Photoshop :: Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 Not Recognized In CS6
Oct 9, 2012
I'm having problems with Silver Efex Pro 2 after upgrading to PS CS6, worked fine in older versions of PS..Downloaded the latest installer from Nik Software..The installer only find my Lightroom 4.1 when installing, and I have to add CS6 manually (locating the plugin folder, also tried other folders). It works fine in LR4.1, but in PS, the software opens, I apply changes, and clik OK, NIK closes, but nothing happens to my image. The history tab says "Silver Efex Pro 2", but no layers/changes to the original image..64bits WIN7 Enterprise, 12GB ram
I have had a problem with the Nik Software Silver Efex Pro (SEP) plugin running extremely slowly, but only at certain times. It's been pretty good for the past few months, but it suddenly took a nose-dive a few days ago. It takes ages to load the presets and to process the image in Photoshop once I have made my selections in SEP. I just thought that as SEP is a direct plugin to CS6 Photoshop then perhaps it's something to do with the way Photoshop itself runs. I switched the running of Photoshop to 'Run as administrator' (just right click the program in the start menu and go to compatibility tab) and SEP now runs extremely fast. why running as Admin should make such a difference? Are there any problems in running in Admin mode?
I run Norton Internet Security, and thought that as I'm now OK in Admin mode it might be a virus-checker problem, and running in Admin mode was getting around the problem. I do have both versions of Photoshop (32 and 64 bit) included to 'allow' access in Norton. Here is my system config. My PC runs very well in all other respects.
System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 6/27/2012, 17:44:57 Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030) System Manufacturer: Acer System Model: Aspire M5811 BIOS: Default System BIOS [code]..
I have loaded NIK Silver Efex Pro onto CS6. The plug in shows up in PS CS6 as normal, however when I have an image up and go plug ins and click on Silver Effex Pro 2 i get a notice saying that this programme has crashed.
I have been trying to install my copy of Silver Efex into CS5. I follow the installation instructions but when I open Photoshop, there is no sign of it anywhere (it should apparently be under the "Filters" tab, but it's not).
I just downloaded an upgrade version of Lightroom 4. Silver Efex Pro 2 is listed in the "Edit in" menu but does not open when I click on the link. I can open Silver Efex separatelly, but no image is included.
I am not able to start the Plugin with Adobe Lightroom 4; - installed Lightroom 4 - upgraded catalog - deleted Lightroom 3 -now I still can see the menue in Lightroom 4 (edit in ...) but no plugin starts; downloaded newst patch SilverEfexPro2-la-ver2.004all.dmg which then found LR4 as host applciation, but still does not work.
Strange as LR3 LR4 Beta was installed the plugin worked
I just bought Silver Efex pro 2 after uninstalling a pirated version my sister downloaded. When I try to edit a photo in Silver Efex 2 through Lightroom 4 a box comes up and says unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to lower (string expected, got nil). I am not good with computers.
Also is there any way to restore factory defaults all throughout Lightroom. Maybe doing that and reinstalling Silver Efex would work? Even when I deleted the pirated version of Silver Efex the Silver Efex still showed up in the Edit In box. I need to get that one to go away so the new Silver Efex will appear in Edit in box I guess.
Currently running Photoshop CS6 and a trial version of HDR Efex pro 2 downloaded from the official Nik website. The issue is simply this:
1. I click Merge multiple images or Merge to HDR Efex pro 2 in the file menu. 2. The program becomes unresponsive.
I can't select images, no box pops up for it. It just hangs..I can force quit with task manager and I can alt+tab to other windows, but the HDR efex 2 box and photoshop program can't be clicked, moved, or used at all. It is highly frustrating and I've reinstalled numerous times. I've also loaded up an old copy of CS5 that I had and the same thing happens.
I've recently reinstalled windows and previously CS 5 + HDR Efex worked fine, but since the reformat it now does this.
I get the spinning wheel when I try to instal this on my MAC. I have LR3 and 4, CS5 and NX2. I do not want to work in NX2 as I am not familiar with that software. I am not a tech person, had to let them go. I can get this action to use to complete a print and have it match what another photographer did with this action a few years ago.I also tried to install on my laptop and it seemed to install but I cannot find it...
I just got Nik's HRD Efex Pro2 and I'm having trouble with it. System is iMac running OSX 10.8.3 with 12Gb RAM. When I come back to PS CS6 from HDR Efex using either a Fuji X-E1 or Nikon D800 RAW file, the effect is properly rendered but there is a big black (or sometimes white) box somewhere on the image. Once this happens, all subsequent images loaded have the same or similar defects and the only way to get rid of it is to shut down PS and restart.
