Lightroom :: How To Disable Automatic Distortion Correction From RAW Files
Jan 13, 2014
I have an Olympus OMD EM5 and I notice that when RAW files are imported into Lightroom, an automatic correction is applied by default. It appears to read this directly from the metadata of the RAW file. How to disable this?
The issue is that this correction means that the RAW files in Lightroom differ from both the camera viewfinder and JPG output in terms of composition - sometimes barely so, and sometimes significantly depending on angle, zoom etc. This is undesirable behavior in a lot of instances where you want the RAW to match your chosen composition.

I just got a Nikon D800E and on my first day of shooting I noticed a hot pixel spot in my images in Bridge. The when I opened the files in ACR, the hot pixel spot was gone. Apparently this is a "feature" of ACR: it automatically replaces hot pixels with RGB values from neighboring pixels. (So those of you who think you have no hot pixels, think again - you might be shielded from the truth! I find this fact very disconcerting, but that's a separate issue...).
The problem is that I can't tell how many hot pixels there are. Based on the image in Bridge, it would have to be spot of 20 - 30 pixels (maybe even more). That's unacceptable to me, especially on a $3300 camera. Sure, maybe a few hot pixels spread around the image, but 20-30 bunched in that one spot, that's unacceptable.
However, I can't figure out how to disable the automatic hot pixel correction in ACR, so I don't know if the issue really is 20 - 30 hot pixels or if Bridge is just doing some type of sub-sampling that makes the problem look a lot worse than it is. Furthermore, this concerns me greatly because I've been using a D200 for many years and have never seen a single hot pixel issue. So that says to me that the sensor on my D800E has a bigger hot pixel issue than it should (I realize all sensors have some hot/dead pixels).
How to go about figuring this out? The simplest solution is to disable the automatic hot pixel correction in ACR, but I can't figure out how to do that. I'm guessing it's not possible.

My lens profiles in the distortion correction list are small. I looked at the official list and mine is not right. I only have one Tamron lens profile. Nikon and Canon only have about 6 lenses each. What gives?

I'm trying to correct the distortion caused by a wide-angle lens in Premiere CS6. From what I can tell, there is no filter or transform / distort feature within Premiere itself. I followed the steps in this tutorial to open the MPEG4 in Photoshop, apply the lens correction filter, and then export the video again to be re-imported to Premiere. URL....
However this tutorial is for CS5. I am seeing no adjustment or filter layer in my layers panel, as it appears in the tutorial. When I go to export the video, it seems the Adaptive Wide Angle filter or the Lens Correction filter has only applied to a single frame of the whole clip. Bummer.

I have an RX100 and am an avid Paint Shop Pro X5 fan. However, I have had no real success in shooting in RAW format. The reason is because of the awful barrel distortion on the RX100, so that it can achieve its level of compactness.
I want to be able to take RAW pictures, use the RAW lab for white balance, highlight recovery, etc, while dealing with the barrel distortion in an easy manner.
PSPx5 supports the .ARW format, and that I don't have to convert to DNG, I don't know what to do about the barrel distortion. It is possible I suppose to perform a barrel distortion correction individually on every single photo I take, but this seems overly labor intensive.
A script to automagically do this on all images is probably possible...HOWEVER, the distortion depends on the amount of zoom applied, from around 3.9% wide-angle to about 0.5% at the long end. So a batchfile process isn't really appropriate.
Sony has an Image Data Converter. But, when I tried to use it, it did not save any of the barrel distortion corrections back to RAW! Otherwise I could use it as a batch converter, then use PSPx5 like normal.

I often need to work on big drawings having utility networks, topographic surveys and properties. Whenever using FIND command in such a drawing AutoCAD regens the drawing. This happens even if FIND command is cancelled and takes 2 to 3 seconds everytime. Can I disable this automatic regen and do only when I need.

You basically have to click "Expand canvas" every single time you paste a screenshot larger than the canvas. Sure, open a canvas that size, etc etc, but I'm looking for a permanent solution which would allow you to use the "Expand" choice AUTOMATICALLY, by default, without a popup. On that note, here's another annoying thing. Whenever I open images, crop out something, open a new one, paste it there, save it, etc, I usually have tons of unsaved images which I no longer need. I just want to exit the whole thing altogether without any save popups, etc. Like you would do in MSPaint. Open a canvas, paste in something, save it or don't, exit, the program closes nice and fine. My problem is:
This. I don't want to save every single image separately, because I no longer need them. Neither do I want to manually click each and every single one and tell it not to save, nor do I want to click "Don't Save" every time I exit. This may seem like pointless bitching, but trust me, it really gets on your nerves when you're using the program literally hundreds of times per day.
So, is there any way to disable these popups and define an "automatic" feature, to simply close and enlarge under any circumstances?

I have gone around and around with Photoshop/Creative Cloud getting my activation working. After more than two weeks that problem is finally solved. BUT during this time I got a popup during the launch of Photoshop CS6 asking if I wanted to 'automatically send information to Adobe for product improvement' or something like that.
If I clicked "No" the top menu bar would appear, but every single option was greyed out. The program just sat there, useless. So, out of desperation (to continue my troubleshooting) I clicked "Yes". The program worked. How can I turn this off?

