Lightroom :: Library Module In 4.3 Version Doesn't Show All Images
Jan 22, 2013
The library module in the version 4.3 of Lightroom does not show all the images. They are marked with gray boxes instead of images. This is especially true of the images which I tried to import to Lightroom since I downloaded 4.3 a few weeks ago. If I want to seen an image, I have to go to the develop module to see it.
For some reason images in the library module aren’t as sharp compared to the develop module. If I’m in develop images are nice and sharp but as soon as I select the library you can see the image quality drop and image becomes less blurry!
I wish we could have the "reveal clipping" feature in Library, so while we are reviewing sharpness, we can also toss clipped pix. Now we have to go to develop and go thru them all over again AND the 1:1 previews are slow there.
I want to show only the lowest level of folders in my LR LIbrary module. Used to do that but somehow got changed. Now shows parent folder, 2nd and 3rd levels. If I uncheck INCLUDE SUBFOLDERS it just gives me a zero photo count for the parent but still shows the folder and I still ahve to click levels to get to the photos. If I right click on parent folder....someone said to click Promote Subfolders......I do ot have this choice!
I've been having problems selecting images in the library module when multiple images are in view (not down in the timeline, but in the main window). It seems sporadic with which ones it won't let me select, it somehow manages to be the ones that I need to click....!! I just literally can't click it as if it were an image I already imported or something, but it's not grayed out like that. I've been having to select a nearby image then use my arrow keys to navigate to and click the image I need.
For no reason I can think of, sometimes the photo I see is different from the one that should be there. The correct one shows up in Develop, but I don't understand why Library shows a different one. Sometimes all the images in a folder get shifted over by one, or sometimes one is a duplicate view of another. And then for no reason it seems to resolve. But meanwhile I'm afraid to export the catalog to copy on another computer for fear that I'm exporting incorrect data.
Somehow, the little triangle that opens and closes the Quick Develop Module in my Library has become solid, so it no longer pops the menu open when I glide my cursor over to the right side of a full screen image. How do I get the Quick develop module triangle to have that shadow look again so that when I glide the cursor to it the module opens.
I must have changed this with a keystroke or something but for the life of me I cannot get it back and it's driving me crazy. I do not like the module open all the time and it's a pain to use the keystroke or click the triangle each time I need to make a quick adjustment. I hope this is not an upgrade change. I notice it is the same in my develop module.
I am having trouble with the Raw fies that have been adjusted in the Develop Module loosing all of their luster and pop when switching back to Library and exporting. In other words, my adjustments are generally flattened out and colors muted when going from Develop to Library. I see that the Camera Calibration shows only ONE profile option: Matrix. However, the same single option for my 7D is also Matrix but the Raw files appear to hold my adjustments after being made in the Develop module.
I've been having problems with LR 5.2 when I do sharpening (and sometimes spot removal) in the develop module. It looks fine in the develop pane, but when I move to library module the sharpening and spot removal disappear (and reappear when I switch back to develop). The exported images are the same as the view in Library mode. How do I get the exported images to have the sharpening and spot removal that I've done in develop?
I have gone through the process of hitting alt/option when in develop to reset default settings in develop to no avail as the images keep being altered whether you are simply viewing in All photos in library module or a single image in develop .
I occasionaly edit nudes on my home computer, where my kids have access. Is there a way to keep these images hidden, their location hidden or have them not show in the library thumbnails?
I have used Lightroom since version 1.0 and at the moment I am using v3.3.
Now I have following problem and I can't find a solution for it: In the Navigator I have synchronized my complete folder where I store all of my photos. This folder contains more than 50000 photos already in many subfolders. But now I found some subfolders not showing all their content. I can see in the Navigator e.g. 216 pictures beside the folder name but in the preview I can see only 3 pictures! And I found some more folders which doesn't show their full content.
I tried to sychronize the single folder again but Lightroom says there were no new pictures and also no missing pictures to remove from the folder. If I open the folder by the Windows Explorer then I can see that all the files for the 216 pictures are there! So there must be a problem with the lightroom database!