When I save the file despite the apparent defect and then look at it in LR4, the saved image is fine so it appears to have something to do with how PS is rendering the image on screen. I called Nik and they said it was a memory problem (a leak) in PS CS 5 and 6. I suppose that is predictable. Nik suggested reducing the size of the available RAM (I'm now at 56% down from 69% which is in the "ideal" range) and changing my Drawing Mode from "advanced" to "basic". Didn't work.
I have been using Nik HDR Efex Pro2 with Photoshop CS6 successfully for over a year on my aging MAC Pro and OS 10.6.8.Now all of a sudden HDR Efex Pro 2 crashes Photoshop as soon as I launch it.
Nik suggests my GPU is out of date but how could it be fine one day and out of date the next. To make sure I ran an update on the MAC OS software. (I cannot upgrade beyond 10.6.8 because some of my software won't be compatible.) I also tried their suggested replacing the .cfg code in the Nik HDR preference folder. In addition I did an update on CS6 and uninstalled and reinstalled HDR Efex Pro2.
During the time it went from working to not working I might have allowed the recommended updates such as iTunes, Airport, etc. Flash also wanted to be updated and I have heard of some different types of conflicts with this from others.
Just recently I've had a problem with CS6 where it creates a partial (tiled) image when "Edit In" from LR4 and when saving back to CS6 from HDR Efex Pro. THe image may have one or several rectangles which may be black, white, or part of the image that's in the wrong place if that makes any sense. All software is running with current updates.
I'm trying to make some book covers and get a decent emboss effect. I'm only using Photoshop Elements 7 but it does have an Emboss facility in the Stylise part of the Filters menu.
The problem is that whatever I do the embossing always comes out in white/silver when I'm trying to get black. Why the hell is that and why can't it be changed? Does anyone know how?
on creating metallic text, chrome, brushed metal, etc., but I'm wondering if anyone has come across a way to create text that approximates a nice reflective look similar to when printers use foil stamping? Every now and then I'll see magazines and print work that have those beautiful reflective colors that catch the light in ways that really catch the eye, but I'm not sure if this can be recreated in Photoshop?
Another variation I'm interested in trying to create is text that looks like it has a metallic paint, similar to the way cars are painted, so that it's subtle, but you can see little flecks and dimension.
I have been working at this for about 4 hours and I am still stuck. I am trying to create a padlock from scratch, and have had nothing but problems. Below is one I used as a reference. I created a block for the lock itself and used a gradient fill on it. I then added some filters (noise, blurr, etc.) and came up with a decent though clipart looking lock. I think with some more time I can come closer to the desired effect. My sticking point is on the metal arm. I have tried and tried to duplicate this metallic silver look, and it just looks horrible.
We've been asked to see if we can recolour the stand mixer in this image from it's silver/grey finish to a glossy black as we haven't got a sample of the product to properly photograph here.
I recently got a new computer with Windows 8, and re-installed Photoshop 5.1, Photomatix Pro, and Nik Silver. But when I go into Photoshop, I can't see Photomatix or Nik Silver. I've moved both of them to the Plug-Ins folder and then rebooted, but it doesn't seem to work.
I'm using CS2 and have taken some silver jewelry photo's for my website. I would like some advice on creating a nice crisp white background with some shadow around the the base of the item.
What is the best and most efficient method as I'm finding the silver does mingle with the white when I try and adjust the settings. The magic wand isn't much use either.
The original image had the car in a deep shadow and it appeared to be black. I played around with it and this blue was the best I could do. The real color is silver gray. Is there anyway to change the car color to silver.
I want to create a field of silver (and gold) sparkles kind of like what you'd get if you painted with a glue gun. Not surprisingly, Lots of what I've found searching involves applications of Filter > Noise, often on a cloud rendered layer with smartly chosen foreground / background colors.
But I don't like my results so much. Looks ok small. But upon closer inspection lacks shine. More like silver or gold colored sandpaper. Code:
I would like to change silver to be a gold (with magic of photoshop, I don?t need to go to the gold shop )
I enclose here two images. Original and after coloring. For the coloring, after setting the color, I change Normal mode to Hard Light mode. (I found the technique from tutorial in internet)
I am not satisfy with the result, since it looks fake (not that smooth). Is there any other way to smoothen the colorization of the image?
I downloaded the trial of PSPx4 and sadly enough the trial does not include Nik's Color Efex Pro 3 (CEP3). What I would like to see, is if the CEP3 window actually fills the screen, or if it is smaller and the user unable to "maximize" it.
