Lightroom :: How To Get Subfolders Back In Chronological Order
May 31, 2012
I've run Lightroom from the beginning and love it. For some reason, I developed multiple catalogs. I remedied that today with a master catalog which seems to have worked fine with one exception: On my hard disk my photos are arranged in Date Folders as subject subfolders. (e.g., 2010>familytrip20091225>email [or Phanfare, or black/white, etc.]) Now, however, the folders are gone and everything arranged alphabetically by first subfolder order (in the foregoing example, familytrip20091225 would fall under "f" rather than as a subfolder under 2010. The folder 2010 does not appear.
I have more than 10,000 pictures in this catalog and hunting for them this way is counter productive.chronological.I run LR4.1 in Windows 7 on a new HP desktop with plenty of RAM and memory.

When I import new photos in the catalog, it reverses the chronological order in which they were taken - i.e., for photos taken on the same day, it would show the latest first.I don't think I changed any settings regarding the importing of photos in the catalog.

When I "Get Photos" from a camera and choose to rename them (with "Name" + 001 option), they are acquired and renamed in no particular order and occasionally have the incorrect date. For example, I took 5 photos on 2/21, 4 photos on 2/22, and 3 photos on 2/23 (today). When I imported them into Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 and sort them by date, the filename numbers are in an almost random order, e.g. 2009Feb018, then 2009Feb002, then 2009Feb012 are the names of 3 photos taken within minutes of each other. In addition two of the 4 photos taken 2/22 show a date of 2/21.When I download photos from my camera to Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2, how do I get them to download in chronological order?
Operating System:
Windows XPBrowser: Mozilla

Haven't used Elements in awhile, and actually, the chronological order was never a big deal. For this vacation, I really want them in the order taken by date because I used two different cameras.

Using PSE9, Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit.
I just changed the dates on 2 of my photos and noticed that the 2 pictures do not re-order themselves in the correct date sequence.
The 2 photos are dated Oct 14, 1983. However they appear between my Oct 16 and Oct 15 photos. I have other photos dated Oct 14 that do correctly appear before the Oct 15 photos.
Why would these 2 photos be separated from the other Oct 14 photos?

during a shoot of products I've already organized all pictures in different subfolders on my HD (via EOS utility). Now I want to import these folders into LR4 but eventhough I've ticked the "include subfolder" box I only get one import folder.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I really seem to recall that in previous versions you could promote a subfolder by right-clicking it. It would appear in the contextual menu. The only option I see now is to add the parent folder to the top folder in the library. Has the promote subfolder option been removed?

In LR5 is there any way to merge multiple subfolders? For example, in my 2012 folder, I have lots of subfolders that were created when I imported my photos and organized them by date.
But now that 2012 is over I don't need that granularity anymore and I want to consolited multiple folders into one folder.
I tried selecting a group of folders and right clicking but I haven't found any option for merging folder.

I have my own backup program, and I need to know which folders to select in order to backup the catalog. I've selected:
%AppData%AdobeElements OrganizerCatalogsShane
Do I need to select the BreezeData and CAXMPFiles subfolders? What are they for?
BreezeData contains 15,000 files, and CAXMPFiles contains 5,000 files. I don't want to back them up if they are not needed.

I accidentally deleted my LR4 catalog, which I cannot recover. I have been unable to import folders from the source without all the files appearing as a single batch, i.e: no sub-folders in the import window. Must I import the content of each sub-folder into the corresponding destination folders separately: must I uninstall LR4 and reinstall it so that it can create a new default catalog? What is the process I need to follow in order to import the sub-folders?

i am trying to import a folder of vacation pictures. it has 5000 pictures and there are many subfolders. It imports them where i want but it gives me question marks on all the subfolders. And the subfolders are empty even though it tells me how many pictures are in the folder. I right clicked the question marked folders and point to where they are and it just says they are already there and do i want to merge the folders. In importing i told it to include the subfolders. I have tried this twice and each time the same results. Very frustrating to have to scroll through thousands of pictures.

