Lightroom :: Metadata Not Showing Up In Folders But On Desktop Only
Feb 4, 2014
When exporting photos from lightroom on to my desktop, I am able to view all the Metadata information when "getting information". However, that information does not show up when the photos are exported into individual folders within the computer. I am exporting the files the exact same way, so I am not sure why the information is not appearing the same.
I have a new desktop and want to transfer the files from lightroom on my laptop to my new version of lightroom on my desktop. Every method that I've tried thus far has resulted in the original files being transferred without any of the associated processing.
Best way to simply pass these folders from lightroom on one computer to another.
successfully imported one of 6 folders from laptop to ext drive. opened catalog in ext drive just fine. all images included metadata, keywords and appropriate collections show up. when i import from ext drive to desktop the images appear without any additional info. cannot figure out what i am doing wrong. initially imported all 6 folders from lap to ext to deskptop. not all images copied, collections were screwed up. everything was screwed up. that's when i decided to just try one ata time. creating new catalog each time. would like to include in existing catalog in desktop. until i can get it right, maybe i should create new catalog in desktop and then merge catalogs.
I have LR 3.5 on my windows desktop and my laptop . I have 4 folders on my laptop with many edits to the photos. I need to copy to folders, photos, and edits from my laptop to the LR on my desktop. I'd like to get them into the LR on my desktop with the original photo as well as the edits as oppossed to exporting the edited photos. I've done this before and forgot how to do it. How to copy everything to my desktop?
I just purcgased an iMac (and installed LR3) after running LR3 on a MacBook for several months. Is there a straightforward way to copy all of my content (folders, collections and catalog) from the laptop to the desktop? I'm essentially trying to duplicate what's in my laptop LR3 on my desktop LR3.
I've made development changes in Lightroom to photos on my laptop. However, they aren't showing up when I import them to my desktop (I'm not applying any import settings upon import).
I'm having a new problem after installing LR 3.6 update on my Mac running OSX Lion 10.7.2.
When importing a new batch of photos, the folder containing those new photos is not listed on the left-hand side "Folders" tab where they should be. The photos exist in my catalog, and work fine. I can search for them by date, and they are indeed on my hard drive in the correct folder. LR just isn't showing the folder. I've tried importing a number of ways, including Moving the photos, Copying them, or simply Adding them with similar results. I can create new folders using "Create Folder inside..." just fine, and that folder remains perfectly useable. When I try to create a new folder in LR named the same as one of the invisible folders, it says that folder name is already taken. This happens on local drives and external drives.
I've tried repairing permissions on my local disk, and verifying the external drives in Disk Utility. I could solve this manually, and create the folders myself in a series of re-names and file moving. But this is not a good workflow for me. I'm hoping this is a temporary bug with the new release.
LR5 stopped listing my previously imported folders/files from my external drive. They show up in the Import dialogue but as the images were previously imported, they are "grayed out" and cannot be reimported. How do I get LR to list them?
I'm not even sure I can explain so I attached this screen capture. LR4 is showing two 'FSE-PHOTO' external hard drives when it is really only one. It has the same folder on both called 20120523_straight_down on each but in each folder there are 4 images even though it says 3. Two of those images are swapped and I think thats why it says 3. I have tried Updating Folder location. I have tried Synchronizing the Folder. I have tried deleting the top folder called 20120523_straight_down which then gets rid of the top FSE-PHOTO. After that I try to add the missing fourth image to the other 20120523_straight_down folder and it just adds back that second FSE-PHOTO mystery drive.
All of this happened after I moved the catalog and images to this external drive and then ran Carbon Copy Cloner to back it up to a second external drive. Once that was done I restarted LR4 and began to work on an image in PS6. When I closed that image adn went back to find the Edit version in LR4 I couldn't find it. Once I did find it after searching All Photographs with its file name I saw that there were two FSE-PHOTO folders. When I tried all the trouble shooting above I disconnected the backup drive.

I had LR 3 then upgraded to LR 4 and everything was fine. My hard drive crashed last week so had to have it replaced. my images were safe on my Drobo. I got my pc back today and am reinstalling all my software. I reinstalled LR3 then went to adobe and downloaded my upgrade to LR4. When I started LR4 it asked if I wanted to update all of my LR3 files so they would be compatible with LR4 and I said yes. I think that was my mistake. Now I can see all my old files but none of my images or folders from the time I upgraded to LR4 until now. How do I view all of my more current folders and images? I haven't moved any of them...they were all on my Drobo and are still there so it's not that I moved the files outside of LR.
i tried to search the problem but nothing exactly the same...im sure the answer is here somewhere but im running out of time... I literally just installed it.. then opened it to this..and yes ive restarted the program etc..
