InDesign :: Save Dialog Box In Vista Types Over File Name?

When I save from InDesign (and only InDesign), I open the folder I need to save my file in. I begin to type the name of the company folder that this file needs to be saved in (there are hundreds). I am only able to type the first letter of the company before it begins typing over my file name. This has turned out to be a major annoyance for me and my coworkers because we may have 40 or 50 folders that start with "s" so we can only type in "s" and then have to stop and scroll through and read each folder instead of typing in the name of the folder we need and hitting enter.

Photoshop just becomes unresponsive until I use alt+f4 to close the invisible option dialogue. As a result, I'm currently unable to do things like open PDF files or save JPEGs.

How to I simplify the list of file types in the Save-As file type list? I use less than six file types. I have no need for most of these. It would be nice to have my top 5 and then the ability to go off-menu if needed for others.

I'm using the file dialog snippet as the foundation for a save as dialog box for saving a new copy of my template assembly to a project folder. Is there a way to disable the ability to click on a file in the window which puts that filename in the input box? The assembly file name is standardized and pre-"calculated" by my code and its a decent hassle if you accidentally click another file because the user would either have to rewrite the file name by hand, or cancel out of the dialog box and re-navigate to the project folder.

I have a camera with a path constraint. It seems I cannot access the key info dialog to set the correct interpolation for the curve. I have done this in the past many times but this is the 1st time I have done any animation in 2011. Am I missing something? When I right click on the timeline or in the curve editor the dialog box for the key types dosent appear ?
I have tried setting the path constraint controller to active and also tried with the bezier controller active.

I have to artwork three types of menus for a small restaurant chain. These menus have the same dishes and same background but different prices per restaurant. I will be sending three high res PDFs to print and would like to know if there is a way of doing this without creating three versions of the menues. I know I could create layers and have a layer per restaurant with the text boxes on, turning off and on as I create my PDFs for print but can I have text within the text block that I can turn on and off? Two text blocks, one with prices and one without, is not an option becaues the text all needs to run round together. The reason for this is if a dish needs to be amended it only has to be done once to the master dish.

I used to be able to save as and browse to the file where I want to sane or open a file
Now I get a dialog box where I can only save to the default location or manually enter the path and file name
Same with opening a file - I go file open and it is gives a path to the last file I used. There is option to browse - how I get this back to the normal function of open/save by browsing?

I have the following function that opens the File "Save As" dialog box. It gets fed a drawing number and allows the users to browse to a folder where they want to save it. The problem is when a file already exists with the same name. A message box pops up letting the user know that the file already exists and do they want to overwrite it. The can pick yes to overwrite, but it doesn't really overwrite the old file, it seems like it opens it and then crashes when the rest of the program tries to run.
What I want to do is create a loop to determine if the file already exists. If it does not exist, then save the path and drawing name as usual.
If the drawing exists, I want to pop up a dialog giving two options; Overwrite, or Rename the current drawing. If they pick Overwrite, I can have the program delete the old existing drawing and then just save this one. If they pick Rename it will loop back to the "Save As" dialog giving the user the ability to change their drawing name (like add a "-1" to it.

I am just trying to save a PDF from my illustrator file. However, when I go to Save as, and select PDF, no dialog box opens to allow me to set how I want the file outputted. IF I just hit enter, the file does save.. its just like the Dialog box is hidden or not appearing. The reason I need the dialog box is because I need to add bleeds to the PDF and my default save doesn't do that.

how to modify the options in the save dialog?Every time I save a file and have to choose the file type, I have to scroll through obscure and obsolete file types. Sure, I might need someday to save Scitex CT, or Photoshop DCS, but the chances are very slim. Some people surely use PIXAR and TARGA, but I don't. What the hell is an IFF? If I ever need a Portable Bit Map (really?) file it would be great if I could find it in a user defineable option pull down. I can pretty well guarantee that the file types I need are PSD, TIFF, JPEG, PDF, PNG and once in a blue moon, GIF.

I am unable to get this code to launch the File Save As Command. I Think I have the sytax correct, because if I Replace "AppFileSaveAsCmd" with a different command name (i.e. "AppFileNewCmd") it works as expected. I have tried this with "AppFileSaveCmd" and "AppFileSaveCopyAsCmd" and both have also failed. It seems any kind of save command wont work... I am trying to creat a rule that will fire on "New Document" iTrigger that will Force a user to save the newly created assembly document in preperation for further iLogic rules that depent on the assembly Filename and path. I'd like to use an "NPT" Hole Dialog thread but it doesn't show up in the Thread type list.But it does show up in the Thread Dialog/Specifications Tab/ Thread type list so it's available.
I definitely have "NPT" in my Thread.xls & I have my Options/Files set to point to the correct Design Data folder.

