Jul 23, 2012I am trying to produce an iFeature that can be used as a punch/slot within a sheet metal component.
I have had minor success creating basic dimples before (simple revolved features), but this time I require a more detailed feature. I haven't been able to produce this part (see attached) as an i Feature. I believe it is because I have used a loft.
What alternatives are there? (I feel if I could get a good grasp on the limits of iFeatures that I could really make my modelling more efficient and versatile).
3ds Max :: Environment Map Slot - Not To Show In Actual Render?
Oct 17, 2012I have a hdri image in the environment map slot that I want to use for illumination and reflection purposes but I don't want it to show in the actual render, is there a way to do this? I've tried adding the hdri to a skylight but it doesn't give the reflections. I'm using mental ray by the way I know in vray you can use a map for overall reflections and one for overall GI is there a similar way for Mental Ray?hide in actual render?

Jan 9, 2013I have one problem and I would like to get your opinion how I could solve this.
I can't share models I have problem with, but I made another with the same problem.
I have two parts - one with slot, another with "pin". How to constrain the "pin" to always move in slot?
I had some ideas but non of them worked for me:
1. Use the Transitional constrain came first in mind, but it gives unsuspected results in this situation. Pin part is jumping around and ends up contrained in another place ir should be.
2. Contact solver kind of do the job, but it works quite bad. I gives no control or accuracy (i can not control how much pin is moved out)
3. I even thought of point on 3d sketch constrain, but it can not be done
How you would suggest to constrain the movement? I hope I stated problem clear enough.

May 6, 2013Design 2012 and 2013 has been giving me problems in the material editor.
System Specs:
Win 7 Pro 64
AMD FX-8320 Black Edition
16GB Ram
GTX 660 GPU
Sabertooth 990FX
Max Design 2013 R6
Nitrous
Basically, when i add a sub-object to a slot in the material editor (Using Mental Ray)nothing happens right away, so I have to do it again to get it to show up in the material editor. When i do get it to show up the slot looks all wrong and distorted, everything is unresponsive. I can save the scene and restart Max and everything will be ok, but as soon as i try to add another Multi material to another object it happens again. This was happening also prior to updating to R6 which i did last night. I've read a post about the same thing for 2012 but there was no solution.
I just tried it with Direct3D rather than Nitrous and did not run into this issue (using default Scanline).Just switching to Mental Ray and changing the standard material to MR A&D made the program unresponsive again. I'm starting to think it's MR that is giving me issues. Upon closing Max i get an error message saying that an error occurred and the program will close.Just switched to OpenGL and tried it with MR, still getting the same results.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Line On An Open Ended Slot
Oct 7, 2013how to put a center line on an open ended slot. Say in the front view you can see the radius of the slot with horizontal tangents running to the end of the object; this isn't the problem. When creating the top view, you only see one hidden line indicating the arch, but the other side is just open to the end. You have no means of finding bisectors.
I've added a jpg file, looking for the center line in the top view.

I'm trying to put a Env/Background Switcher into the Environment map slot. I FIRST created the Env/Background Switcher in the slate editor (this is simply the order I worked in and found I couldn't go further).
However, from the Slate Editor, I can't copy, drag, or assign this material, whether to the Environment dialog box, an object in the scene (objects won't accept the Env/Bkg Switcher), nor to a slot in the Compact Material Editor. Perhaps I'm missing a button click or a command someplace?
The only way I can do this is to rebuild the material in the Compact Material Editor (start with a clean Env/Bkg Switcher), or click in the Environment Dialog box's Environment Map slot and start by choosing an Env/Bkg Switcher.

I go into page setup and the properties of my printer and set the page layout to borderless and click OK.
However, I am unable to set the margins to zero. When I go back into my page setup and check the page layout, it has reverted to normal so it has ignored my setting.

I do not have the facility at home and need to have them sized correctly for the print shop so they do not have to waste time resizing them. I am at a loss how to do this. I cant find any settings for this size print. A3 is roughly 42 x 29.7 cm.

I am trying to print on 5x7 paper. I set the page setup to 5x7. I have the margins set to .2" on each side. The layout image inside Lr looks exactly how I want it to.Then I print. I end up with a .125" margin on the left and top, and a .625" margin on the right and bottom.

Apr 13, 2012It seems that, no matter how many times i save and update the profile, all the print setting (image size, sharpening, bit depth, color management, ...) are store within the preset, all but the Epson Driver settings, which have to be selected every single time.
I really can't remember if this bug was present in 4.0 or not (I'm currently running 4.1 RC), but I'm quite sure it was working OK under 3.x. Here's the thing.
I configure the printing settings and create. a profile: Profile1.I change all the settings and create a second profile: Profile2. The "Print Settings" settings are different, same printer, one for Color (Profile1), one for Advanced B&W (Profile2).I click on Profile1 (which was created with color Print Settings). Clicking on "Print Settings" or "Print", the printer settings selected under the epson driver is the ABW one (the one that belongs to Profile2).I reselect the correct setting from "Print Settings..." (Color).Click "Save" again.Righ-t click on Profile1 -> Update with current Settings. Setting seems to be saved.I then click on Profile2 and bam! The "Print Settings..." seems to be rverted to color instead of ABW.Update the correct settings, back to point #3
Can you reproduce this? This behavior is vanishig the power of the "Print One" button, unless you constantly print with tha same Driver settings.

Feb 11, 2013I set up a print package in lightroom v4.1 and adjusted the image in the cell to fit properly, however when I try to print to file the resulting file moves the crop to cut off the top of my subject's head. It seems that I can get around this by intentionally moving the image so that it appears to cut off her head, then when it prints it looks correct (the adjustments im doing are moving backwards?). This works for now but I have no specific control over my crop, I just have to guess and check which does not work for large quantities of images

Jun 29, 2013I am trying to print a 16" x 20" photo through Lightroom's print module. I am using an Epson 3880 printer and 17" x 22" paper. I have done this in Lightroom 4 with no problems. Now I am getting a print that is 16-3/8" x 20-1/2". I have the cell size set at 16" x 20" and borderless printing is turned off. I also checked zoomed to fill. This has also happened on a couple of 12" x 18" photos.

Mar 14, 2014Was printing 4x6" from LR 5.3 fine. To an Epson 3880. Then went to Page Settings (MAC) changed paper size to 8.5x11". The preview responded with a larger page. I scaled the image up to 8x10 via lightroom cell size. But when I printed to the Letter size paper, LR printed only a close to 4x6" top left corner. This was not a full image like the 4x6. It was just a corner.
Exported to PS and printed fine.Can not figure why the print will not print the full image?

Most of the time (and I can't see what makes the difference) it prints the JPG to a 96 ppi resolution regardless of what setting I use for resolution.

Jun 11, 2013I'm trying to print a test print before I print a 13 x 38 panorama. I don't know yet if anything will print as I want, but here's what I've spent time thrashing on with this print:
Mac os 10.8.4, latest Epson drivers, Epson 3880. I've got this set up as a custom paper size, and it's in the rear paper slot, since it's a heavy fine art paper. Color managment is using a custom profile I made. When I click "Printer," then do the setup, then click "print," I get progress in the upper left that says "Rendering..." Then the printer driver briefly pops up in the dock, then disappears. The paper is loaded, and the printer sits there saying "ready." It's connected and online, and I can see the ink levels in it.
If I try to print a PDF from the same print dialog, I get a pdf that looks as it should. If I print to a jpg instead of to Printer in the Print Job settings, I get a jpg that seems as it should.
I was just printing to LR 4 using these same settings the other day.Yes, I have reselected the printer in the drop down menu.
