Lightroom :: Ignore Camera-generated Folder Names?
Apr 11, 2013I can't see any difference in the import dialog when this preference checked or not checked ... where should I look for the effect of this preference?

View 13 RepliesThere is "Ignore camera generated folder names when naming folders" on preferences tab, but I couldn't find a usage for this option. With a camera card including different folders, I can not see the folder names in my card on the import panel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a hard drive published service configured in Publishing Manager that creates JPGs of any images that are placed into that published service. For the most part all the settings I specify on that service are adhered to when I "publish now". However one setting appears to be ignored and that is File Naming | Rename To:.
In the configuration of that option in Publishing Manager I have the rename to option set to "Filename - Sequence". When this option is set the example text it states at the bottom of file naming displays what I expect it be on output. However, when I "publish now" the file exports but with the original file name of the photo. Let me explain further. Typically when I've fully processed the photo I use the Lightroom file rename option to rename the file from the orginal import name to something more descriptive.
This seems to work fine with both the information in LR and the actual file name being correctly displayed. Even when I select the file for publishing the example file name show matches the new name after rename. However, the actual file generated always as the original imported file name. This happens for all files.
I'm using LR 5.2 on Windows 8.1.
Im using the most recent version of Lightroom 5.3 (updated through CC - even though this has shown up on previous version) on Windows 7 and all the folders in my library are showing up with the directory path in front of my folder names. How can I get rid of this? I do not see any options in preferences to turn this off. I have also turned off preferences in Windows > Folder Options Control Panel "Display full Path in Title bar" option.
I have Lightroom on several computers and have set up preferences the same on each workstation, and this only shows up on one workstation.
I’ve moved the folders for LR 3.6 to an external drive. Now the folder names are grayed out and, rather than a file count on the right hand side, there is an ellipsis (“…”). I’ve tried “synchronize folders” to no effect. Running on OS X 10.7.2 with a Mac Pro.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am new to LightRoom and am about to import more than 600 folders. These folders on the disc have names that relate to the content, and I was wondering if it is possible to add the folder names as keywords during import?
So if a photo is in /Weddings/New York/Chris and Charlie Hansen it would be tagged with 'Weddings, New York, Chris and Charlie Hansen' as keywords during import.
Naturally I would like this to happen dynamically so when import hundreds of folders in one go, the keywords are assigned as relevant. should I do it manually after import (which is of course possible, but quite a bit of work).
I've recently switched to Lightroom and was wondering whether it is possible to change the date format for the folders used for inport. Ideally I would like to use a structure such as this:
2012
|_ 01 - Jan
|_ 02 - Feb
As far as I can see that's not possible with the buit-in import presets organized by date. Is there any way to cusomize these formats to add 2012/01 - Jan etc?
I'm trying Frame Generator one last time to design the custom frames we build for our equipment. I've always had problems with getting FG to generate the right part numbers and file names. I have the part numbers figured out, but does Frame Generator still not have a good way to automatically create unique file names for frame members? If no one can get it to automatically generate unique file names, how do you manage all of the duplicate file names generated over time?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using Photoshop for basic editing for several years, now. For at least the last three years (whether I have used Photoshop CS5 or now, CS6), if I automate a batch of photos, going through the process of selecting the source folder, then the destination folder for the edited pictures, my choice of destination folder is ignored — the edited pictures end up in the source folder.

When using PS elements 10 I could never stop the program from importing the contents of this folder so that when I deleted them they kept showiing as 'missing files' in the catalog Have upgraded to 12 in the hope that I cam somehow tell the program to ignore this folder.
I import photos direct from camera (5DII) into Lightroom 4.3 the folder automatically created in Lightroom is one day out from the date photo created. Camera, computer and metadata info of file all have correct date. Windows 8 OS.

For my particular workflow, I find that loading thumbnails as step 1 of the import process to not be of much value for me.
I would prefer to load all images from the camera CF card directly into my "Import" folder in Lightroom without having to first view and select images for import.
Step 2 for me would then distribute the images into other named folders in LR prior to the development, skipping the thumbnail phase of the process.
So, the Q: Is there any setting that allows importation into a selected folder in LR without first going through the thumbnail process?
I'm trying to get the filenames of some drawings in a folder. I've got the following code, but it's not working. I get a file count from the line "filecount = objFiles.Count", so it's recognizing "objFiles" as the collection of files in the folder, but everything after that simply does nothing. Oddly, I can change the "If" statement from "<>" to "=", and it still reads the "Then" statement in both cases. However, the FileName is blank.
Dim objFile As FileDialogs
Set objFile = New FileDialogs
objFile.Title = strFolderName
objFile.StartInDir = "C:Documents and Settings"
strFolderName = objFile.ShowOpen

