I get the spinning wheel when I try to instal this on my MAC. I have LR3 and 4, CS5 and NX2. I do not want to work in NX2 as I am not familiar with that software. I am not a tech person, had to let them go. View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried moving Nik Color Efex 3.0 out of PSPx5 Plug Ins folder into PSPx6 Plug Ins folder, but that didn't work. Tried plugging in via Preferences...File Locations...Plugins... but that didn't work either.
I installed 64 & 32 bit version per the installation instructions. Is there anyway I can install Nik Color Efex that came with x5 into x6?
Currently running Photoshop CS6 and a trial version of HDR Efex pro 2 downloaded from the official Nik website. The issue is simply this:
1. I click Merge multiple images or Merge to HDR Efex pro 2 in the file menu.
2. The program becomes unresponsive.
I can't select images, no box pops up for it. It just hangs..I can force quit with task manager and I can alt+tab to other windows, but the HDR efex 2 box and photoshop program can't be clicked, moved, or used at all. It is highly frustrating and I've reinstalled numerous times. I've also loaded up an old copy of CS5 that I had and the same thing happens.
I've recently reinstalled windows and previously CS 5 + HDR Efex worked fine, but since the reformat it now does this.
but if I order HDR Efex 2 Pro out of CS6 - anything works. Nik-Software don't really know an solution?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just got Nik's HRD Efex Pro2 and I'm having trouble with it. System is iMac running OSX 10.8.3 with 12Gb RAM. When I come back to PS CS6 from HDR Efex using either a Fuji X-E1 or Nikon D800 RAW file, the effect is properly rendered but there is a big black (or sometimes white) box somewhere on the image. Once this happens, all subsequent images loaded have the same or similar defects and the only way to get rid of it is to shut down PS and restart.
When I save the file despite the apparent defect and then look at it in LR4, the saved image is fine so it appears to have something to do with how PS is rendering the image on screen. I called Nik and they said it was a memory problem (a leak) in PS CS 5 and 6. I suppose that is predictable. Nik suggested reducing the size of the available RAM (I'm now at 56% down from 69% which is in the "ideal" range) and changing my Drawing Mode from "advanced" to "basic". Didn't work.
I'm having problems with Silver Efex Pro 2 after upgrading to PS CS6, worked fine in older versions of PS..Downloaded the latest installer from Nik Software..The installer only find my Lightroom 4.1 when installing, and I have to add CS6 manually (locating the plugin folder, also tried other folders).It works fine in LR4.1, but in PS, the software opens, I apply changes, and clik OK, NIK closes, but nothing happens to my image. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had a problem with the Nik Software Silver Efex Pro (SEP) plugin running extremely slowly, but only at certain times. It's been pretty good for the past few months, but it suddenly took a nose-dive a few days ago. It takes ages to load the presets and to process the image in Photoshop once I have made my selections in SEP. I just thought that as SEP is a direct plugin to CS6 Photoshop then perhaps it's something to do with the way Photoshop itself runs. I switched the running of Photoshop to 'Run as administrator' (just right click the program in the start menu and go to compatibility tab) and SEP now runs extremely fast. why running as Admin should make such a difference? Are there any problems in running in Admin mode?
I run Norton Internet Security, and thought that as I'm now OK in Admin mode it might be a virus-checker problem, and running in Admin mode was getting around the problem. I do have both versions of Photoshop (32 and 64 bit) included to 'allow' access in Norton.Here is my system config. My PC runs very well in all other respects.

I have been using Nik HDR Efex Pro2 with Photoshop CS6 successfully for over a year on my aging MAC Pro and OS 10.6.8.Now all of a sudden HDR Efex Pro 2 crashes Photoshop as soon as I launch it.
Nik suggests my GPU is out of date but how could it be fine one day and out of date the next. To make sure I ran an update on the MAC OS software. (I cannot upgrade beyond 10.6.8 because some of my software won't be compatible.) I also tried their suggested replacing the .cfg code in the Nik HDR preference folder. In addition I did an update on CS6 and uninstalled and reinstalled HDR Efex Pro2.
During the time it went from working to not working I might have allowed the recommended updates such as iTunes, Airport, etc. Flash also wanted to be updated and I have heard of some different types of conflicts with this from others.
I have loaded NIK Silver Efex Pro onto CS6. The plug in shows up in PS CS6 as normal, however when I have an image up and go plug ins and click on Silver Effex Pro 2 i get a notice saying that this programme has crashed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust recently I've had a problem with CS6 where it creates a partial (tiled) image when "Edit In" from LR4 and when saving back to CS6 from HDR Efex Pro. THe image may have one or several rectangles which may be black, white, or part of the image that's in the wrong place if that makes any sense. All software is running with current updates.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPreviously, my LR5 worked seamlessly with both the most current versions of Photomatix Pro and HDR Efex Pro 2. Then neither program worked. Photomatix would accept images from LR5 would process them sometimes but wouldn't send them back to LR5. Sometimes Photomatix would allert me that some of the exported images had the same data - not true. Sometimes 2+,1+, 0, 2- & 1- brackets were interpreted as having a 3+ image. With the Nik software I'd get messages like "Launching external application failed" or "The command 'HDR Efex Pro 2' is not currently available. I contacted Google and we determined that the Nik software worked when opened in Photoshop CS5. It appears that LR5 may be the culprit. I uninstalled and reinstalled LR5. Nothing changed. The Photomatix and Efex Pro 2 plugins reappeared without me doing anything so I wasn't sure I got a clean reinstall.

