Lightroom :: HDR Efex Pro2 - Crashes Regularly In 4.4
Sep 27, 2013I have been using HDR Efex Pro2 for a year as a preset in Lightroom 4 with no problem. Now it crashes all the time. Could this be because I upgraded Lightroom to 4.4?

Photoshop :: HDR Efex Pro2 Crashing CS6?
Sep 21, 2013I have been using Nik HDR Efex Pro2 with Photoshop CS6 successfully for over a year on my aging MAC Pro and OS 10.6.8.Now all of a sudden HDR Efex Pro 2 crashes Photoshop as soon as I launch it.
Nik suggests my GPU is out of date but how could it be fine one day and out of date the next. To make sure I ran an update on the MAC OS software. (I cannot upgrade beyond 10.6.8 because some of my software won't be compatible.) I also tried their suggested replacing the .cfg code in the Nik HDR preference folder. In addition I did an update on CS6 and uninstalled and reinstalled HDR Efex Pro2.
During the time it went from working to not working I might have allowed the recommended updates such as iTunes, Airport, etc. Flash also wanted to be updated and I have heard of some different types of conflicts with this from others.

Dec 11, 2008As others have already reported, I'm also experiencing repeated crashes
when using CS4. This can happen at any time:
- when loading an image
- when creating or modifying a selection
- when editing the image
- ...
No obvious pattern detected. After the crash, when I relaunch PS, I
often (not always) get a message telling me that GPU acceleration/
OpenGL drawing has been disabled. However, I also had crashes with
OpenGL drawing disabled.
I'm using a Windows XP Pro SP3, a GeForce 6600 GT with the latest driver
(version 178.24, October 15, 2008) and the motherboard is an ASUS
A8N-SLI Premium running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ with 3GB of
RAM.
I recently made some changes to the NVidia settings and had no crash
since then:
- Use my advanced 3D image settings
- Anisotropic filtering 16x
- Anti aliasing : 8xS
- Conformant texture clamp: Off
- Error reporting: Off
- Extension limit: Off (if you set this to On, PS crashes and disables
OpenGL drawing)
- Force MipMaps: None
- Maximum pre-rendered frames: 0
- Single display performance mode
- Texture filtering settings: Off with exception of 2
- Negative LOD Bias : Clamp
- Quality: High quality
- Threaded optimization: On
- Triple buffering: On
- Vertical Sync: Force On (also On in PS as well as "Force Bilinear
Interpolation" and "Advanced Drawing")

Feb 19, 2014Previously, my LR5 worked seamlessly with both the most current versions of Photomatix Pro and HDR Efex Pro 2. Then neither program worked. Photomatix would accept images from LR5 would process them sometimes but wouldn't send them back to LR5. Sometimes Photomatix would allert me that some of the exported images had the same data - not true. Sometimes 2+,1+, 0, 2- & 1- brackets were interpreted as having a 3+ image. With the Nik software I'd get messages like "Launching external application failed" or "The command 'HDR Efex Pro 2' is not currently available. I contacted Google and we determined that the Nik software worked when opened in Photoshop CS5. It appears that LR5 may be the culprit. I uninstalled and reinstalled LR5. Nothing changed. The Photomatix and Efex Pro 2 plugins reappeared without me doing anything so I wasn't sure I got a clean reinstall.

Lightroom :: Unexpected Error / Bad Argument With Silver Efex Plugin
Aug 4, 2012I just bought Silver Efex pro 2 after uninstalling a pirated version my sister downloaded. When I try to edit a photo in Silver Efex 2 through Lightroom 4 a box comes up and says unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to lower (string expected, got nil). I am not good with computers.
Also is there any way to restore factory defaults all throughout Lightroom. Maybe doing that and reinstalling Silver Efex would work? Even when I deleted the pirated version of Silver Efex the Silver Efex still showed up in the Edit In box. I need to get that one to go away so the new Silver Efex will appear in Edit in box I guess.

Photoshop :: 3D Is Causing CS6 To Crash Regularly
Apr 26, 2013I am doing simple extrusions in 3D. One or 2 extrusions in a document. Specifically, earrings. I have to save every few steps , because PS is going to crash at least once per hour.
My computer has 12GB RAM, and a 1GB GPU. My MAC is less than a year old. It should be able to handle the workload.
When I'm doing 3D I shut down all other programs on my computer.
I have turned up all the preferences inside PS pertaining to performance.
When I save a document the SAVE time is 3-7 seconds. Each time I hold my breath that it doesn't fail.