I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
...
IMG_0300 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
After taking a large batch of pictures, I want to place them in a folder and rapidly view the full images one at a time to select which to keep and which to discard. IN PE-8 how can I display two panes - one pane containing the image file names contained in a folder and the other pane which displays the image of the file name selected? Using the arrow keys, I want to move through image file names one at a time while displaying the image associated with the file name in the other pane.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTwice I have attempted to create a catalogue for use and both times I have ended up with a folder list of folders I have never seen before although they do contain pictures if I open them but I don't recognise these folder names.
I am using a iMac with Lion 10.8.2 and all my pictures are in a folder called pictures with sub folders underneath.
The export works not correct in LR5.3 When the field "Dont enlarge" are activated Lightroom ingnores the settings of image sizing and export the pictures in original size.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn some cases I like the way Nikon processes the image on my D7000 and the resulting jpg image. If I could just use a preset to get the same result from a RAW file it would save a bit of time.
I assume Nikon is using some formula to come up with that 'look' and so any preset to create the same image from a RAW file created by either the D7000 or a D3 or D700? Or maybe they do it dynamically dependent on some image content logic? There are presets for film types, so maybe there are some presets for internal camera processing modes?
The jpeg files generated with LR export menu are not displayable on my TV (store on a DNLA server), instead of Jpeg generated with CaptureNX2 (from the same Raw file).
View 16 Replies View RelatedJust accessing the "camera roll" folder crashes VS X5. I have to copy every video I want to edit from that folder to somewhere else in order to edit them. FLAT OUT LOCKS UP AND CRASHES if I access the Camera Roll folder in VS X5 in Windows 8.1.
Crossfade is extremely buggy, it leaves pops and sometimes even cuts out the sound completely if one is using a crossfade on a video that has the sound already on it. I usually end up having to record the output of the audio from VS X5 through "stereo mix" with Audacity, save it as a wav, and then mix it into the video again later while muting the original video.
Crossfades are extremely glitchy in general when using AVCHD, the only high quality format that doesn't degrade the sound to oblivion.
Saving as an HD MP4 results in such bad sound degradation that it's almost not usable if it contains music, everything above 12k is pretty much completely hosed.
Thumbnails will randomly unlink themselves, and when you try to re-link them, even though they're there, it doesn't know how to get the name, so you either have to type it in again or select it from the list.
Are these things fixed in X6?
When importing something off of a DVD or CD how do I direct Lightroom to copy the imported images or folder to a specific folder on my hard drive? It seems to default to MyCatalog but leaves the location on the CD rather than copying it to the drive. If I remove the CD the images is reported as missing.
When I go to the top of the screen for importing I can change the source but the location info on the right is not active or changeable.I am new to lightroom and coming from Photoshop Elements background.
I have another question about installing LR5. How do I manage to install the program to a special folder and not the custom folder on drive c:?
I just run the installation through application manager. I set the installation folder within my presets to d:adobe...
But anyway it was installed on hard drive c:
A direct download of the installer from adobe is not possible unfortunately.
I was in the process of moving a folder inside or LR. I might have clicked and moved it twice since it was very slow. LR wasn't able to complete the move and gave me an error message. After I clicked "OK" on the error message, I wasn't able to find my folder/images from the old or new location. I did a spotlight search on my mac, but I wasn't able to find them anywhere. Where has my folder/images gone? I tried to locate them without any success.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got about 10,000 photos that I've moved in lightroom by creating a folder called 'pictures' on the external drive using the left folders panel. I then selected all the images in the root drive on my computer and dragged them onto the 'pictures' folder on the external drive, and I expected the folder structure to come with it. Only after I realised that they had all moved into one folder. Is there a way of moving the images back into a structure without manually doing it? Here's a screenshot.....
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just copied around 30GB of photos from my Mac laptop to a secondary internal drive that I placed in my Mac desktop. I then copied the Catalog from my laptop and put it in my primary drive on my Mac desktop. I double-clicked on the Catalog and it seemed to open everything up. I clicked on some keywords and it is finding the images. I never used LR for anything other than adding multiple keywords to all of my images.
1. However, the folder section on the left has question marks next to each and every folder that displays in that section. Why does it have the question marks and what do I need to do to remove them?
2. Do I need to do anything else to ensure the transfer is complete?
I set lightroom 3 to monitor the folder that my Eye Fi card feeds to but I couldn't see how to do this without also setting the "move to" setting...is there a way to do this to just have Light room recognize when new pics come in and not move them?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to LR5.3 and have now noticed an issue when importing photos. When importing in to one folder (as a sub folder), the photos are imported correctly, - on disk they appear in the correct place, howevr in the folder panel, the sub-folder is shown outside of the main folder.
Imort settings are:
Note , on disk the folder '20131226 - Boxing Day' appears correctly (These are all under a root folder 'Photos - LR Masters')
However, in the LR Folder Panel, the folder '20131226 - Boxong Day' appears outside of the 'Photos - LR Masters'
If I attempt to move the folder by dragging, I get an error that the folder already exists.
There is a folder on my hard drive that does not appear in the list of folders in the import dialog. I have tried expanding all the other folders around it (my photos are filed by date of capture) to see if it was somehow imported as a subfolder. It is simply not there. I can find and open it and access all the pictures in Photoshop Elements but not in Lightroom 4.