I just bought Silver Efex pro 2 after uninstalling a pirated version my sister downloaded. When I try to edit a photo in Silver Efex 2 through Lightroom 4 a box comes up and says unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to lower (string expected, got nil). I am not good with computers.
Also is there any way to restore factory defaults all throughout Lightroom. Maybe doing that and reinstalling Silver Efex would work? Even when I deleted the pirated version of Silver Efex the Silver Efex still showed up in the Edit In box. I need to get that one to go away so the new Silver Efex will appear in Edit in box I guess.
Is there a way to apply a color to selected objects without having to search for the color in the color palette. So say if I am working with an image that has multiple colors but want to use only one of the colors in that image, is there a way to apply it without having to create or add it to the palette.

I want to sample color from an original Photoshop image, and create an Encore menu color set, so that my menu buttons, etc. are colored to match the main photo image in the menu. Is there an eyedropper kind of tool in Encore that would let me sample the color from the image, and then apply that to color swatches in the Encore button layers?

I have added a Layer Mask to the new layer and I'm trying to use the Brush Tool with black forground to cover part of the new layer. I'm following an online tutorial step by step, but when I try to use the Brush Tool I get "could not use color replacement tool because it only works in full color mode". The problem:In PSE 10, when using the Eyedropper Tool or clicking on the Foreground Color or the Background Color, the Microsoft Microsoft "Color Dialogue Box" pops up instead of the "Adobe Color Picker" dialogue box. This started about a month ago. I use Windows 7.
I want the "Adobe Color Picker" to pop up (like it used to) inside PSE 10.
I have a photo of a painting that was taken with Kodak color checker patches on one corner. It looks like I need to adjust the colors in Photoshop.
I want to use the color checker as a reference to correct the overall image color and contrast. However, I don't know how to use it as I have never worked with color checker patches before.

To create a special effect (but not TOO garish!) I'd like to change this brownish meadow so that it looks much more like one of the swatches from my color swatches panel.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have alot of paper that I want to reduce & eliminate, I have a bunch of certificates, magazine/newspaper clippings that I have from high school & college to scan & would like to know what color settings would be best.
I also have a bunch of brochures, other odd papers, receipts, & handwritten notes.
I am using an Epson perfection photo 4490 flatbed scanner, on a mac running lion 10.7.5.
I would also like to know what would be the best resolution to use.
I read a little about bit depth, & from what I gather, the human eye can only see so many colors, & going with bigger color depths is good where one has to do alot of editing.
most of these items are for records & archives, & maybe to be able to print from the scans, so I can throw out some of my paper.Also, when I scan in Adobe RGB, would it be best to use 48 bit depth to go with the fuller color? & when I use sRGB use 24 bit depth?
if you look at the image attached the colours on the right are what the color picker is displaying and if I use that hex code thats the colour the web page displays, but if i fill in any element the colours circled on the left are shown in photoshop.
Why is the color picker window showing a different color to the whats displayed?
I'm assuming this problem I'm having stems from having color-calibrated monitors, but let me know if I'm wrong!
To preface, this is the setup I have:
Windows 73 monitors as follows, all have individual color profiles calibrated using the Spyder 3Cintiq 12WX Dell U2410Dell 2409WFPPhotoshop CS6 - Proofed with Monitor RGB, and tested with color-managed and non-color-managed documents . I usually do most of my work on the Cintiq 12WX, but pull the Photoshop window to my main monitor to do large previews and some corrections. I noticed that the color picker wouldn't pick colors consistently depending on the monitor the Photoshop window is on.

Main Question
I know the Cintiq's video capture makes the picture look more saturated than the Dell's, but it actually looks fine physically, which is okay. But notice how the Cintiq's colour picker doesn't pick a matching colour. It was actually happening the opposite way for a while (Dell was off, Cintiq was fine), but it magically swapped while I was trying to figure out what was going on.
Semi-related Question regarding Color Management
Color management has always been the elephant-in-the-room for me when I first tried to calibrate my monitors with a Spyder colourimeter years ago. My monitors looked great, but Photoshop's colors became unpredictable and I decided to abandon the idea of calibrating my monitors for years until recently. I decided to give it another chance and follow some tutorials and articles in an attempt to keep my colors consistent across Photoshop and web browsers, at least. I've been proofing against monitor color and exporting for web without an attached profile to keep pictures looking good on web browsers. However, pictures exported as such will look horrible when uploaded to Facebook. Uploading pictures with an attached color profile makes it look good on Facebook. This has forced me to export 2 versions of a picture, one with an attached color profile and one without, each time I want to share it across different platform. Is there no way to fix this issue?
Pictures viewed in Windows Photo Viewer are also off-color, but I think that's because it's not color managed... but that's a lesser concern.
