Lightroom :: After 3.6 Update Canon CR2 Files Are No Longer Auto Associated With Program
Nov 18, 2012
So I just downloaded and ran the updates for lightroom 3 (now 3.6) and now when I open folders to view my picture files, the canon raw files are no longer associated with lightroom. Let me further explain.
After shooting, I would plug my card into a card reader and see which pictures I wanted to view in lightroom. I shoot in jpeg and raw so I could view the jpeg thumbnails to see which raw files I wanted to open in lightroom. The raw files would be "labeled" with the LR icon and I would then doulbe click the raw file I wanted and by doing so it would initiate the opeing of LR. However, now the raw files do not have the LR icon assocaited with the raw files and I can longer clcik the raw files to automatically open lightroom.
This is for .MXF files shot on a Canon XF300. Things were working fine, but suddenly I am unable to open those mxf files in AE CS6. Even projects previously created with AE CS6 now won't open, and give me the 'file damaged or unsupported' error message in AE. The file locations are identical. I've found workarounds, but they fall a very long way short of the convenience of using Dynamic Link from the Premiere Pro CS6 timeline. There are lots of hits if you Google, but most go back a version or two, or suggest converting the MXF clips to an AE friendly format.
Whenever he starts Photoshop up, all of his auto recovery files open. For example - when he goes to open a psd of a web design, he will get about 25 files opening with the title "JobName recovered".
I had a meander around the forums looking for possible fixes and information about the Auto Recovery feature, but so far have not been able to cure this ailment.
I have previously disabled the Auto Recovery feature as well as deleting the auto recovery files, yet this was only had a band-aid to amuptation effect. The auto recovery files have reappeared and are now opening again upon start up.
After running 4.3 update, my local adjsutment brushes are no longer recognized and appearing in the Lightroom GUI. They are all still located under 'Lightroom' folder --> 'Local Adjustment Brushes' folder (nothing has changed and I see all files are still there in Finder), but no matter how many times I've restarted LR, they are not showing up in the GUI.
When exporting images LR no longer recognizes my hard drive or external hard drive, only sees the desk top icon. I tried a new catalog and an old catalog and still the same.
A few days ago I updated Lightroom to version 4.3. Since then, the "auto save to xmp" doesn't work. It is checked, but I keep finding files that "have been changed recently". So not only that it's not auto-saving them, but it is also finding "new images" that "have been recently changed" even though I didn't open or edited them in the past several months..
I'm using LR 4.3 on Windows 7, 64-bit. It seems to work pretty well in Library and Develop and such, so I don't think there's a performance issue...
When I do a synchronize on a folder (may be 500 files or as few as 20), new files don't show up to be imported. I can look at the folder and SEE the file. It's there. But, it's NOT in the library grid. Synchronize does NOT see the file. If I do an import (separate from Synchronize), the file usually shows up. The file I can't see in the library shows up in the list with a checkmark, so it KNOWS it's not been imported. At that point, I can go ahead and tell LR to add them and it's fine.
ALSO, when I add a keyword to a new file, it doesn't show up when I open the files for that keyword. For example, I take a .dng file edit it, then finish in Photoshop. Saving the file in Photoshop gets it back to LR. I can see it in the files in Develop. I can see it in the Library grid. But it ISN'T in the keyword set. Even if I ADD the keyword AGAIN, it STILL doesn't show up in the files for that keyword. If I shut down Lightroom and restart it, THEN the file shows up in the keyword set. Is there some "auto-update" setting I've messed up?
This is the error message I get when I try to upload my raw files into LR4 from my Canon 5D MarkIII:
"The files are from a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in LR. (7)
ex file # 5B9A0008.CR2
I recently upgraded from a 5D classic to the MarkIII. Jpeg's upload fine. I've googled, looked in the manual, searched for LR update and nothing has worked.
LR4 has a longstanding bug where it can no longer edit RAW files in Photoshop CS6.
Most (including me) appear to be using a work-around where a copy is made of the Photoshop CS6 executable and slightly renaming it. this is then plugged into LR4 as a third-party editor. A far from convenient or professional affair!
Why does the Adobe Labs ADOBE RAW beta not update RAW in LR4 but only CS6?
Following previous LR upgrades (3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6), old files were automatically removed from the Program Files folder. However, I just upgrades from 3.6 to 4.0 and notice that the old files are still on my hard drive in the 3.6 folder. Do I need to keep these files or can I UNINSTALL LR 3.6?
i have been able to import and move a file of jpegs but as I shoot jpeg/raw combo, the raw files were left behind in the original file. I can now bring them up, but they are dim and cannot appear to do anything w/them. I would like to move them to the file where I put the accompanying jpegs, but am having no success in finding an answer on how to do this. Nothing seems to activite to let me do this. Along w/this, I generally tend to work straight from camera raw files, the jpegs are generally not used, thus when LR encourages me to work on the jpegs, I'm not interested. I wish to process my raw files and only move to PS6 if I need to do some more intensive work.