Since upgrading to InDesign CC I have noticed that all print progress dialog boxes stay on top of all windows, even after switching apps. I find this highly annoying and want it to go away. Is there a preference I can change to make it NOT be on top, especially when I've switched to a different application?

I am trying to import thousands of pictures into Lightroom as I have a mess of pictures do to a long story...But basically I have probably 30,000 pictures in a bunch of folders that I want to import.
One issue I have found is that I don't want to import TIFF, BMP, GIF, or things like PNG. I really only want jpg files or jpeg files unless I stumble across others in another format I haven't found yet.
Can I set something during the import? I have searched the forums and internet, but haven't found anything that mentions this.
How to clean up a mess like this where I have 30,000 pictures but probably only need 10,000 as there are duplicates upon duplicates due to having to move the pictures around in a hurry as I had a mess in my basement during a storm a couple years ago.

Original file was generated in Adobe InDesign CS6 as (16) 8.5" x 11" - exported this to high res print ready PDF. I need to manually paginate this 16 page document to 11" x 17" printer spreads so I can set up addressing with XMPie.Placed PDFs into InDesign CC (vsn 9.2) on (8) 11" x 17" sheets - saved as a new file name but it won't save - it looks like it's processing for a minute, then just stops and doesn't save.
Made an 8 page 11" x 17" template without placing the PDF and saved it - and it saved successfully. Once I place the PDFs - and try to save or save as - it does the same thing, processes for a moment before stopping and not successfully saving (the * is still next to the name at the top of the document bar, and if I close it asks me if I want to save changes.)I'm on a Mac, OS/X 10.8.5, I've restarted the machine, and tried again and ended up with the same issue.

3ds Max seems to only alow .ies, .cibse and .ltli files as photometric file types - missing out on a huge swath of files - Eulumdat (.ldt) files, a standard used in Europe.
I understand that Autodesk is an American company and .ies is the most common format there, but a good chunk of my work here in the UK uses Eurpoean fixtures and there is a large number of .ldt files floating around.
I have got a conversion programme, I personally use OxyTech's Lightstar 4d, but really it's very irritating to have to manually convert dozens of different .ldt files so I can use them in 3ds Max.
Is there a plug-in/script/something so I can import .ldt easier?

With Photoshop CS 6 the desktop does not recognize me and allows me to assign the correspondence file. For example, if I double click on a .psd file nothing happens. If I reconnect the program Photoshop to psd file manually, does not recognize it (as if I had not made the selection). While Adobe Photoshop CS6 Bridge point for each matching file, the associates, but when I do a Bridge by double-clicking it, I go into Photoshop without opening the file.
This means that I can no longer be Indesign edit a file with a simple click, but I have to go find the file at all times and I can only find it in Photoshop with a huge waste of time!

I have installed Photoshop CS2 as a part of the Video Production Suite. I am having difficulty associating my image file types to PS CS2. Windows defaults to its image viewer and will not change in the Folder Options in Windows. How can I do this within Photoshop? When I installed from the DVDs I was not presented with the File Association Window, as the the Help file indicates.

For some odd reason, when I choose a different file format in Photoshop CS3, the extension does not change, and I have to manually enter this in. I don't recall having to do this before.
I have a mac as well but it doesnt seem to have this problem.

I'm using a student version of AIP 2012 and am having a problem exporting to .STL file types.
When using a "Standard(mm).ipt" and designing the part in mm, upon export it shrinks the dimensions down.
For example, the width of my sketch is 193mm, upon inspection on a different computer with VCarve Pro and CUT3D were 19mm.
I don't want to dimension the parts as to make the problems in export to the right size because I think that defeats the universal aspects of autodesk.

I'm using LR to manage and inventory over 40K digital and scanned photos (JPG, TIF). I use the keywords/tags to categorize and search for relevant photos.
I'm also an amateur geneaologist and am scanning thousands of historical documents primarily as PDF files (and JPG/TIF). And I have a huge library of digital videos (primarily MPEG4, MPEG2, MOV, and AVI) that I would like to inventory and categorize/tag.
Of course, I'm not expecting LR to be able to edit the documents and videos, but it would be great to be able to import them into LR's database so I can search for content.
