Lightroom :: Keep Folders From Expanding When Dragging Images Into Them?
Dec 6, 2011
How do i set lightroom to stop exanding folders every time i drag an image of subfolder into it. It is mind blowingly annoying. I just want to drag and drop without lightroom assuming that I want the folder to be opened. Nothing should expand unless i tell it to. Its not hard to hit the little expand arrow. Right?
I am trying to drag and drop files out of one folder and put into a subfolder in the library module but it wont let me and I am wondering if there is a navigation menu that will allow me to do the same?
Just upgraded to Lightroom4. Previously, if I selected a collection and a folder in a catalog, only the images found in both the collection and the folder would appear on screen. Now all the images from either the collection or the folder are shown. Is there a way to get the old way back?
I currently have two external hard drives where I have all my bird photos classified into folders by the name of the bird. There are more or less a hundred. I have one external hard drive where I import all the photos to and the other external where I backup the first external hard drive every night. They are getting full and I will soon have to purchase two more, but I was wondering how I could export all the folder hierarchy into the new external hard drive. It surely will be a chore to have to create each one again.
Lightroom wont allow me to move or rename either single images or folders within lightroom. Keep getting an unknown error occurred message. All images are currently on an external hard drive.
I have been exporting photos into a folder called edited in my originals folder. then i delete the originals and dump the edited into the main folder. but then i can no longer access the photos in lightroom because it says the file is missing. what am i doing wrong? do i have to keep originals and edited photos in my folders? i try to export to replace originals but that doesnt work and it will only work if i put in sub folder. i dont want to keep a copy of originals and edited, but i also dont want to not be able to make more edits in the future.
I would like to export images from Lightroom into a folder structure LR creates based on the images keyword tree. I have noticed that this might be possible if LR uses collections as a basis for the folder hiearchy it creates but not based on Keword Hierachy.
When I move a selection of image files from one folder to another within lightroom there is always an error with at least one image and it doesn't make the move and is left. I can then reselect this image and then move it again.
Whenever I drag in a new image from my desktop or some other directory, and place it in Photoshop it always acts as a new layer on the thing that i was working on before, and as a smart object.I know I can drag it into the bar up top, but honestly that's such a small area, so it's rather annoying. I find it more convenient to be able to drag the image just about anywhere, and have it open as if i went File>Open
I might even go back to CS4 just to be able to avoid both problems by letting documents float, and not open each image as a separate window in the taskbar.
I had two 2013 folders, each with about 100 daily folders. The dates were differnt in each annual folder. I dragged one into the other. The folder where the daily folder was dragged from is now empty but those folders do not appear in the recieving folder. All the photos are still in the catalog, but do not show in the folders (left side panel).
I renamed a lot of my photo folders in Explore. Now in LR4, all these folders appears with an ?. I can't work on pictures from these folders - I get the message: File named xxx is offline or missing. It does not sync the parent folder. Nor does it sync the folder it self. If I right clik on a LR4 folder with a ?, and try to locate the folder, I only get the option to merge the identical folders. Is there any way to sort this. I can't restore the old folder names.
I am using LR 3.5 on the MAX OSX Lion. This problem has been going on for some time, so I am pretty sure it predates 3.5 and lion. If I minimize LR to the dock to do something else, then go back to the dock to expand, sometimes it doesnt expand... The only way to get it back is to click on the icon so that menu bar at the top of the screen is Lightroom's, then quit Lightroom from the menu and relaunch...
I'm working on some websites and my workflow is being slowed down because after installing the new Photoshop CC I tried dragging images from websites into photoshop to open them and create a new image over it WITH the same size as the previous image I dragged in.
I had no problem dragging and dropping images into photoshop CS6 before this, but now images are not opening when I do so. (I have to manually go find the image in the images folder thru dreamweaver first, then hunt them down and open them manually thru photoshop.)
why many images (mostly .jpg, .gif, .png) that I drag into xara from other programs such as email software, fire fox, etc. that I have a message that says "Out of memory" (even if i just choose import image location or import image from file, there is no such message) or, the screen just blinks as if it were adding the image to the screen, and nothing is changed or added?Am I doing something wrong here, or should I just give up on dragging?
