I'm always getting "metadata file needs to be updated" notification for two TIFF files, not for others. I'm saving them to the disk, after two seconds they are giving the same notification ... I'm not touching my hands even to the keyboard ...
View 2 RepliesLR 4.1 latest ver.I post process a CR2 file in Lightroom. I then add text to the Title field.Export as jpg using a pre-defined export preset.
I then notice that I have a typo in the Title field.
Correct the typo / text in the CR2 parent file using Lightroom.
Re-export again (same export preset)... answering yes to overwrite file (and Yes to all metadata).
Surprise ...surprise... the Title data is not updated in the exported file (ie by viewing the metadata in the g or e view.
I delete the jpg
Export again ...yes... same preset export settings.
Metadata on jpg is correct.
So, it looks to me that Lightroom is not updating the metadata when exporting and overwriting an existing image.
Is this normal or a bug.
With the release of 4.2 now supporting Fuji X-E1, does this update fixes Fuji X-Pro 1 raw files?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI wonder when, and if, it is necessary to save metadata to the file? I copy RAW images from the camera card to DNG data type. I once accidentally deleted an edited image with unsaved metadata. I discovered the image I re-imported from my recycle bin was the original image without the updates I applied. I assume if I had saved the metadata for the image, the edits would have been brought back. Other than losing edits and other metadata when accidentally deleting an image, is there any other reasons I should save metadata to the file?
In a related question, is the original image without the metadata accessible in any other software except Lightroom if the metadata has been saved to the image file?
I've got a whole bunch of files in a catalogue that have had the metadata changed locally. I want to overwrite with the metadata thats in my LR cat. When I select them all and choose metadata>save metadata to files the little "!" dissapears from only file ata time. I matters not which module I'm in or if I go library > save metadata.
EDIT: I tried deleting the local XMP files and I get the same result
how the "save metadata to file" works. I had a corrupt catalog and thought I lost all my edits. I then read about this save feature and how it can protect me from a corrupt catalog by saving my edits. Does doing this overwrite my original file? Does saving the metadata destructively save the edits to the file? Is there a way to retrieve my original file after "saving metadata to the file" or do I need to save the orginals on a seperate harddrive?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got the message, "Photos have read-only access," when trying to save the metadata into a DNG file. I'm on windows 7, and just upgraded to Lightroom 5. The files in Windows have full write and read ability. What am I doing wrong? Or what box do I need to check or uncheck to be able to save my metadata into the DNG files. My catalogue is on an internal drive. The actual images are on an external drive.

At present Eye-Fi haven't been able to resolve the fact that geodata isn't added to the Raw (nef) file so I am shooting in Raw+jpeg. Is there a way to sync the metadata from the jpeg to the nef file within LR4? Will this be written to the raw file, to a sidecar file or the LR database?

I assumed that non-destructive meant not changing the original file in any way, and this rewrites the file and thus changes the modification date. And if the Develop settings are included, then doesn't that confuse things as to which version will be displayed by an application that opens it? Do I need to store the original somewhere else? Or am I misunderstanding how this all works?
View 15 Replies View RelatedAt one time I was able to export a file's original file name in the "Raw Data" area of the metadata. I seem to have lost that ability in LR 4. I find this useful when a client renames a file and then wants me to find the original. I would open the file in Photoshop (or even a word processor) and the original name would be in the Raw Data area in File Info.
When LR 4 imports the file the first time, it apparently still creates the xmp file with the file name at the end of <rdf:Description rdf:about="" field and it looks like: crs:RawFileName="_DSC6501.NEF">
At one time Lightroom exported that info. But now I seem to have lost that file name info, even with "Export All Metadata" selected.
This is how it would look in Photoshop's File Info:

I am updating capture time based on GPS Time (a bit OCD, I know) but when I change Capture Time the Date Time Digitized value does not change. This in in LR 4.3 and is not affected by whether on not the Catalog is set to 'Write date or time changes into proprietary raw files'.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI shot using an eye-fi card. The card autmatically generates a xmp file with geodata in it. LR auto imports these images and adds lens correction and a copy right tag.
What I can't do is automatically is get LR to read the xmp file and include this in the catalogue. I am having to right click images and select read metadata from file.
There must be a better work flow then this.
For over 15 years I've been using a cataloging system written in VB6, as the writing is well and truly on the wall for VB6 I'm considereing moving to LR, but it's not clear if I can import all the existing data.
The data is not embedded in the images for the most part because we are talking old 5x4 neg scans etc.
I have access to the source code of my existing program and can therefore export the database fields in any format, CSV being the most obvious choice but I suppose I can write the code to export to anything.
So my question is, is there a mechanism to import such data, either when the photos are originally imported or assign the data to them post-import. And please don't suggest cut & paste, there's 20,000 pics

