Lightroom :: 5 - Spot Edit Does Not Fully Remove / Cover Spot
Jan 10, 2014
I've used Lightroom 3, 4 and now 5 so I know my way around the software pretty well. Never had an issue like this in previous LR versions. Basically, when I Spot Edit a spot (such as a speck of dust that was on the sensor or lens) there is alway s a "ghost" of the speck that remains, no matter what I do. The Opacity is set to 100, yet the tool behaves as if it is set to 90. It happens with Clone and Heal. I have also tried adjusting the Feather setting, to no avail.

I've got LR4 and a bunch of photos with 3 nasty dust marks.Spot Removal does not allow to mark one of these spots (the pointer does not turn into the marking circle).Probably LR cannot see it as needing repair.

After being embarrassed by failing to check the Clone/heal tool to make sure the opacity was set correctly, I am encouraged to ask another question that was not affected by the appropriate correction that made the tool work fine under most circumstances. However, using LR4 (and previously LR 3) )iMac 27 quad) at odd intervals, certain images show up with a single white spot, usually on a blue background, that cannot be removed or cloned with the LR Clone/heal tool. It can be removed with the clone tool in PS but not in LR. I don't know where the spots come from. They sometimes show up in a sequence of 3-4 or just singly. A copy of one is attached here. I don't know if this spot is an aberation in LR or from my cameras. Since it's happened with different cameras, I presume this is some problem with LR.

I was shooting some timelapses recently and created thousands of images. I needed to "heal" one dust particle from all of those which I did by using "spot removal" tool but unfortunately it doesn't work well on all images. Now I am stuck with a problem where I have over 7K pics which has that tool applied but I can't remove it from the whole batch in one go.
I've tried syncing with an image that has no "spot removal" tool applied but it didn't work. I coppied settings and pasted them but it only works for one image. I had them all selected and just hit restart on a tool but again it only does that for currently visible pic. I really don't know how to deal with this and I don't want to do it manually with all of them. It's worth mentioning that I could reset all of the settings but I already applied many adjustements to many images so only spot tool is what I want to get rid off.
I am using a Lightroom 5.2

Video editing is not currently supported in the Develop module.
I know that I can use a develop module preset to apply an edit from a captured frame of video. Most, but not all develop module settings are availalbe via this technique. One setting that is not is "spot edit heal".
I have a small dust spot that appears in every frame of video in a blue water background shot underwater with my housed Nikon D7100. Is there a way to remove it with Lightroom?

Lightroom 4.2
Windows 7
Wacom Intuos 5
When using the Spot edit tool and my Wacom stylus it freezes lightroom for several seconds on certain files. Same file types and locations may not have the problem, but some do. Has happened on TIFs, PSDs and cR2s. The cursor disappears and will not show when placed over the LR window. I can access other windows and the cursor works fine. It does not tell me the program is not responding, but I can't do anything with it. After 30 seconds or so the cursor shows up and I can work. However, if I try to use the stylus and spot edit tool again on the same image, it will cause the cursor delay again. If I use my mouse, no delay. Sometimes it does not happen with Wacom stylus. From user stand point appears to be random which files it happens and which it doesn't.

I've been using Photoshop 6.x with my Intuos 5 for almost a year and it's been great. I recently purchased Lightroom 5.2 only to discover that when I use the spot edit tool that it freezes when i use this tool as a brush. It starts off smooth, but after brushing across my area i want to clone/heal, Lightroom seems to freeze up, and the spot edit tool is unusable. I can lift my pen off the tablet and a few seconds later Lightroom comes back, but the tablet is basically unusable to me. The mouse works perfectly fine.

All other edits I make in LR5 carry over to PS when I use the "Edit In" to move the PS to do additional edits, except edits that I made with the spot removal brush.