They are jpeg files and can be read by several other programs with no problem.
I cannot do a lot of work because this keeps happening.
GIMP :: Slider Value - How To Change Size Regularly
Jan 30, 2014The sliders are nearly useless for me as I typically use pens and brushsizes of 1,5, 10 and 20. I need to change the size regularly and thesliders would be ideal yet my 'working' range is in a tiny little bit atthe end of the slider value.
It would be a huge gain for me to some how set the max slider value to avalue of my choice (say 50) rather than the current value of 1000
Is it possible? If not can I make a feature request (and if so how)
Photoshop :: HDR Efex Pro Locks
Aug 6, 2012Currently running Photoshop CS6 and a trial version of HDR Efex pro 2 downloaded from the official Nik website. The issue is simply this:
1. I click Merge multiple images or Merge to HDR Efex pro 2 in the file menu.
2. The program becomes unresponsive.
I can't select images, no box pops up for it. It just hangs..I can force quit with task manager and I can alt+tab to other windows, but the HDR efex 2 box and photoshop program can't be clicked, moved, or used at all. It is highly frustrating and I've reinstalled numerous times. I've also loaded up an old copy of CS5 that I had and the same thing happens.
I've recently reinstalled windows and previously CS 5 + HDR Efex worked fine, but since the reformat it now does this.

Feb 27, 2013I get the spinning wheel when I try to instal this on my MAC. I have LR3 and 4, CS5 and NX2. I do not want to work in NX2 as I am not familiar with that software. I am not a tech person, had to let them go. Mar 26, 2013I just got Nik's HRD Efex Pro2 and I'm having trouble with it. System is iMac running OSX 10.8.3 with 12Gb RAM. When I come back to PS CS6 from HDR Efex using either a Fuji X-E1 or Nikon D800 RAW file, the effect is properly rendered but there is a big black (or sometimes white) box somewhere on the image. Once this happens, all subsequent images loaded have the same or similar defects and the only way to get rid of it is to shut down PS and restart.
When I save the file despite the apparent defect and then look at it in LR4, the saved image is fine so it appears to have something to do with how PS is rendering the image on screen. I called Nik and they said it was a memory problem (a leak) in PS CS 5 and 6. I suppose that is predictable. Nik suggested reducing the size of the available RAM (I'm now at 56% down from 69% which is in the "ideal" range) and changing my Drawing Mode from "advanced" to "basic". Didn't work.

Oct 9, 2012I'm having problems with Silver Efex Pro 2 after upgrading to PS CS6, worked fine in older versions of PS..Downloaded the latest installer from Nik Software..The installer only find my Lightroom 4.1 when installing, and I have to add CS6 manually (locating the plugin folder, also tried other folders).It works fine in LR4.1, but in PS, the software opens, I apply changes, and clik OK, NIK closes, but nothing happens to my image. Mar 20, 2013I have had a problem with the Nik Software Silver Efex Pro (SEP) plugin running extremely slowly, but only at certain times. It's been pretty good for the past few months, but it suddenly took a nose-dive a few days ago. It takes ages to load the presets and to process the image in Photoshop once I have made my selections in SEP. I just thought that as SEP is a direct plugin to CS6 Photoshop then perhaps it's something to do with the way Photoshop itself runs. I switched the running of Photoshop to 'Run as administrator' (just right click the program in the start menu and go to compatibility tab) and SEP now runs extremely fast. why running as Admin should make such a difference? Are there any problems in running in Admin mode?
I run Norton Internet Security, and thought that as I'm now OK in Admin mode it might be a virus-checker problem, and running in Admin mode was getting around the problem. I do have both versions of Photoshop (32 and 64 bit) included to 'allow' access in Norton.Here is my system config. My PC runs very well in all other respects.

Dec 28, 2012I have loaded NIK Silver Efex Pro onto CS6. The plug in shows up in PS CS6 as normal, however when I have an image up and go plug ins and click on Silver Effex Pro 2 i get a notice saying that this programme has crashed.

Apr 29, 2013Just recently I've had a problem with CS6 where it creates a partial (tiled) image when "Edit In" from LR4 and when saving back to CS6 from HDR Efex Pro. THe image may have one or several rectangles which may be black, white, or part of the image that's in the wrong place if that makes any sense. All software is running with current updates.

Sep 21, 2013I have Lightroom 5.2, which I installed a few days ago. Yesterday, it started failing to open with a crash report generated. I read that upgrading to OS X 10.8.5 fixed this crash. So I upgraded yesterday evening. However I still get a crash. I do have a HD that I recently installed (perhaps 1 week ago) that is 3 TB. Dec 7, 2012I recently moved Lightroom 4.2 to my new Windows 8 PC. All modules work fine except when trying to import from either my card reader or my PC, then the program grinds to a halt and often crashes. Program worked fine on my previous Windows Vista system. The only things I moved from Vista PC were photos, Lighroom catalog file and Lightroom preferences file. Adobe support suggest trying to run Lightroom from different user on my PC, which I tried but no difference. If it makes any difference, LR is loaded on my SSD C: drive and photos, catalog, etc. on my D: drive.

Mar 18, 2014I recently upgraded my laptop to one with Windows 8 (not because of Windows). The File Manager program does not work on my laptop, so I've had to install a third party file management app. Does Lightroom integrate with the Windows app because whenever I try to manage files in Lightroom (plug-in manager, publishing services, import destination) the program crashes. I can't install any plug-in's or add any new folders to my export settings.
