showing the accurate color of the scan and LR is not. I don't think DigMyPics would send this awful color.

the temp and tint scale are grayed out. impossible to have all images with same exp/contrast/etc.i have been told that when presenting a b&w body of work, all printed images have to have a similar tone.