TI go over my photo and remove dust specs in LR5, then choose to edit the image further in Photoshop CS5 (Right click or Cmd+E -> Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5). When the photo opens in Photoshop all the Spot Removals I have done are *gone*! I can not say I have noticed this before, and I have been using LR5 since it became available. But now nothing works - It keeps doing this, no matter how many times I close PS and LR and re-open. Spot Removal just keeps getting reset when I wanna edit a photo in Photoshop.
I shot a video of it, which can be viewed or downloaded here
I'm on an iMac 2013, OS X 10.8.4.

With both tools, I can make a few changes and then both will leave a black brush spot. It works, and then it is like the program is too challenged & it just leaves a black spot. Sometimes if I move my mouse to the history panel to back up to get rid of the black spot I get a swipe of the tool all across the image when I'm reaching with the mouse to go back in history.
I'm using PSE 11 and a Macbook Pro.

I have placed a photoshop file in illustrator CS, the file contains a spot channel transparency that I want to print as a pantone plate. When I print separations my spot channel prints as a shade of grey. Several other vector items (generated in illustrator) using the same pantone print as a solid 100% black. I'm worried that my file will print with the transparency part of my pantone as a shade of its self when I send the files to the printer.

I'm still working on changing a document I didn't create. It needs to be CMYK, but I keep getting error messages when I save it that there is a spot color. I saw one spot color in the Swatches (at least I seem to remember that's what the little dot in the corner means) and I double clicked it and changed it to CMYK. And I selected the one item that seems to have that color and I changed it to the CMYK version. But the swatch still has the corner dot and I still get the error message when I save.

Everytime I make a sphere, even if I restart illustrator and make a new document, I get that ugly dark spot in my image. I don't know what the heck it is. I've tried everything I could think of to get rid of it, but I can't seem to.
The way I made the shere was by taking an elipse, making it into a perfect circle and then using the scissor tool to make it into a half-circle, then using the Effect>3D>Revolve Menu option to generate a sphere.

Tried to remove some cables from an image using Russel Brown's video making use of the pen tool/path and the spot healing brush with content aware. I'm pretty sure I followed his tutorial exactly but it did not work satisfactorily. Are there any other tweaks I should be using to remove these cables and replace them with the background details?

I have a problem with Lightroom (=LR). When i use "the spot removal tool", there is only one circle, around the spot i want to remove. The other spot, that use to show the clean area that the tool is sampling from, does not come up.
When i left-click on the mouse, LR remove the spot, but i do not have any influance on where LR samples the clean area from.
I have just updated LR from version 4.2 to 4.3, but as far as i remember, the problem was there before i updated.
I use Windows 7, 64 bit version on my PC.

I just started using the image retouching options - spot removal to be specific. (In my defense, I've read instructions, youtubed and googled till I'm blue - So, I click on the Spot Remover tool, then click on the target and drag to the spot I want to "heal" from. As long as I'm holding down the mouse button, I can see the intended result. But as soon as I release the mouse button, it reverts to the original blemish.

Yesterday I installed LR5 on my desktop and when I went to use the visualize spot tool it was missing. After trying to find the problem, also trying to figure out how to get a hold of Adobe support, I decided to uninstall LR5 and, naturally re-installed it but I still had the same problem. I decided to install LR5 on my laptop and, lo and behold, there was the spot visualization tool. Lightroom does not run well there, it barely a half step above a net book. But the difference between the upgrades is this: on the desk top the upgrade was from LR4.4 while on the laptop the upgrade was fr LR3.6.

Just upgraded to Lightroom 5. Hadn't used 4 in awhile, but I don't remember ever having this issue in 4.
I am working on multiple images where there are dust spots in the exact same locations, so I am using the heal brush on one, and applying the results to multiple images by syncing "Spot Removal". Sometimes it works, and other times I am left with a strange mark that looks more like a brush stroke. The "Spot Removal" sync is not working.
The images are extremely similar, so the original heal brush (and the chosen source spots) should work fine on all images - that is not the issue. I am syncing hundreds of images at the same time - don't know if that is part of the problem, however I can sync just 2 images that are right next to each othe - sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't.
May go back and try Lightroom 4 again, as I see lot's of issues with Lightroom 5 on forums.
