View 2 RepliesI just upgraded to LR4. I have a number of images that I converted to black and white using Silver Efex pro directly from Lightroom 3. I also have scans of images from black and white negatives in my catalog. When updating these images from process 2010 to process 2012 in LR4 each image becomes ever so slightly warmer (dirtier) on the screen. I noticed this because when updating the process I checked the review changes via before/after box. Some of the images where tweaked a bit in lightroom 3, others not. Strange thing is that when I run the cursor over the images the RGB values in the histogram are exactly the same in the before and after images.
I would have to say the before looks cleaner and more neutral. I don't mind using process 2010 for previously worked on images; however, it does seem to defeat the purpose of upgrading.
When in Library I have noticed a glitch. When using the right & left arrow keys to navigate the images, sometimes the keys do not work and I receive an error tone. To rectify the error I have to go out of Library and then back in again. The same sometimes happens when I am in the develop module.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a pretty standard workflow for my pictures, where i import as dng, adjust exposure and a few general parameters, and then convert them to black and white in Silver FX. But, there's one specific image that, when exported, looks warmer in the browser than in lightroom. I have investigated a bit on this, and here's what i've tested so far, without luck:
- Set color profile to v2 in colormunki.
- Recalibrate monitor and refresh color profile (colormunki).
- Set firefox gfx.colormanagement.mode to 1.
- Set color mode to black and white in LR. Re processed the image from scratch. Re exported.
This is the exported image:

there's a distinct warmish cast to the first image that i don't see on LR, and that i can't quite get rid of.
When importing some of the images have a warning triangle indicating that LR is having trouble reading the photo. Subsequently the rendering of the 1:1 previews stalls.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to filter images before importing them in Lightroom?
ScenarioI work with an extensive image collection stored on a server. The images contain a full set of metadata, including keywords and more. When I work on a specific project, I import the images into a Lightroom collection. That way I can easily review, rate and add additional keywords to those best-of images.
The challenge is that the images I want to add are from numerous folders. Plus, I often only want to add some images from those folders (not the entire folder). This collection process can be very time consuming -- manually locating the images and checking/unchecking the ones I want and repeating the process for the different folders the images reside in.
The process could be greatly simplified (and a lot faster) if I could filter/search for images that contain key words or other metadata to find the full set of images I want to import.
The key is that I’m not using a workflow to simply import all images from a memory card or download folder. I’m working from a large collection of existing images and want to import a subset of those images.
I imported images into Lightroom from a folder I created on my desktop, I got images from Iphoto, and now Lr tells me images are "offline". I cannot work on them. I haven't purchased license yet and am using the 30 trial, though I don't thing that should matter.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I import images from my memory card, the images in preview are colored but when rendered in LR4, they are automatically converted to black and white. I made sure that in the import panel that 'Import During Import'> Develop Settings> None. My images show up in LR4 colored for an instance then convert to black and white. This is the first time I have encountered this problem. Am I missing something. I've checked my camera settings with nothing that I believe is the problem. I've been successful in using the other presets under 'Apply during Import' > Develop Settings, but using 'None' doesn't prevent the images from being converted to black and white in LR4. the same is true for importing to Bridge in PS-CS6. I get the same results of all the images being converted to black and white.

Locating the images through the '?' icon achieves nothing.
How can I import images into a new LR library and retain the existing metadata for each image? It only seems possible to import and apply new metadata or to import without applying metadata which means the existing metadata is not imported...?

When I open The Lightroom, I do see the Tabs such as: Library Develop and other Tabs on the Top of page.
When I click on Import and I choose a folder I do see all the pictures of that folder in the middle of the page,,But The Tabs such as Library ,Develop, and other Tabs disappear. I am watching a Video Tutorial and I think I am doing some thing wrong.
LR 5 is unable to show images of my photos when importing from my Cannon EOS 400. LR3 was able to. Now, in each image frame, I get a message "image not available". The images import correctly, and I can edit them, but I am not able to prescreen them, etc. prior to importation. I have not installed the EOS raw management software. The only other photo editing software I use is IrfanView, as a quick viewer only. I'm running Windows 7, on a Dell Quad core, with mobile NVidea card and plenty of memory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has been happily using / importing Sony Nex 7 Raw images into Lightroom 4.2 / 4.3 for a long time when suddenly this happens.
Note the grey border all around the image.
This file was imported with: No develop presetNo metadata preset.Process 2012.Various std in the box profiles. Here is a screen paste of the file dimensions (also showing that it is a raw file and not cropped).
All Sony Nex raw files imported to a particular machine (Win 7, 64 bit) demonstrate this behaviour. So, in trying to trace the problem.
The crop tool was checked to make sure there was no crop applied. They grey border is not just a visual border. If you examine the jpg it is actually grey pixels consuming a large percentage of the native 6000x4000 Nex 7 resolution. The Reset button was pressed also,to make sure the raw file conversion was restored to basecamp.History reset.A raw image imported into the same machine / software from a Nikon D300 behaves perfectly.Previously imported Nex 7 Raw images are ok.When the images are imported into two other machines they imports perfectly.Scrapping the preference file makes no difference.Overlay mode was checked, an overlay image loaded and then overlay mode turned off… just to make sure this was NO overlay.Applying a crop and then removing a crop still leaves the grey border.Applying the crop reduces the image dimensions to approx.. 4946 x 3293. Exporting an image to jpg (as shown) leaves image with grey border. This grey border can be cropped out, but it means the resolution will reduce.Exploring various scene modes / in camera crops / resolution settings on the camera does not seem to make any difference.Formatting the card in the camera, take a picture, import directly from card. 3 different cards used. (No change). When using the Catelog on a different machine the grey border remains.
NB Camera set to RAW + jpeg. Jpeg's import without border.
So finally last night…
……. we uninstalled Lightroom 4.3 and re-installed into a different folder. (No change).
I have tested the card reader, another card (which also imports images on a angle), and importing images through Iphoto - incidentally importing images correctly. The images are fine viewed on the back of my D800. I'm thinking it must be the upgrade as I've never experienced this before.

Is there a way to import all these images along with their assigned keywords into Lightroom 4 at one time? View 1 Replies View RelatedLR4 seems to have a bug when importing images from a camera where it randomly does not display a thumbnail of the image before invoking the import process. Usually it is whole blocks of images following a few that are properly shown. Perhaps it is dropping the communication link to the camera early?
Furthermore, once the images are imported, different images are not displayed in the thumbnail panel with filters off.
I have been doing identical import procedures on all previous versions of LR without any similar behavior.

I have been using Duotone with my photos, but since the other day, everytime that I process a photo this way, when I convert then back to RGB mode, the dark (black) areas of the photo become a kind of bitmap of red pixels. I have tried with many different photos from RAW or JPEG files and I get the same result with all of them.
This is an example of the issue. The original is on the left. What may cause this? The photo looks good in duo tone. It is when converting to RGB when the corruption happens.
How I can get the Tone Curve back. I've done all the usual checks. One day it was there and the next it was gone.
I'm using a MacBook Air. (no problem with LR5 on my MBP)