I am early in my learning curve on Lightroom. I understand that changes are not automatically applied to an image file but rather kept in a Lightroom database to preserve the original (non destructive). However, that is not a goal of mine. After making changes to a file or adding keywords, I want Lightroom to automatically update the actual files (in my case jpegs) so that I do not need to export them to be used elsewhere such as in a slideshows etc. I have found settings that imply the "metadata" is or can be updated, but I do not know if that is the "develop" changes I made or the keywords or if I need to do that every time before I close lightroom. Right now, I do an export of my entire folder of 20,000 images after each session where I make changes and then I use that export as a source for my automatic backup programs and supplies a continuous slideshow on another machine.
Maybe another way to say it is: after making changes and closing Lightroom, I want to be able to take an image from "My Pictures" folder (which contains all my images) and know it has the latest changes made and the latest keywords embedded. I do not want to have to export these files. first.

When opening certain JPG images in Photoshop, they look different (worse) than when opened in any other application. They get some kind of additional distortion / artifacts.
If you look closely at the right side of the following screenshot, you will notice that the edges between the color areas are kinda jagged (less smooth) in comparison to the left one. When zooming in, it appears that every second pixel line at the borders of the red areas is distorted in horizontal direction:
left side: image opened with JPEG View, Windows Photo Viewer, Google Chrome or Paint Shop Pro X5 right side: image opened with Photoshop CS6 (also tested on an old CS4 version - same result)
The image retains those distortions when saved from Photoshop. No matter if saved loss less (PNG) or not (JPG). However, when opening the image with an image viewer (i.e. JPEG View), taking a screenshot and pasting it into Photoshop, there are no such artifacts. Even when then saved as JPG and reopened, there is still no distortion.
Therefore the issue must be related to the format the original files are saved in. According to the metadata stored within the JPG the image was edited with "Adobe Lightroom".
You can find the image in question here:

(it happens to other related images from this photo stream too)

I took some family portraits using a Canon D60, RAW files.
I'm using Lightroom and Photoshop to work on them, with the goal of making a hard-copy print.
Also, I used florescent photography lighting, with "6400K" bulbs that came with the lights.
My problem is a little yellow tinting in some of the skin tones. My face, for example, looks just fine except for the shadow areas around the eyes, where it seems a little yellow-green, looking almost like a bruise. Meanwhile, my nephew's face looks a bit yellow.
I've used (in Lightroom) the neutral eyedropper on white clothing and grey background, and everything else seems fine. That is, the photo is not over-all tinted. I've tried the different Camera Calibration settings, and tried the temperature/tint sliders to see what difference it made.
How I might improve my photos? I've attached a detail, saved with an ICC profile of AdobeRGB.

I'd like to know if the new CS6 Preference which allows users to "Disable Compression of PSD and PSB files" applies to 8 bit files.
The reason I am asking is that the DisallowFlateCompressedPSD registry change for CS5, which disables compression of PSD and PSB files does not work for 8 bit files (it only works for 16 bit and 32 bit files)I work on large 8 bit files (4-8GB) and would like to know if CS6 would allow me to disable compression on those files.

Is there a way I can turn off this features? I've tried to find an option that controls this, but can't.

I need Photoshop to save my files with automatic consecutive numbering.I have lots of image files with several photos and/or negatives scanned in each image file. I need to individually select every photo or negative to be able to cut and paste in a new file and then saving every pasted photo/negative in a separate image file.
Now, I have automated the cut and paste process, and also recorded some effects with Actions, but when I come to saving the files I always get prompted to enter a file name no matter if I record the save as "Save" or "Save as".
Is it possible to make Photoshop saving each file automatically with an automatically assigned number? Example: Photo0003.tif, and the next file Photo0004.tif, and so forth. Just so I won't need to enter a file name manually each time?
Saving by Batch processing is not a solution since every file I open have to be divided into like 12 new separate files and saved with different names.I use both CS2, CS5 and could sit with another machine with CS6 if thats whats needed for the job.

AutoCAD LT 2012...I have set up automatic file saving to save files every 10 minutes but files are not saved. I have deleted most old files from the "temp" folder thinking it may be full but the save function is still not working. Sometimes drawings do get saved but only at random intervals and definitely not every 10 minutes.

I have created master assembly that has rules to 'save as' the assembly and parts to different locations and with different names. This master assy has links to excel file to get different names
In the same way I am looking the drawings (for both assy and parts) needs to be created and 'save as' to different locations. These newly generated drawings should have links to newly created parts/assembly.
I am able to 'save as' the master drawings to different locations but these newly created drawings still has links to master assembly/parts.

In Designer Pro 6 Under Options, Backups, there's a check box that says, "Backup open documents on program close and restore on program start." Sometimes I want some of my open documents to reopen on program start (I think this is great!) But my problem is even when I first close those documents (that I don't want to open on program restart) before closing XDP6, when I reopen XDP6 the ones that I closed reopen. What can be done to change this behavior if I want to keep the box checked?

When I try to use Lens Correction in LR 5 I get a restricted number of profiles, none of which match my standard Nikon 28-300mm zoom. However when I open the images in Camera Raw I have automatic access to this profile. I also have access to a custom Fuji profiles which I have downloaded and installed with Adobe Profile Downloader but which don't appear in the Lightroom module. Developing my images in Camera Raw before using Lightroom?
I had always assumed that Camera Raw formed the basis of Lightroom.