I would like to import a set photos into Lightroom as say "New York 2012" as the folder name. In that folder I would like to then have the pictures in sub folders by the relevant dates (i.e. December 1, December 2, etc...). However, it seems like everytime I try to do an import this way, I would Get my "New York 2012" folder but then a sub folder of 2012 first, and only then the subfolders with the December 1, Decemeber 2 etc pictures. Is there anyway to eliminate that "2012" subfolder that is created. I mean I already know is 2012 because the title of the main folder is New York 2012...I just want the subfolders to be the dates for the pics themselevs right away rather than first having 2012 folder to click on. Is there anyway to do this with the import feature?

My catalog in Lightroom 4 is spread over several hard drives and broken into years, with subfolders holding each seperate shoot. I recently replaced the harddrive that only held 2009 with a 3TB drive that should be able to accomodate 2010,2011 and 2012. I would like to move those files onto that drive within Lightroom so that it tracks where they are.

I use a file structure in lightroom with subfolders within folders to organize photos; some of these top level folders contain many thousands of pictures; I have found that any top level folder with greater than 3000 photos will no open, and therefore all photos within that top level folder are not searchable. When I try opening such a large folder, the phrase "no photos in selected folder" is displayed. This has never been happened in LR3, but is happening in LR4. Folders less than abour 2500 photos can be opened and searched easily.

Have just installed Windows LR4 trial, told it to Import files from my photo collection in a folder + subfolders on a network attached storage (NAS) unit. Windows Explorer tells me that there are 10,308 files in 408 folders in the main folder, totalling 38.8gb but on scanning the folder prior to import LR4 tells me that there are only 9,612 photos.
My photo collection folder contains only photos and no other file types.
Why is there this discrepancy ? I've searched around to see whether there is some hidden filter that is excluding certain photo files but cannot find anything of that nature.

I have this heavy issue, i can't send to back a line, an object or a hatch under other lines. In 2012 i used this feature a lot but in 2013 it's not working very much, maybe 1 time out of 10 and i absolutely can't say why.
HPDRAWORDER = 1 seems to work with a new hatch.. but i can't redraw everything.
Let's say i put an entire floor plan into block then draw over it. (I don't want to start a Xref discussion please) i can't send the entire bloc to the back.I used to do that with 2012, 2008, 2007.. but it's 2013 it's not working, is there a way to correct that?

Here I have several concentric squares in an uninterrupted stack.I moved the topmost (small orange) one vertically.I then went to the Alignment panel, selected all the squares and clicked on the one I moved. Then I clicked on Vertical Distribute Center.
The right hand picture shows what happened. One of the squares (that big orange one) near the bottom of the stack shot up so that its centre was above the centre of the topmost one in the stack. The centres are evenly distributed but why is the stacking order not controlling the order in which the squares are arranged?
Fortunately the positioning of that big orange square was easy to correct, but something tells me this is not the way things are supposed to happen.Seemingly this does not always happen. I have tried the method on several stacks. Some were o.k., others showed similar behaviour to the above.

I have a folder structure of subfolders with jpeg's in them.
I'd like to 'Save for web' them , keep the same folder structure and also the same names for the images.
I made an action that does Save for web. According to Adobe the settings should be
File > Automate > Batch>
Inculde all subfolders checked
Save and Close
Override Action checked
and I tried many other settings,
but the images tend to be saved in the destination folder of the image that I created the action with, instead of their original folder.

The problem is, that I'd like to do this with preserving subfolders order, as it's the most important part of my project.

Sometimes the filmstrip will not allow me to click and drag and change the order of pictures in the filmstrip. The pics are locked in place. It allows me to drag an image to a new position in the filmstrip but when I "unclick" the pic just moves back to its original position. Other times a black bar appears between the pics where I want to move the pic and I can rearrange the order of pics. I cant figure out why I can do this sometimes and sometimes the filmstrip wont allow me to change order.
Also, I can move pics in one file while not being able to move them in another. So it not some universal setting but seems to be file (catalog) specific.