I am using LR3. I appear to be digging a massive hole for myself trying to sort out the catalog. When I first got LR, I had initially added just a small number of files just to see how LR worked. At this time I was still completing sorting out my full photo collection in 'my pictures' which were also copied to two external hard drives. Once that work was completed, I imported a complete folder (some 4000 images) into LR. The folder/subfolders appeared in the folders panel but the sub folders I had initially imported were displayed with a ? and a message 'file is missing or offline' Going down the road of 'find missing folder' eventually led to my problems.
About 6 sub folders are involved so I eventually took the decision that it could be easier just to remove them so I could then re-import them from 'my pictures'. That hasn't worked out as planned. When I go into 'file' to import photos from 'my pictures' the missing sub folders are there but the images are 'greyed' as well as the import button. When I put the cursor onto one of the greyed-out images the message 'appears to be a duplicate of another photo already in catalog' appears.
how I can restore the 'missing' sub folders into the folders panel.
When I place my mouse over the the left edge of the right side panel I get <---> which is good then I try to drag to make the panel wider and it does not work. I can shrink the panel but not expand it.
In any module this is how it works. I also tried using the alt key (PC) to drag it wider but no go. You should be able to use just the <--> to expand.
I know in other versions of LR I could make the panel very wide but no longer, it only goes wide to a certain point that won't go any further cutting off the last few remaing characters on the far right side of the panel.
I'm refining some SVG files, imported into GIMP as paths. I added numerous guides on the images and drag anchors to the guides. All the paths consist of straight lines only. The problem is that on some anchors GIMP performs the "drag curve" operation instead of the "drag anchor". As a result, my straight lines become broken (curved).
The only solution I've found so far is to apply maximum zoom level, say 400%, and repeat the dragging in this resolution. This makes GIMP work properly, at least, I'm able to "drag anchor" as expected. But switching back and forth to the 400% zoom level is a bit annoying and inconvenient.
Is there a better way to "say" GIMP that "dragging anchor" is the "dragging anchor", not "dragging curve"?
I use Aperture but am taking a look at Lightroom. In Aperture, if I have a stack of photos in a project and drag it to an album (similar to a Lightroom collection), the entire stack goes into the album. But in Lightroom, if I drag a stack to a collection, only the top photo goes into the collection. If I expand the stack, select all the photos, and drag them to the collection, then of course they are all in the collection but they become unstacked.
Is there a way to drag a stack to a collection in Lightroom, have the entire stack go into the collection, and have the photos remain stacked? I have tried modifier keys such as Option and Command while dragging the stack but that seems to ahve no effect.
I'm trying to print using a Custom Package template -- however, I'm unable to drag photos from the Filmstrip to the Grid. What could I be doing wrong? Using LR 4.2 on a Mac.
why all of a sudden all my images and folders are not in alphabetical order. everytime you re-name or add a file to photoshop it detects and goes in order. now ive got to search to see where that file is.
Whenever I try to open a file through my pictures folder, the images (no thumbnails, etc) show up. I have to go through my pictures manually, then put the image into a folder on my desktop in order to open them through gimp.
I tired importing photos from one folder and about 300-400 of them weren't imported (out of about 1,000). I deleted them and tried again. Same thing. On the third try it imported all of them.My thought was maybe it's going to take more time importing images from my folders than learning to use the program. I can't learn the program if it keeps dropping images. I tried another directory of about 3,000 images but it only accepted about 300 of them. No matter how many times I tried, it would only import 300 out of the whole batch. These are good jpg files that all my other programs have no trouble with.
I want to relocate my Lightroom 4 - Catalogue file and Catalogue previous files from my computer's hard disk to an external hard disk. Is this possible by simply dragging and dropping the relevant files to the new location?
I've recently finished a catalog with 700+ images and I'd like to create an index for future use.
I would like to have an action which allows me to save a general purpose size image for e-mailing to customers as well as a thumbnail size image for photo invoices. This I could do normally by making two seperate actions for the two, but there is an issue with the categories of image types.
Within the catalog the images are of products, and thus are related to a brand. I would like to index the images into a brand based folder, and then into seperate folders for thumbnails and general use.
So essentially, the workflow would be something along the lines of
Create New Folder for Brand/ Category Open Image Resize for General Use Save Image As... in Brand > General Use Resize for Thumbnail Save Image As... in Brand > Thumbnails Close
Repeat for all images in category.
Create New Folder for new Brand Category Open Image .... Etc etc.
Also, is there a way to select a resizing of an image by it's longest/ shortest edge within an action/ droplet? I know Image Processor has this capability but it seems strange there is no ability within an action.