I have been using Photoshop for a long time. And I am running PS6 on my Macbook Pro and 27"iMac.I am currently having a situation where Photoshop appears on my desktop and when I try to scroll to a different desktop view, PS screen view still populates it. That only happens on my iMac...not the laptop.I can't seem to find any preference to adjust.
I have CS6 and am using Photoshop, but when I try to open any image on my desktop the `open with` option does not include Photoshop CS6, only other Adobe applications; even when I browse I can only find the Adobe systems file, with the .exe doc; I have a lot of images to edit, preferably without having to open Photoshop and individually open them from their folders; how to make Photoshop CS6 `open-with`-able for any desktop/external hard drive images?
I had two 2013 folders, each with about 100 daily folders. The dates were differnt in each annual folder. I dragged one into the other. The folder where the daily folder was dragged from is now empty but those folders do not appear in the recieving folder. All the photos are still in the catalog, but do not show in the folders (left side panel).
I renamed a lot of my photo folders in Explore. Now in LR4, all these folders appears with an ?. I can't work on pictures from these folders - I get the message: File named xxx is offline or missing. It does not sync the parent folder. Nor does it sync the folder it self. If I right clik on a LR4 folder with a ?, and try to locate the folder, I only get the option to merge the identical folders. Is there any way to sort this. I can't restore the old folder names.
I am using LR3. I appear to be digging a massive hole for myself trying to sort out the catalog. When I first got LR, I had initially added just a small number of files just to see how LR worked. At this time I was still completing sorting out my full photo collection in 'my pictures' which were also copied to two external hard drives. Once that work was completed, I imported a complete folder (some 4000 images) into LR. The folder/subfolders appeared in the folders panel but the sub folders I had initially imported were displayed with a ? and a message 'file is missing or offline' Going down the road of 'find missing folder' eventually led to my problems.
About 6 sub folders are involved so I eventually took the decision that it could be easier just to remove them so I could then re-import them from 'my pictures'. That hasn't worked out as planned. When I go into 'file' to import photos from 'my pictures' the missing sub folders are there but the images are 'greyed' as well as the import button. When I put the cursor onto one of the greyed-out images the message 'appears to be a duplicate of another photo already in catalog' appears.
how I can restore the 'missing' sub folders into the folders panel.
Whenever I try to open a file through my pictures folder, the images (no thumbnails, etc) show up. I have to go through my pictures manually, then put the image into a folder on my desktop in order to open them through gimp.
I have a black background on the panels and the selection keywords, folders etc., are gray. This is verrrrry hard to work with for me. It LOOKS very nice but I need to change to a light gray background with black type. The preferences do not allow for this change.
I recently imported all my iPhoto photos into LIghtroom...all went pretty well (some of the metadata didn't make the transfer for reasons unknown, even though I imported all of the photos as jpg files).
I'm stumped by what is most likely a VERY simple thing with a VERY simple answer:
How can I import (and move during the import into the LR5 catalog) a single photo from my Mac desktop?
The online support covers importing from folders, cameras, SD cards, etc...but doesn't mention importing a single photo that's already on my Mac. I've tried dragging the file onto the LR icon in my dock. LR starts up...but doesn't import the file. (Or if it did, I can't find it, since there's no "Last Import" selection in the Navigator panel).
I recently purchased a new Mac Desktop and I would like to transfer my lightroom from my pc to a mac desktop. I am not very savvy on when it comes to this...the apple store will transfer all my files except for software...
I downloaded the LR5.3 file: Lightroom_5_LS11_mac_5.3.dmg and then clicked on the file to open it. After installing, the Lightroom 5.3 icon appears on the top right of my Mac desktop, however, when i open Lightroom from Finder>Applications it still shows LR5.2C. So I clicked on the LR5.3 icon on the top right of my screen and it gives me the original box that I already clicked to install LR5.3.
Exported images from lightroom 3.6 to my desktop are much inferior to the image on Lightroom in color, sharpness, detailes ext. I tried all the export combinations I could and the problem remains.
