LR 5.3 ask every time which catalog should be used. I select standard and all work fine. I select the catalog also at LR 5.3 Settings but if I quit LR and start again, LR ask the catalog question again.

My catalog 3 did not transfer to catalog 4. I tried to manually transfer files. Now I have as many as eight copies of some pictures, none of others.

I'd be very interested in any system that you might use. We, at one time, used printed booklets for the engineers, but got to be a hassle when details changed. I have setup smart collection to show all images that need to be saved to disk - "Metadata status has been changed". I did the update in smart collection and also in Library folder. On the disk xmp-file seems to be changed but in LR Metadata status is still "Has been changed". The files are CR2-files.After command status was one second "Up to date" but changed very soon "Has been changed". Metada Date was changed OK. Same happend with tif-files but not with jpg-files. All changes are in the sidecar file.
I have a large library and one day i wanted to make sure that none of the files were corupt so I thought of an idea to export my entire library to see if i get a notification if any of my files didn't export. I could then check on those files to see whats wrong. But trying to export that many images caused lightroom to crash so I exported by year instead. Some years were fine, but others like 2011 for example, out of 13906 images, only 9824 exported. I would be ok with that if lightroom notified me which images didn't export. Normaly, when i try to export images that are ofline, lightroom will tell me which ones didn't export and say that they can't be found. How am i supposed to find those 4000 images that didn't export if i don't know what there file names are? I tried exporting the previews as a catalog and all 13906 exported fine. I updated my dng previews and I even genereated new standard sized previews as well. I also ckecked for missing images under Library/Find Missing Photos, and there were none missing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI imported a large group of images from last October and 14 of them had virtual copies created from them, mainly the final copies of images I was using. When imported into a new catalog I created in Lightroom 4 beta, only the raw files came over, not the virtual copies. I do notice that they have all been updated to the 2012 process and I did not tell it to do that. I need to remove and reimport them? This could be a big problem for me as I really like to use Virtual Copies.

I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
I will be managing a small portion of a client's overall image workflow by updating their web prescence on a regular basis with new work and retagging/uploading old work. I believe this requires the catalog and the image library to be housed on an external hard drive that can travel between the two of us. We are both working on PC's with LR 5.3.
The workflow would look something like this:
Client downloads new images onto external hard drive and imports into LR "ClientCatalog" is created Flags Picks and Creates a Collection from those Picks.Hard drive is handed off to me where I open "ClientCatalog".Make suggested edits to images add detailed tags and metadata upload to various social media sites and websites return hard drive to client
Is there potential problem with this workflow? My assumption is that if everything is housed on the external hard drive then there are no worries about the catalog containing all the latest updates. Are there any "safety protocols" you would add in to this workflow (besides mirroring everythign on another hard drive)?

I'm using Lightroom 1. I tried to merge catalogs by importing a catalog into a master catalog, but there were some problems. The one I noticed immediately was that the collections are not correct. It imported the collections, but for example one collection now has only 4 photos when the originbal had 140? How can I fix that? (Although not necessariy a problem, it seems to have the wrong number of photos imported too. It says the previous import was 3175 photos when it was more like 10,000.)

I still have the catalog on a backup disk and have just installed and updated to LR 4.4. What is the best way to merge the V3 catalog with V4 and are there any things I should expect or look out for?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI shot an event for a couple (a reception) and I didn't have my gray card so I set my Canon 5D mkII on auto white balance (shooting with a Canon 24-70 2.8 and a Sigma 85 1.4). As you'll see from the two example photos - the shots taken in the venue lobby looked fine, but the shots from inside the event itself were amazingly saturated. The room had a ton of very bright uplighting in purple and pink - the shots looked fine in the viewfinder, but once I brought them into LR4, there was a nearly complete purple/pink cast over everything. Setting the white balance in LR to auto, tungsten, flourescent - nothing worked. Adjusting the temp sliders - only slightly better. Reducing vibrance and saturation useful a little more, but I'm really having a hard time finding a fix!
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo you know what system I have, I use a laptop running Windows 7 64bit, with a dual core processor and 4GB RAM. It's a very capable machine and I don't usually have a problem using LR on it.
After installing LR 3.3 over 3.2 I experienced a problem whereby the PC would not recognise which program to use for opening the lrcat catalog files. Using the Default Programs option in Control Panel didn't work as Windows wouldn't accept Lightroom as the default program and kept suggesting I open the catalog using Adobe Reader instead.
I seem to remember having an issue with the 3.2 update as well but that was simply the icon for file type being missing (showing a default unknown file type icon).
Anyway, resolved the problem but had to resort to downloading a program called Default Programs Editor (http:[url]...... to correct the problem. Am thinking next upgrade, I will uninstall LR completely before installing the update, just to be sure.
i have an 8 giga LR4 catalog (about 300000 images).just installed the new LR5 and tried openning the LR4 cat in LR 5.it said it needs to upgrade, but in the middle of the prosses i had this messege: "lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of LR"
i saw that there is an option to export all my LR4 catalog as a new catalog and than import it into LR5.i haven't tried that yet since i'm worry that i might loose some info. will this process (of exporting and importing) keep all my LR settings? like develop user presets, keywords and collections?

When I do this I loose part of the image because i need about 20mm all the way round to mount. A solution is to create a border which I can apply to all images. I do this at the moment in PS CS5 manually.
Is there an automated way to do this in LR3 via the presets so that a standard 20mm border is applied to any image irrelevant of size or orientation

I have a very modest system, Win 7 64 bit Home premium, Processor 6.6 GHz; Memory 4GB; Displaty 1680x1050.Test on export of 101 raw files from Panasonic G3 Lightroom time for rendering 15 Min approx 9 seconds per file.Export from After Shot Pro Approx 3 Min 1.87 sec per file.Both systems using only standard processing functions no Lens corrections, adjustment brush etc. just standard corrections.Just unbeliavable. I did not think I have an issue with the performance of Lghtroom but this is a revelation. I have no hangups or crashes etc.

I normally import as standard previews because this improves speed whilst working on them. I have just ticked the smart preview box for a couple of files that I thought I might want to work on after transferring them to my externsl drive and it crashed when set with standard, OK with minimal, I am now wondering if in fact the smart previews are the previews it works on and that by setting it to standard as well it has confused the program and that is why it crashed, but then why have the option of both or is it simply a computer resources issue trying to create both standard and smart previews.

When you click on it, the last whole word erroneously becomes highlighted --I expect the cursor to be positioned at the pointer so that I can add or insert text. Instead my first keystroke erases the last entry! Additionally, the undo/redo keys (ctrl Z/Y) are non-functional. Applies to at least the last few versions.

The 'brush defenition' turns back to 'basic' and the 'variable width profile' back to 'uniform'. It would save me a lot of time if I could change those standard settings into what I prefer.
