Lightroom :: 3 - Creating And Managing Own Picture Database

Currently using Capture NX and looking for somthing little more featured. LR3 and Capture NX2 are on my list. I like Capture NX becuase I am one who likes to be in fulll control of my picture management. I download my NEFS to a folder, convert to JPEG and save them in another folder and then transfer the jpegs to manually created folders on a NAS. Will LR3 control me by creating and maaging it's own picture database or do I have the ability to manage pictures like I'm currently doing?
I've been using LR for 18 months or so now, and do pretty well with it. But my organization, I think, is lacking. I'm not sure when I would want to start a new catalog, or why. It seems to be a pain to go from one catalog to another, just to access different folders of pics that I've worked on in LR. I now have dozens of folders that I can access in my current catalog, and I'm wondering if it's getting to be too many. I shoot lots of events, from weddings to dance performances, so many of my folders might have 1,000 images or more.
Are there any links to information or instructional videos that really explain the organizational process of LR? What I've seen so far gets me started in LR. It hasn't really explained how long you can stay in one catalog, or how many pictures can be in there, before LR's performance starts tailing off. I am a member of Kelby Training, NAPP, and I use a Mac Pro on a SSD, 32 gigs of RAM, so I should have plenty of comp power. Not really facing doggish problems right now, but just curious about LR's optimal organization.
Not sure if this is a LR or CS6 issue. When CS6 finishes editing, it sends a virtual copy back to LR4 - I now have 2 copies of the photo. How do I then get the newly edited version to be the main photo in all collections etc - does this have to be done manually i.e. remove the original and replace with the copy
It started happening whenever I try to "create a new local surveydata base" in Civil 3d. After clicking OK the folder for the database gets created, but does not show up in the toolspace window. It does show up in windows explorer in the place which I had specified on the pc. I have just installed Civil3d 2014 on my pc and I still have Civil 3d 2012 on it as well. I get the same problem from each version.
I want to programatically create a text style in the current database based on a font located in the AutoCAD /fonts folder. After that, I want to assign that text style to a newly created DBText.
I am close but can't quite get it. Let's see what I have:

I get key not found error. Do i have to lock the document?
I am working on the AutoCAD customization and doing the same by VB.Net & C#.Net. But I just want to know the difference as mentioned below:

There are many statments are there to insert only 1 block..Like Start Transaction, Lock the document, Get the Object Id Block etc...So my quetion is that when I have to use DataBase services and when not
what is the advantage of doing customization using DataBase services rather than go for wihout DataBase services.?
After importing 48 photos into a large collection, 46,000+ photos, and reviewing in the Library module, LR 3.6 crashed and reported a database error. It suggested repairing the database, but could not. The next window suggested an Adobe Technote, but the link was broken. I have a Dell Dimension E510, w/ 4 GB RAM, Pentium D 2.8 GHz, reporting 3.62 RAM and running XP Pro, Version 2002, SP3. All my HDDs have at least 80 GB of free space w/ the one I was working on with 464 GB of free space.
Last week one of my Lightroom databases had a size of 400MB. After I installed some new hardware components last weekend I continued to work in that same database and three days later the size had increased up to 800MB. I didn't import any new images. I just worked on several files, added some Adjustment Brushes and created 1:1 previews for a small part of the images in this catalog.
What is causing this increase in file size? Which info is actually stored inside these lrcat-files? What about the History, where is that info stored? Can I create a new catalog from scratch and keep the settings and changes, using Export as Catalog?
Where in the SQLite database is the "Title" field? I have analyzed the database structure (after linking a copy of the LRCAT to MS-Access via ODBC), and found practically all fields of interest. I even managed to convert the shutter speed and aperture data (which are logarithmic) to useful values. But I did not find the "Title" field in the DB. I found that any entry made into "Title" is written into the picture file's EXIF data but I cannot believe that LR uses that as the only storage for the picture title.
Note: I do not use the database link to change any data in the LR database. I use this only to more effective browse through the picture data
PS: If the Title field is not currently in the LRCAT database I would suggest to add it. It does not make sense in my opinion to have 99% of the picture data inside LR, and rely on the picture file's EXIF data for one or two items.
I create all sorts of DVD case inserts using Photoshop CS3 and MediaFace 5.0 (which blessedly imports PSD files directly!).
However, occasionally (for advertising purposes) I would love to create a "3D" version of the insert (i.e., with the front cover, the spine, and the back cover showing "realistically") from the flat "2D" version I've created...
Is this possible within PS CS3, or a combination of PS, Illustrator, etc.?!?!
how I could create one of those images that uses hundreds of images to create one image using the colors in each picture to take the color of the area it is representing in the big picture. I know there is a word for this type of picture, but can't think of it.
I have a lot of photos in files and events in iPoto and Aperture. Would like to conso;idate all my photos inLightroom Master Photo file with those files and events as folders.
I have Photshop CS4. I create a picture with a specific size in Photoshop (eample: 8.5" x 11"). I send it to the printer. In the printer box it also shows the correct print size. However when it prints it is only a small sample of the picture. An 8.5' x 11" picture from Photoshop, showing that size in the Image box and in the Photoshop print box, when sent to the printer shows at the correct size and prints it at 2-3/4" x 3-1/2". If i save the picture from Photoshop onto my desktop, then open it in Microsogt Office Picture Manager, then send it to the exact same printer, it is printed out at the correct size. I don't know why it will not print it to the correct size from Photoshop.
I have 4 pictures of the Disney World Park logos (castle, MGM, Epcot, and animal Kingdom). What I want to try and do is merge all the photos into one photo that I can then print on T shirts for our family trip (18 people). I want each picture to be visible, but sort of merge into the other, like a collage I guess.
I'm going on vacation and want to work on adding keywords, deleting unwanted pictures, and other organizing. s there a way to do this without copying all my pictures (not enough room on the laptop for that.). Lightroom 4.4
1. Elements 11 Organizer often creates multiple copies of the same picture. How can I stop this?
2. Many pictures has a small questionmark in the upper left corner, stating that the file is missing, even though I can see the picture (a bit blurred, but still). What's wrong?
I use simple set of iLogic rules to manage product configuration through the assembly LOD. Assembly is really simple not more then 30-50 parts. Still I manage to crush Inventor fairly often. Some days 5 and more crashes! Several times sent crash report to AutoDesk for no joy. Never got any feedback.
I am just getting an impression that Inventor does not like LOD manipulated with iLogic for some or the other reason.
I am having trouble managing a PDF underlay once I have inserted it into my drawing. If I move either the underlay file or the dwg file, it loses the reference cannot find a way to update the path. A co-worker with 2011 LT can manage his underlays using the external reference manager. My Xref manager does not display the PDF underlays in the list of references, so I can't use that tool to update the file path. I have also tried manually changing the file path in the properties box, but that doesn't work either. It is a locked value and I cannot select it to edit.
I have tried inserting a pdf underlay with all three (Full Path, Relative Path, and No Path) path types, and still nothing shows up in the Xref manager.Is there some setting turned off somewhere? I cannot find an Xref Manager options, display options, etc.
I draw using different colors for the different layers I use & I am trying to print drawings using a plot file that I can manage my line weights and shades. In my plot dialog box I used to get a drop down w/ the different choices of plot files (for different clients) but that drop down no longer shows up in my plot dialog box.
I also checked the plot style table search paths in the options window and those paths show do not exist. I created the path as shown but to no avail.
I have Acad 2011 and Excel 2010 on my computer. What I would like to do is to create a list of materials in my autocad that will update from an excel table. The only problem is my Acad Table needs only some materials from that large spread sheet. For example when I write in my Acad table a piece number(col A) I would like to have a description coming automatic from excel (in col.b).
There will be hundreds of drawings with tables taking data from the same excel table.
I created two PDF's from identical files in Illustrator CS6 using spot colors but the colors came out different when printed although I couldn't find any apparent differences in the settings of the two documents.
I also noticed that when importing an eps file that contains spot colors in Indesign CS6, and export as PDF the colors in the PDF are sensibly different to the eps. It never happened with CS4.
Recently I was working on an A1 size sheet and exported it from Indesign as a jpg file. The settings were as follows
Output as CMYK Resolution - 300dpi
The final image was huge! - a staggering 73 mb file.
On the other hand if I would have done the same work on photoshop with same resolution, then the image would have come at maximum of 20mb filesize.
I know settings for pdf exports, but for jpg exports, the settings are too less [as far as I have observed]. So, what is the solution to keep filesize minimum with best quality [in my case 300dpi]