So I found the ad on Adobe that said that the 6D was supported in Lightroom 4.3, and the Lightroom page said that it would work on OSX 10.6.8. So I bought it.
Upon installing it, I find that it cannot see (does not show) 6D RAW files when IMPORT is pressed. It shows JPEGS if I have them in the camera, and it knows the camera is there in the import dialog -- shows its name -- but no RAW files.
I checked for updates to Lightroom 4.3, it says there are none, I'm "up to date."
DPP sees the RAW files fine and imports them. So the USB connection, etc., is working.
I'm sure I'm missing something, and I really need RAW files, not JPEGs.
I use a fully registered Lightroom 5.3 with my Canon 5D Mark III, and I have this kind of corruption on some of my CR2 files from times to times. If i reimport the .cr2 file in another catalog or even on another the resulting file is still corrupted.
The wierdest thing is that the original import was successful and I successfully exported it several times correctly. The corruption should have happens afterward:
This is absolutely inacceptable from a professional software.
PS: I had this kind of curruption with an old version of Lightroom with my previous pentax K7d, but I though this was past
When I try to import my raw files to lightroom 5 and convert to DNG i get a message that says: "Could not copy files to requested location." and "Files could not be written" I tried converting the files to dng using Adobe DNG converter then importing them to lightroom but they still won't work. Photoshop CS6 and Camera Raw both read the files fine. I just prefer to use Lightroom.
Importing .cr2 files from a Canon 60d into Lightroom 4, or any other version of LR? I've been trying for quite a while, and while the video files show up for import, the raw files do not. 0 files listed. I'm simply trying to use the Import button in the Library, and selecting the 60d camera from the list while it is USB connected to my machine.
Details:
Lightroom version: 4.0 [814577] (Adobe Camera Raw 7 installed also) Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition
Also have the entire Adobe Master Collection CS5 installed (and fully updated as of this AM). Memory card was formatted in the camera itself. Canon's DPP has no trouble importing the files via the EOS Utility, and I see the camera/SD card in Windows Explorer as a drive letter, so I know it's recognized.
I have LR 4.2 installed. I just tried to import my 5D MK III images for the first time and is gave me a camera not recognized (409) error. From what I can see the 5 MK III was supposed to be supported from 4.1 on. Did the tether fix in 4.2 break the native image support? If not, have 4.2 installed that does recognize MK III files (within the past week)? I ran the update check and it reported that I had the latest version installed and no updates were available.
I am having trouble importing RAW CR2 files from Canon 5D and 7D into Lightroom.
Some / half of the files will import from the memory card, but at some point in the import process I get an error message that reads "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read" . Then I am unable to import the remaining files at all.
I'm running Lightroom 5 on OSX 10.8.
I have been getting this problem for the past 6 weeks. Usually If I shut down Lightroom, restart computer and begin the imprt process again, this second import will work fine. I put it down as a bug that wasn't a big deal, because after 2 or 3 import attempts everything would be OK.
But now Lightroom won't import my final 130 images at all. So far I have
- deleted the Lightrom preference file (it didn't work) - tried different USB ports, cables and card readers (it didn't work) - checked my permissions on the destination folder and disk, and confirmed that they are "Read and Write"
I don't think the files are the problem as I have been able to import 400 of the 600 RAW files from the memory card so far.
I have attempted to both import and convert to DNG RAW files from a CF card with images taken on a brand new Canon D5 Mark III. None of the images can be imported and an attempt to install the current version of Adobe Camera RAW plug-in also failed. The error message reads "The following files were not imported because they cannot be read. (3)".
Update: I've now tried to import files from a newly-formatted SD card and am having the same problem.
For some reason today it just stopped paying the audio from my Nikon D300S video files. I tried importing a new file but that won't play either and I reloaded the program and that won't work either. I know the audio is that as it will play in Windows.
Suddenly I can no longer sort JPG and RAW files together by capture date. I have two Canon SLR's shooting in RAW and one Canon point an shoot shooting in JPG and want to collate the photos in LR4, which I was able to do up to now. I cannot find out what I did to make this happen or correct it in LR preferences.
After sending files to Photoshop for further editing, use simple "save" command to return them to Lightroom. That used to work but now only JPEG files do round trip, not raw files (DNGs) although round tripping to Elements works fine. Photoshop is saving them to my catalogue instead.
Adobe agent spent more than an hour tinkering with my computer before giving up. Tried to blame use of DNG but this is an Adobe invention. Also said to use synchronise folder command as a work round but this restores deleted files as well. He promised to "escalate the problem" and I would be called back, but that was a week ago.
I have just tried to upload Raw files from a Canon 5d Mark III to Lightroom 3. The file were not recognised. I believe there were some update issues but my Lightroom 3 is updated. Do I need to get Lightroom 4? I need to know urgently as I have a shoot tomorrow and will go back to my Mrk II if I can't get an update for Lightroom 3.