But now I don't know what to do to get the pictures displayed in the library again.
I would like to use the Library Filter to show images that have a keyword of "Wildflowers" and an empty title. I can do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to have two text filters ANDed together.
Sharpening applied in develop module is not shown when switching back to library module. It looks the problem occurs when having size to "FIT". With 1:1 there seams to be no issue. Export also looks fine in 1:1.
I use Mac 10.9.1, LR5.3, Nikon NEF 24Mbit from D600.
I am running LR4 ver4.3. All of a sudden I receied an error message stating cannnot switch to module. I have tried all the usual stuff before going out to the web to look for fixes. On adobe's site they recommended 6 things which I did exactly as instructed and still nothing..I am running iMac mountain lion and everything on my computer is up to date.
After making changes to an image (sharpening, exposure, contrast, etc, etc) in the develop module, when I head over to the library module, the image does not show the latest changes. What's worse is when I export a JPG of the image, it exports the original! What's the point in having LR?
A .psd file with layers created in a full version of Photoshop CS6 does not show the layers in my CS6 Extended version. I am still using the trial version of Extended pending registration.
I have a trial version of Illustrator and am finding that glyphs with no unicode are not accessible. If I double-click on the glyph, I get a blank space or a question mark. Is this a function of the trial version?
For some inexplicable reason, on my LR 4, the word Library is not listed at the top of the home page where the other 6 module names are...Devleop, Map, etc.
I am using LR 5.3 and in Library Module, below Metadata is a field for Comments. However, in that field, it says "Selected service does not support comments".
I can find no information on how to use this or how to 'legitimately' add comments to a photo. I have seen where people suggest adding comments into unused Metadata fields but that seems like a crude work around. What is the purpose of the "Comments" section in the Library Module?
When processing a photograph in the Develope Module, once completed, I then return to the Library Module and notice that the same photograph is not as sharp as it was in the Develope Module.
When i'm editing photos in the develop module they look really clear and good. When i switch to the library, they have a lot of noise and look nothing like how I edited them. I am using lightroom 4 for my mac. It's annoying to have to switch between the develop module and library to see what they are going to look like.
I happened upon a rather odd glitch whilst using LR5 this evening, possibly related to the bug that's been discussed on here where images selected in grid view in a publish collection don't correspond to the selections indicated in the film-strip. However, it's not quite the same thing...
I noticed that the display under the histogram had a rectangle with a '2' next to it. I had no idea what that represented (just getting used to some of the LR5 changes) and had to consult the PDF to find out. It in fact indicated that I apparently had two images currently selected, both of which were original images with no smart-previews. Fair enough (not using smart-previews), expect that I only had one image selected, not two. I repeatedly tried deselecting all images (ctrl-d), but as soon as I re-selected one image, the '2' symbol re-appeared. Switching modules/view/moving between various collections and 'all photographs' failed ot prevent this - it was stuck on telling me I had two images selected no matter what.
6 seconds to select three images in the grid? I've done all the things recommended by the FAQ's for optimizing Lightroom's performance. My PC setup as reported by Lightroom is below. My catalogue contains fewer than 30,000 images. I don't use stacks. I don't automatically write to XMP. I'm running LIghtroom alone on a freshly started Windows 8 session. All my other software runs fine. Version 4 seemed to run fine.

I attended Matt's Kozlowski's LR4 seminar a few months ago. He talked about not using dates to organize your folders but instead use a meaningful description.
So at the time of IMPORT, I add the metadata, keywords and rename the folder to something meaningful. He said the folders cold still be found by date.
So.....on a recent trip to NEW HAMPSHIRE, i did some work, imported files into LR and renamed the files at import into my PICTURES directory on my laptop.
Now that I am home I am exporting as a catalogue but only the dates and not the names I gave at IMPORT for the folders appear in the library module.
DOI now have to go back at the destination and rename all the folders
I must be missing something.
I want to transfer all this work to my main computer but I will just be going back to bad habits using dates to name files.