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to force Snapshots and Virtual Copies to read metadata from the original raw file after an update of the same?
I had to change the lens name on some Leica M9 files to correct an operator (me) error, and I did it by editing the exif data with an exif editor and then forcing LR4 to read the metadata from the file. This worked well for everithing but the snapshots and the virtual copies on which the metadata remain as originally registered, unchanged.
Is it possible to stop the PDF slideshow exports from LR from automatically advancing? I want it to remain on the slides until I hit the cursor button (like I can do from within LR.) My pdf slideshows, however, keep auto-advancing. I can get it to advance FASTER in either direction by hitting the cursor buttons, but I can't "stop" it from auto-advancing completely, which is what I want.
The LR slideshow export page says that "Adobe Acrobat transitions use a fixed speed," but I thought that this meant that you couldn't change the speed of the transition itself. Can you also not change the "rate of advancing" to the next slide?
I have been finding that when i have a process running that requires some time to complete in LR 4.3 (e.g creating timelapses, or exporting large sets of images, or creating many 1:1 previews), that if my mac goes to sleep these processes stop. When I wake my Mac again these processes start up again though.
After a little reading I seem to have found that the latest mountain lion upgrade has removed a macs ability to check hard drive activity before going totaly to sleep. So previously the screen will be sleeping but processes can run in the background. If what I have read is accurate this is also true for downloads and other processes. Furthermore they go on to say that applications now have to create "power assertions" to keep processes running.
I assume Lightroom does not yet have these? Are they looking into it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen a raw file badge shows that the file has been changed, I use Metadata Save to File & for the large majority of my images, the badge goes away and Metadata Status Changed does not show the file. For some of my files, however, the Save to File command doesn't work properly. If I am only displaying files with changes, the file briefly disappears, then returns. Even if I go to Windows Explorer and delete the xmp file, then again Save metadata to file, it pops up again with the badge saying it needs to be saved. I'm using Lightroom 4.3 64 bit on Windows 7.

For example what was once located at W:FilesAutoCAD is now located at W:CorporateAutoCADDrawings. The problem is every time we open an old drawing for the first time we must redirect all of the xrefs to the new location. My question is, is there any way to do this automatically for all drawings when they are opened? Is there a way to tell the software to replace "FilesAutoCAD " with "CorporateAutoCADDrawings"? I'm sure others have encountered this dilemma.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI just created a smart collection to take images from a shoot, all of which have a keyword something like
20120403 Sample shoot name
and give me all images from this shoot with 4 or 5 stars. I defined the smart collection with keyword-starting-with that string and rating at least 4. I got all but two of the images. I looked and there was no bug - two images were missing the keyword. When I corrected this, in LR 3 I was accustomed to the dynamic collection's immediate update. However, now in LR 4 (Win 7), the collection didn't update. I tried switching views in Library, such as to the shoot itself, but the collection didn't update. I closed LR and reopened it, and the collection was now updated with all images that should be in it. This appears to be a bug to me.
I updated to 4.3 today and I was still unable to import my D600 NEF/RAW files. After I updated, I rebooted and it seemed like I could actually import the D600 NEF files. However a few moments later, somehow those images were no longer in my catalog/library and when I try to reimport them again it says the files are not compatible and no preview was available during the import screen.
Win 7, 64-bit
LR 5.3 has been running fine since I updated several weeks ago--Mac Mavericks

I am currently working on a school group project that requires me to submit all inventor files as "LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_PART,ASSY,DRAWING,etc..NAME". My original parts were all done in mm instead of cm, so for our project, I opened all new files and derived the same parts at a different scale to fix this scale issue between the members. For the new derived parts I temporarily allowed the file name to remain as part1, part2, part3.... and continued with the assembly. Now that my assembly is complete and I would like to change my part file names to the required format, my assembly will not show the parts and (?) symbol is shown by all parts with updated file names. I also changed the original file names and now the new derived parts, when opened, have the same (?) which I assume is related to the fact that the derived parts are dependent on the original file. Is there a way to update this information? We are using INVENTOR 2013.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFour days ago I updated to LR 3.6. Two days ago I got malware and part of the solution was to System Restore my computer to before the LR 3.6 update. Then I used MalwareBytes to remove the malware. My computer seems to be working fine but now I can't open LR.
On my C: drive I still have LR 3.6 Files but my shortcut to open LR says it is 3.5. I found a LR 3.5.exe file but clicking on it does nothing.
When will Lightroom be updated to accommodate Canon 6d RAW files?
